Bush vs Kerry. Flip side of the same coin -- just how it's been forever. No one likes it, but it's been successful so far.

I did mean prison, not jail for having public cameras trained on you. So I totally screwed that response up. I agree with you -- it shouldn't happen in jail.

I looked up Robert Alton Harris and couldn't find the bit about him "sentencing" another guy in jail, but it did occur in jail. If I had time, I'd research one of the books about him and quote the page.

I agree with your points, but there's something you missed -- these are jail cameras, not prison cameras. These are being used during booking and holding (ie, jail), not during incarceration (ie, prison). You're not likely to be ass-raped while in a holding cell in a jail.

Not true. I believe it was Robert Alton Harris, who got the death penalty in California, raped an inmate at the Sacramento jail. Harris held a trial in jail, convicted the other jailbird of being a sissy for only having forged checks, and punished him.

I'm not positive it was Harris, I've read plenty of death sentence stories and some of the names get mixed up.

I say if you're in jail, you've lost your rights and should be on camera.

If someone swiped your laptop and you reported "forced" instead of "picked" the cops won't care. They don't check, and they'd have to be pretty pissed at you personally to try to charge you with perjury when it was forced, not picked. Unless they think you're trying some sort of insurance fraud scheme. And with that any perjury charges would be on the side.

You said you RTFA. It says the bombs' not armed. Some random guy found the bomb and offered to bring it back up without the Navy coming by and saying "get lost". What's to stop someone else from finding it?

The Navy does a great job keeping out foreign vessels. There's hardly any drugs brought in that way.

I think the panicked people in Georgia have a right be be panicky about a nuke sitting in the nearby ocean. They're not worried about the Russians learning anything from it. They're worried about bomb grade uranium ready for the taking. The feds need to spend the money and bring it back up.

Did you read the article he cited? I'm sure you can't trust the goverment on this (they've said 11 missing bombs and 4 missing bombs), but it appears they were looking in the wrong spot.

Some guy wondering about the bomb, hired some salvagers and found it. It wasn't under guard from the Navy. The feds said it wasn't worth retrieving -- it'd cost $5 million. The guy offered to pick it up for $900,000 and the feds said no.

So if you want a cheap h-bomb with bomb grade uranium, you can pick it up for $900,000. It'd make a good starting bid on eBay.

I didn't mean Euro vs. US dollar as far as currency conversion for the price of oil. I've read about US dollars being fiat currency and how countries might start switching to Euros. The fear was US dollars would start coming back to the US causing inflation. Examples given were Venezuala and Iraq. They switched, and it was working for them until recent problems arose. Just curious what you think about the US dollar being fiat currency.

Thanks for answering my questions by the way.

Could you explain how a company producing 2% of the world oil could increase the price of oil so much?

I'm sure if say, Rolling Rock quit making beer it wouldn't change the prices of beer. Not sure what percent RR makes of beer production, just using it as an example.

And another thing, do the Russian oil companies trade in American dollars or Euros? I've read the story about Iraq and Venezuala being ignored when they used the dollar, but problems arose as they switched to trading in Euros. I don't know much about world economics, as if my prior post about Yukos didn't prove that to you.

Bad example that the article starts out with (typical media crap that makes the kid seem like it's just a high school prank). It starts with a story about an kid brandishing a BB gun to rob people. He robbed an off-duty cop with it so the cop's partner shot & killed the kid. There's better examples of cops killing people with fake guns later in the article. But that first kid had to know if the gun looks real enough to rob someone, that someone might think it was a real enough to shoot him over.

There's pictures of the geek's gun in the Wired article, and it looks pretty sci-fi. Not even as "intimidating" as a paint ball gun. If someone got shot over that gun, it'd be an overreaction. Although right or wrong, the geek would still be shot. If he goes out with it, he'd attract less possible fatal attraction in a Star Wars costume. He might get beat up by some jocks, but the cops wouldn't shoot him.
