I am doing something decent about it. I'm refreshing our memories of what happened, just by bringing it up.
Nevermind the fact that the US is full of crap lately with their "war on terrorism", but let's look at why mankind is so intent on killing each other on our only planet.
The real question is this: "Where did the material come from in the first place?"
If this is legit material, than perhaps the movie industry should worry more about security than howling after the fact.
It's been said countless times, that the internet as broadcast medium could do far more positive things for the movie industry than harmful, if handled correctly. We all know how dense the people at the top are though...
I don't know what is more tragic. The fact that someone has the balls to smuggle this out, or the fact that the movie industry is too stupid to not capitilize on a medium that obviously their fans use daily.
... in an analog form, they cannot be copied infinitely...
Ever heard of a tape recorder?
Besides which, how useful are the statistics after the season is over? (Yes, I know about long term statistical analysis, thanx).
I should say, rather, "how relevant to the immediate timeframe" are the statistics, if posted in digital/analog form?
Big deal... It's no different than purchasing a book on baseball statistics, and then broadcasting/posting a stream/website about said material, and telling the public how good a particular team has been.
Big deal... When in a hundred years we look back at this silly topic, we will certainly laugh at all of our ineptitude.
Besides, can you reply with a nickname, or are you too scared to reveal yourself online?
I'm so sick of these bloody corporations dictating what is proper to be posted for PUBLIC consumption.
What is stopping someone from simply making a website that lists statistics, player info, and so on, but changing the relevant information in such a way that there is no hint of MLB, or NFL, or any other sports logo anywhere?
What I'm getting at is this... a translator website that simply lists the information, as neutral as it can, without directly stating or "infringing" on their copyrights.
Not that it matters anyhow.. Why can't someone just put up a website on a non-US server?
What is wrong with posting information, plain information.. pure and simple???

As for ISP's doing this. Not anytime soon. As someone has already pointed out, keeping 20+ gigs of TEXT logs is more than just a pain. It's also a pretty sisable amount of data to sift through once you -do- obtain it.
This so much reminds me of the Napster documents that were handed to them by that group that collected the 300,000+ names who were violating the law. (in their view.)
Speaking as a Canadian, I just can not see this coming to pass.
And yes, I do plan to write them, after first reading up on the issue.
Totally indespensible when you have a tough coding problem, and need instant coding help.
I rely on many friends from the BeOS Community to help me out, and I in turn do the same for others.
It's what makes us a very friendly bunch, to be sure.
I only wish there were more features in Ozone, but it's open source now... perhaps someone from the linux community will help us poor souls out?
(hint hint... nudge nudge... there's free chocolate in it for anyone up to the task... honest!;)
Seriously though... the entire muscle/beshare system is TONS better than anything I've ever used elsewhere when it comes to just working, and connecting with a real community, instead of faceless creatues sucking your bandwidth to get the latest Britney. (ugh)
Using an operating system these days, by their very nature, has become a very complicated issue, whether people wish to believe this or not.
It's not just about the apps, or how stable something is, or even if it provdies feature XYZ.
It's this: "Does it do what you need it to do right now?"
For me, my answer is a resounding YES. I surf the web, I check my email, I collect various types of media. BeOS handles all of this and more, without getting in my way.
I do go to windoze from time to time, but only to play the occasional game.
Someone once said, and it's been repeated often enough, that it bears mentioning, "Use the right tool for the job."
For me, using my computer under BeOS is a joy. It provides the 95% functionality that I need at the moment, with enough future growth that I'm assured it will fill out the other 5% in time.
Back to your main point.
These days, using a computer is also using an operating system, and it's own quirks and shortcomings. You can not use a computer -without- learning/using the OS. (For the most part.) Which is why I really love using my computer under BeOS. It makes everything I do uncomplicated.
I won't go into the technical features, because I'm trying to stick to Reverius's main point, namely how I feel.
This is how I feel. Anyone else feel the same way, please speak up.
They bought the Intellectual Property that Be Inc. owned, along with the contractual obligations to 50 employees, some of whom are among the best engineers in the business.
I admit, that the future of BeOS may not look bright to some people who are not in the know, but I am involved with the group that is heading up the report requested by Palm Inc., and happen to think very highly of Palm Inc.'s response thus far.
They have been communicative, forthright, and friendly in dealing with the BeOS Community. In turn, we have sought out contact with other friendly companies in our efforts to create a future for BeOS.
There is however, an effort underway by the Open Be Developer Network, http://www.obedn.com to create a parallel, replacement of BeOS, that over time will drop in new kits.
But as for BeOS itself being open sourced, I very highly doubt that.
There is also another effort to show Palm Inc. that the BeOS Community is serious about creating a future for BeOS.
Such an intelligent post too, and a monday!
I have a personal pet peeve against people that post anonymously.
I am doing something decent about it. I'm refreshing our memories of what happened, just by bringing it up.
Nevermind the fact that the US is full of crap lately with their "war on terrorism", but let's look at why mankind is so intent on killing each other on our only planet.
Now.. why is it you choose to post as AC?
hmmmm?

Geez...
/. decides to make the headline THAT!??!
With only 9 days left before the first anniversary of that "day", and
I thought it was something completely different, until I read the actual story submission.
hrm... both areas of "play" use wooden instruments to make their point.
Using a nickname is slightly more public, imho.
For instance, anyone can look up my nickname and note what affiliations I belong to, etc.
Want to know more? I moved to the netherlands from Canada 6 months ago, am an IT guy, am into BeOS, and love computers.

And this means what, exactly?
Did the sites in question go up to the MLB headquarters with a gun, demand money from the corporation, and walk away rich?
No.
The sites were making a "profit" in order to continue the existance of the site that was for the fans of baseball.
People seem to forget that the overall goal of the sites was to provide information for the public.
Until the become the next ebay and start selling rare 1940's baseballs, I say they should be left alone. That is of course just my opinion...
Tell me how they own the information that comprises a game score?
Radio stations do not pay a fee to announce game scores as part of their news program, neither do TV.
However.. MLB pays THEM to advertise the game highlights, and other related information, when they need exposure.
I'm so sick of these bloody corporations dictating what is proper to be posted for PUBLIC consumption.

Rant over. Flame away you slashturds.
Geez.
At least get the abbreviation CORRECT.

I just love long, thoughtful posts.

They really make my day.
My only question is this; Why are you replying to Beryllium in your subject, but attaching the post to MY reply to him?
What exactly is your problem today?
I use it daily from work.
