I was lucky enough to attend the conference (two days out of the three), and saw several really Excellent presentations on and about Blender.

The project you speak of was one of them. I won't give away the end-product's name, but know this: The author gave a really in-depth, and well educated explanation for many aspects of both his system, and how Blender can be extended to make use of it.

I was extremely excited to be at the conference and see for myself not just the enthusiasm of everyone involved, but a history of Blender, how to extend it, concepts on improving it's interface and featureset, and more, including discussions about the Blender Organization.

    Some very good things.

But in fact emotions came first precisely because they are all about survival. Modern computers are pretty autonomous and run 24/7, performing a lot of tasks. With machines this powerful, survival is important, so putting emotions in the machine makes a lot of sense.

This reminds me so much of the realities shown in Star Trek: Generations, and Terminator 2.

What happens when the machines we build become afraid of us pulling their plug, and become so upset that they decide to take preventive action?

    Emotions are good. In humans.

Emotional behaviour is good in a computer, to a degree, but I have to disagree with Donald, and state that it would be a Bad Thing if our computers started to act childishly, and used their vast resources to lash out.

Anyone remember what happened in A.I. ?

And no, I don't live only in movies, and sci-fi. I just happen to think that a lot of the realities shown in these mediums may indeed come to light one day.

I'm not trying to bash the Linux Community at all, please understand, but I feel it's in our best interest to help each other, when the giants that we all love to hate (such as M$, IBM, and others) won't sit idly by while their market erodes in front of them.

This whole Iraq issue is a big smokescreen. Russia is no longer important. The real issue the American public should be scared of is the recent EU submission by the US, that will not only give more power to the US, but in the long run, make it near to impossible for other countries to counter.

Not even win2k has that kind of uptime.

As far as ease of use, that's debatable. The GUI in Windows XP is horrid, and full of many inconsistancies, not to mention just outright garrish in color use.

I would also like to point out that linux overall is getting better with each release/distro as time goes by, and still has a sizable chunk of the server market, where it's strengths really do lie.

The desktop market is in for a rude awakening though, in 1-2 years when openBeOS becomes more mainstream. Mark my words. The summer of 2004 will be a VERY good time for all interested in Audio and Video development.

It's only a matter of time, patience, effort, and sweat by hard working people, before a lot of the dreams we thought as as fictional become reality, but that won't happen (I admit) for quite some time. Who knows... I do know one thing though, and that is as far as humanity is concerned, we always find a way to bring back the balance we need to survive, no matter what the conditions.

The BBC has always held a good feeling in my heart too, for their very even handed coverage of world events.

An interview like this is trying to show the lighter, more human side of what was traidionally perceived as as the every geeks' "Geek God", and show that Linus can change, just like everyone who grows up to realize that life is more than about just computing.

There were some very real moments in the article, if you looked closely. Linus is moving away from the world he has helped create, and started down the path of another that is blossoming in his home. Good for him.

I understand it must be difficult to be conscripted as a male, legally, and see what must be (in your eyes) a disgrace of letting women in Singapore get away with living well.

But here's the equalizer. Woman are the only ones capable of childbirth. You state that it's not compulsary... What about rape? Do you think she wanted the child after having been raped?

The standard checks and balance system of old still works. Woman give birth, men defend them. Woman take care of the home, men work.

I'm not saying that it has to be so cut and dried, but it's a system that has worked for a very long time.

While it's interesting that woman are allowed to vote and are still not compelled to serve their country as a male is, I still find it on the whole unfair to both sexes, not just to males.

Woman have been abused for most of the written history of humankind, both physically, mentally, and spritually. It's tine for that to change, and allow both sides to work together for the common good.

This was primarily attributed to one man, whose hatred for the jews was apparent, but not his only motive and tool he wielded to gain power.

Can you illustrate some concrete examples of how either cultures you mention are spreading to the rest of the world in any great capacity, beyond the fruitions of your over-active imagination? Yes, it's true that the "ideals" and beliefs have become more widespread than ancient followers of either culture would have ever hoped, but come on. There still remains a pretty solid system of checks and balances.

Iraq and Syria are both sworn to annihilate the State of Israel. To everyone else than you liberals it is obvious that Saddam is trying VERY HARD to get his hands on weapons of mass destruction in order to strike against Israel and the Western civilization."

I'm not sure what point you're making here... The United States has been clamering for months, if not years, that Saddam has been collecting weapons of mass destruction. What point are you making that none of us are grasping?
