1.) Windows 2000 is in beta. Expect bugs, lots of them.
I Expect bugs in non-beta MS product, lots of them. so what.
2.) Windows 2000 in my experience is far superior to anything previously released by Microsoft.
Are you talking about the beta copy you were just defending? You know the one with lots of bugs. It sounds like bugs make a product far superior by these two statements you have just made. Now I can see how people from different camps think differently, on the Linux side less bugs means superior and on the MS side more bugs means superior, interesting...
One could say NT is a much richer web-serving platform.
I don't know One personally but all I can say is that he is severly misled. I'm sure One is a smart guy but he's really got to try out Apache/PHP before saying things like that.
Microsoft isn't evil, Bill Gates isn't the devil.
Not true! Bill Gates is the devil! You can kinda see the horns in some of the pictures, but you must look very very closely.
They're a business, they're out to make money, that's what businesses do, this is America, this is where it happens.
Seems like you haven't heard that there are laws on how you can make money. You can't sell drugs, kiddie porn, children etc. in America. There are laws to protect the general public from BadThings. MS does BadThings while trying to stay legal. For example, forcing people to use IE by using its OS market dominance. This is like Norco forcing its distibutors to sell a Norco water bottle with every bike that is sold. The distributors are strictly insctructed that no other water bottle is allowed to be sold with Norco bikes other than Norco water bottles starting now. This is a BadThing.
Ya ok, you got me. Damn! after being Windows free for 3 years, you would figure that all that MS terminology would have disapeared.
Hey, I don't want any of that "script kiddy" stuff flying my way. I'm surrounded by hundreds of mindless Windows users bashing away at me all day, the last thing I need is one of my own kind insulting me.
But I'll take the "iconify" hit you Anonymous Coward!
I think that the 3D enviroment where you go through rooms to get to your apps is not such a Good Idea, but since all the buttons and widgets on your screen are 3D look alikes, why not use some of the 3D video card capabilites to draw the widgets. This way you can place the light source where ever you would like on your desktop and the button, scrollbar, widget... etc would be highlighted and shadowed in real time.
This kind of enviroment would allow for much more interesting themes. Themes that would include the capability of surfaces and transparency in widgets and allow for types of lighting like sun light or incadescent. You can even have some real shadowing when moving the windows around on your desktop.
Hey while we're at it, why not throw in some physics, so that when you minimize a window, the icon could bounce on the bottom or your screen as if it were made of a selected material. Or have gravity in a desired direction.
The computer you speak of is dead and died years ago and I accept that. But the people with the capability of creating the legendary Amiga are alive and creating like they did years ago.
Microsoft is strong today because of creative ideas, the ones they purchase from creative people and companies. As long as good ideas are up for sale, Microsoft will prevail.
But times are different now. Ideas aren't for sale under the GPL, the're free. And this is why Microsoft and all other companies who depend on other people for great ideas, will lose. The GPL drains Microsoft's source of life and they know it.
Don't dismiss a group of people with great ideas just yet, look at what is happening with Linux.
Microsoft posted a comparison on their site that showed how Linux is more expensive than NT when you include hardware into the formula. The formula MS used included OS, http server and hardware costs. But they forgot a few things...
If a company is ready to spend $60,000 on a web server/Internet gateway, they would also like to have firewall and traffic shapping capabilites. These features are much more expensive than the OS and could cost up to $60,000 alone.
Put that in the formula and see who ends up winning the games of value.

Sure that explains how Linux lost in the multi-cpu tests but what about losing the single cpu test. What is the cause of that?
It's been done but I can't remember the site's name. If you look around you'll find it. I'm to lazy to do it for you right now :\
It saves me a trip to my friends house and most of all it saves me from installing (God forbid) Windows on my hard drive.
Quicktax is a great program that works great in the Wine enviroment.
In the contrary, it is very useful.
