I mean, I was following you and agreeing with you until THAT: "and this is exactly the kind of thing that went on in Germany in the 20s & 30s, and disturbingly more and more of it is going on in America today"
Needless to say, Godwin, you lose, and no kidding, if you actually KNEW something about history you would avoid making that kind of ridiculous statement.
Breaking up a monopoly like Microsoft, a "socialist" move? Shee, go visit a socialist country, it's full of monopolies. Monopolies work AGAINST the capitalistic free market.
Is the New York Times a good journal? Does it represent good journalism? Now have you ever read it? NOW tell me honestly, aren't they have a certain opinion bias?
Well, it turned out that the Japanese adopted a crappy analog standard and the US digital HDTV standard is probably going to win out in the marketplace after all.
What US digital HDTV standard? You mean, something like DirecTV? Trivia: who designed this. Eh eh eh.
There is no monopolies on wireless in Europe. In fact, in most country, that's the first part of the telecom industry that got freed from government monopoly. In France alone we have 3 GSM providers, and going to have a dozen wireless loop operators.
Starcraft as a solo game is crap. I mean, it's not even worth mentioning. HOWEVER, as a networked game, it's probably one of the best available today. It's *perfectly* balanced, it's fast paced yet requires strategy, and after having played for a few years you still wonder how some people are so much better than you (no, it's not trainer they don't help *that* much).
You can discuss at length analogies (I love those...) between speech and singing and T-shirts and protected speech... However, the really funny part of this is.. what's the exact wording in the DMCA? What is *exactly* forbidden? A "device... used to circumvent"? Now, someone's got to tell me how a t-shirt, a photograph of the code, a GIF file with the code embedded in it or whatever you can think of is a fucking "device" which has no other commercial purpose than circumventing a fucking copy protection scheme? It's not even a "device", it can't be used to circumvent anything, it's just a fucking T-Shirt / photo / gif.
(Now I'd like to see that subpoena, is it a real one or just a publicity stunt?)
Ah ah indeed, you're so right. You know what would be the only way for them to actually ENFORCE their secure bullshit? That would be to make the songs playable only closed, proprietary devices... that means no PC playback. Hey, remember how DVD was cracked, back in the days (oups, that was last year). So in their little dream land, those guys are fantasizing about a secure digital future where everybody will be nice and play their little Britney Spears songs on the little secure device. A bit like the Chinese version of the Internet.
Huh? What? But it says.... Nope, it says that Congress shall not abridge the freedom of speech. This doesn't say "You have the right to free speech", it says Congress shall not abridge whatever rights and privileges to free speech you may have
Huh? What? Are you stoopid or sumthin? Ok, I'll spell it out for you: there is nothing that give copyright holders "rights"... nothing but laws written by the congress, which "shall not..."
Is that simple enough for you?

My point is, you *should* know what Slashdot's editorial line is, it's not like it's a surprise it's been the same for years now. So don't act like a spooked virgin, keep in mind the fact that Slashdot is pro-free software and against the IP industry, and adjust as needed.
Ah come on, everybody knows that real doctors and nurses never swear. "Doctor, the patient just had a copulating hear attack!" "Excrement, we have to do something about it! Give me the sanguinolent electric shock!" "Doctor, it's intercoursing broken! " "Shame on it, who the non heaven broke it? Call me that penetrating intern!"
Well now it's clear, they don't look alike at all: the Mac cube resembles a washing machine, while the Cobalt Qube may pass for a table top refrigerator. Case closed.
All those communists in the McCarthy era got what was coming to them.
They were undermining the stability of the state, a charge that most Westerners greatly underestimate the importance of.
Whaouh, and you don't even seem to be trolling on purpose. What are you going to reveal us next, that the Protocol was not a hoax, and that jews are planning to take over the world RSN?
True, theese people were charged for the wrong thing, but those were trying times for the American nation, and unruly groups causing chaos and unrest were the last thing it needed.
Oh dear, most of those guys were sooo dangerous. Duh.
I just read this in Scientific American: after the conquistadors colonized Florida, and converted/enslaved local indians, said indians started suffering from various nutrition problems caused by their forced change of diet, from a mostly proteinic diet (hunting, sea products) to a vegetarian diet (mostly corn). In particular, their ancestors used to have fairly good teeth, but they started having rotten teeth because they would'nt eat meat that would counteract bacterias in their mouth.
Oh man! Thanks for the link, it's awesome, I'm posting from it now, and it's absolutely SLICK. Great job!
... will DosEmu be ported to Win ME?
At the WTO, there was a huge amount of damage done to property
That sure is some great justification for the physical harm done.
One broken window => one broken arm
One sprayed wall => pepper gas sprayed in the eyes
Cool! Welcome back to the Middle Age (or worse)
Why is there so many gun freaks on slashdot ... I mean you CAN'T all be trolls. Gun freaks are scary. Glad I don't meet any of you IRL.

The community should not tolerate further hijacking of Linux by ESR any more.
There is no fucking "community". So who cares anyway?

Analogies are like when you try to spread jam on toilet paper.

Interesting ... it seems that even fascists can't always be wrong ;

What are you smoking? Maple syrup flavored crack?
AS usual, "they have every right, since they got the money, and you always have the choice not to use their product [you can go live in a cave"
