Who cares what the fucking EULA says? I'm French, et je m'entrave queudale. Ashram ist aus Österreich, und er spricht keine English. Et voila. It's Verant's fault. They just had to provide a legible agreement. "Agree", "Agree", ça veut dire quoi?
Except in the US, thanks to the infamous DMCA, the EULA are a worthless piece of shit. Most of them are illegal. Case in point, Verant's license agreement for Everquest *IS* illegal in France. It prevents me from reselling the game... illegal. It does'nt respect privacy laws... it's illegal and they risk up to 3 years in jail. AND ON TOP OF THAT IT'S FUCKING WRITTEN IN ENGLISH. Guess what, I'd be surprise that any French court let them enforce it... mwaaah ah ah ah.
Under French law (and I believe, EU law as well), it is illegal to artifically tie 2 separate products for sale, because it's detrimental to competition. You just can't say: you can only buy product B if you buy product A. Of course, you can give discounts in that case, but I guess it has to remain within reason.
It can be easily argued that the software package you buy in a shop, and the network service provided by Verant/Sony are two separate products. Hell, they are billed separately, sold separately, and the person who buys A (the box) might not be the same as the one who buys B (the network service).
I might be wrong, but it seems that the HackersQuest guys are actually european. If that's the case, good luck suing them... since you should know that the European Union explicitly allows reverse engineering for interoperability purposes... which is precisely what this emulator is about. And not only do they allow it, but they also are very likely to sue a company who would try to prevent it for anticompetitive behavior.
It's also interesting to notice that to play Everquest, you have to buy the package AND pay a monthly fee... this might fall under forced bundling rules if they don't allow people to buy the product without paying the subscription....
Come on blameless, you know damn well the DMCA has everything to do with putting WHATEVER THE HELL THEY PLEASE IN THEIR UNNEGOCIABLE, UNAVOIDABLE END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT.

In principle (given sufficiently advanced genetic technology) it might be possible to identify and eliminate the recessive lethal alleles from the tiger gene
pool. It would then be safe for cloned animals to interbreed.
I think that, in order to determine recessive lethal genes, you need to have a sufficiently large population... currently , such genes are discovered through epidemiology... so this process would be quite impossible.
Anyway, the danger of cross breeding is to the immediate offbringing. After a few generations anyway, provided the first children don't die too early, the problem should go away.
Don't be so quick to jump on the GSM bandwagon. One of the great things about not being "standardized" over here is the competition that non-standardization brings.
That's silly. Standardization does'nt mean less competition; on the contrary. Here, in Europe, as everything is standardized on GSM, once you have own a phone you can change carriers in a pinch (though usually you have to subscribe for a whole year to a same provider who financed your phone).
Also prices are really going down FAST. Lots of competition.
If there was any need to prove that Kaplan is either dishonest or stupid, his comparison of "assassination" and DeCSS is enough to prove it. I was absolutely revolted when I read it.
The governor of Minnesotta, Jesse Ventura. Hey my ex girlfriend is from Minnesotta (now that's an interesting input, isn't it?) and from what she told me about this state, I can say that's the only positive thing to remember about it -- okay, maybe Fargo.
Are you still following me? Well my ex's girlfriend was a typical middle class american women, church bigot and shit, and she actually believed that god talked to her. I never ever talked to her! I even refused to meet her.
Libertarians don't hate the poor. In fact, Libertarians believe in a government that would ignore the poor (no social security, no fair education) to protect the wealthy (only police and justice).
I still boot in Windows to play EverCrack. I usually play UT on Linux, but since I just got a new HD, I installed it on Windows as well, and thought I would get better performance, considering some benchmarks I've seen saying that 3DFX cards are 20% faster under Windows. I have'nt noticed any speed up so far, however I've noticed MAJOR crashes, specifically my network connection gets hosed (need to reboot to reconnect) after 1 hour or something fairly regularly... something that does'nt happen under Linux. Needless to say.
The French government is not simply objecting to these items being sold to French citizens.
This is NOT about the French government. This is about a crappy jewish student union abusing the law and justice to get free publicity. Nowhere in this case did the govt intervene or comment. Some losers (UEJF) sued, the tribunal is hearing their request, there is no sentence yet, there is no govt intervention, there is not much actually yet.
The way I understand it (and I'll try and get confirmation of this as soon as I can), is that it is illegal to make a _profit_ from anything Nazi related, or to promote the Nazi party.
Not at all. It's perfectly legal to make a profit from selling non offensive Nazi-related stuff (you can sell Mein Kampf with the proper disclaimer).
It's amazing how so many people specualte and give opinion when they obviously don't know shit about the topic.
The indication I got from a lot of the reports I read is that it's not just promotion of articles relating to the Nazi Party but the exhibition, display or sale of any items relating to Nazism.
Then you understand it wrong. Look, this trial is stupid enough in itself, you don't have to add your own to it.
UEJF is the Jewish students Union sueing Yahoo, BTW, for the sole purpose of getting free prime time visibility.
I've put the URL to their online forum in my.sig for quite a while. Quite a few people came there to challenge their action. Interestingly, there was initially no official response from the Union, only from a few young jews who INITIALLY supported the UEJF's action. Initially...
Initially because those lamers, instead of responding to the issues raised, started deleting posts! That's right, they started censoring. No wonder. Anyway, those who used to supported started turning around and are now flaming them. Interesting!
Even more interesting is that the guy officially in charge of the forum started posting, and he has quite a short temper, and he publically made a fool of himself.
Also, if you read amongst the flames, what you see on the part of those fine people, is actually some kind of perverted racism. They refer to non-jews with the term "goy" in a rather derogatory way shall I say.
Those people are just ridiculous. And please keep in mind who the enemy is here. On every french speaking newsgroup, NOBODY supports them.
The most stupid politicofeminazilycorrectly stupid transformation was Ombudsperson instead of Ombudsman (sp?). Or what about this one: shero instead of hero... duh.
I should add that it is next to impossible still now to find the Linux version in stores in France (and in the rest of Europe as well probably), and was completely impossible a few months ago.
I believe the Samba team mostly reverse engineered the SMB protocol, which was'nt properly documented.

Uber You is a prank. Just a prank. Really. Looks like YHBT. HAND!
I'm talking about European law, btw.
Sony did'nt make the game. Verant made the game, and got bought by Sony.

Well, Fargo, the movie. It takes place in Minnesotta, doesn't it?
Oups it's actually her mother that talked to god.

Wanted to buy Q3, could'nt find the Linux version, found UT, bought it, forgot about Quake. 'nuff said.

ERR, maybe on a different planet, in a different galaxy, but there's not such thing that I'm aware of.
