On my $30 bill with SprintPCS, there are about $7 in taxes. Most of them are local taxes. What I don't like is paying for portable phone numbers if I don't intend to move my number.
For some of the people that post at/., a 2 foot vertical jump would be beyond their capabilities. Prying themselves out of the chair in front of their computer would be enough work so that they would have to rest for a while.
Open your eyes! Ad placement is done all the time in movies, it's usually subtle so that you don't really notice it. But I'm sure that on some subconsious level you do.
2001 A Space Odyssey had AT&T, Pan Am, and several other ad placements (I'd have to watch the movie again to catch them all). E.T. ate Reeses Pieces. Blade Runner had Coke displayed on the giant video billboards. The Back To The Future movies had Pepsi as the 'choice for a new generation'.
Most, is not all movies have product placement in them. You don't think that it's a coincidence that a movie character is using a certain brand of item, or consuming a certain brand of food/drink? It's just part of the business of movie making.
If you're making a movie and you're a big producer, a company will probably come to you and say 'If you feature our product in this movie, we'll give it to you free, and also give you this money (or whatever)'. It happens all the time, you can't blame the producers, it's all about the benjamins (money).
I've also been ripping my CDs (1400+) and converting them to mp3s. What I usually do is have EAC (Exact Audio Copy) rip the CD in the background while I'm doing other things (like reading slashdot). When the computer beeps, then I put another CD. After 12 or so CDs, I run LAME and encode all the songs at once. Unfortunately, a lot of my CDs aren't in the FreeCDDB, so I end up typing a lot. I gave up looking for the fastest way to get everything done, slow and steady will eventually get everything done. When I'm done, everything will be streamed over to my Diamond Rio Receiver.
I've got Cox@Home in Omaha NE and I've had no interruptions or problems so far. This is a good thing since I've only got Sprint PCS for phone service. I decided after getting a cable modem, there was no need for a regular phone line (or modem). Since I've gotten used to fast Web access for the last three years, I'd had to take a step backwards.
I suppose that why it has perpendicular recording.

When I was an E-1 (1981), my base pay was $500 a month. Then I got a whopping 10% raise to $550.
