    I just really don't want people I've met on the internet to know my real name/address/phome. I've always used real e-mail addresses, but what about my psycho ex girlfriend who is trying to find my new address and phone number? (never data a sweedish chick)

    May not be interesting to you, but I enjoyed the read.

    Why do you complain about this, when it would take less effort to close the browser?

    It's like those people that complain about things they don't like but really don't affect them. Take the old^H^H^Hpeople who complain to the FCC about Howard Stern. If they're that offended, why do they continue to list? Turn the station.

    I work in a tech support environment dealing with end users, many using AOL. The e-mails we sent out come from the same or a similar address, and all have a similar format such as opening and closing, AOL seems to 'randomly' block them. I know it's really not random, but trying to figure it out is next to impossible.

    But back in those days, the only way to get a virus was through action. Now you can be infected for inaction.

    I think a better anaology would be once all the people with AIDS die, no one will be left to spread aids.

    This worm results in a fairly quickdeath, once it's peaked and the machines infected stop booting, there is nothing left to spread it.

    That being said, if this happened to you and you didn't see the advisory, would you blame your firewall software? No, you'd call tech support who would have you reinstall Windows and all your applications from scratch, including your firewall software. A worm which kills its hosts quickly, will soon have no hosts to infect.

    I was just thinking about this, can the company be held liable for their software allowing others to basically destroy all data on the computer?

    Then I got to thinking, what about Microsoft whose os's and products who have cost millions and millions of dollars.... while some of them require user interaction, others have effectively shutdown the internet for wide areas for short periods of the time.. remember the sql one? :)

    Hot topic 2 years ago is why the information on how it has worked out is important now. I work in a company that was around two years ago but now want to take a look at those who have implemented it, to see if it was a viable long term solution...

    Over here only one person is allowed to do that, the rest of the support staff is not, and again only for sev 1 issues that affect hundreds and can't be solved in any other way, short of them shipping in a computer.

    IBM mucked around with this a long time ago, as did Compaq but it turned out to be too much trouble, and did open them up for liability if a customer claims something they did caused another problem

    We've done this for to debug issues remotely that were critical and affecting hundreds, but for the average joe-user who doesn't know how to forward ports on a firewall, even MSN remote assistance is hard to setup...
