Surprised nobody seems to have mentioned the Berkley Webcast yet. http://webcast.berkeley.edu/ It is an online collection of class videos, lectures, and course materials for a variety of subjects including computer science. Their into to CS is much easier to get into for a beginner than the MIT OpenCourseWare. http://ocw.mit.edu/index.htm
It seems to me that both Math and CS students could use some more "set theory" training. We live in a world full of information. Sorting, arranging, and reporting on that data is becoming a bigger task. Even a small business has more data than you can manually validate. You need some good database setup and understanding to make sure what you get out of it is correct.
All they need know how to do is stick soft humans with a sharp stick. We are nowhere near as tough as we think we are. We couldn't stop Chucky dolls much less Terminators.
But you get this shiny coin with a nice heft to it... err at least I think you do. All the articles have pictures of these bit coins and they look pretty hefty.
If he was only pulled over because the officer observed him using an electronic device then the driver was correct. If he was pulled over for dangerous or reckless driving while using a device then the office wrote him the wrong ticket.
Computer science is not about computers...nor is it a science. A quote that I remember is often attributed to Dijkstra: "Computer Science is no more about computers than astronomy is about telescopes. "
If I had known that years ago I might have a degree in EE rather than CS.
You load your friend you car and he promises to take care of it. You sell your car to a person not your friend. You ask your friend for the car back. He can't or won't give it back to you to deliver to the buyer.
I had a cadaver bone graft and titanium inserted into my neck. That makes me a zomborg. So either way if the machines or the zombies rise up, I'm already covered.
As a relative old timer here, let me say I rather enjoyed the article for its great detail and information. You gave what looked to be an honest account of someone with a fair amount of experience doing something new and learning from the experience. Instead of hoarding that knowledge you attempted to share it. Just wanted to let you know it is appreciated. This is exactly the thing I come to Slashdot hoping to find.
From the summary: " I have a computer science degree from Purdue and have been employed as a firmware engineer for 10+ years writing C and C++." Also from the summary: " I was thinking that a computer information technology degree would fit the bill..."
As a person who also has a BS in computer science I ask, "Do you know how to make coffee?" If so, make yourself a pot and pretend you already have a degree in making coffee for the programmers.
No, we must get a grant to study reusable cloth diapers for wild bears. They might resist at first, but with sufficient resources and some principles from attachment parenting, we could find a method to get this to work. Then all we would need is a grant to study the proper brand/supplier of these reusable diapers only to give the contract no bid to a company that dumps them in an illegal landfill in the woods.
Spoiler Alert: The Titanic sunk because it filled with water.

I will live on vegetables when they can make a turnip or some other vegetable taste like a nice juicy medium rare rib-eye steak.

That post read like a conversation gone wrong between me and my wife.

Does it smell of the orifice it was pulled out of?

Don't blame the wizards! This is clearly the fault of people who do fancy maths with an 's'.
It is a priority queue. Vegemite comes to the top first, then old rocks after.
Men enjoy sports and keeping score on the game. Women keep score on real life.
Food usually works. If not that, there is always money.
French's is American! It is the best thing ever with a good ole American hot dog!
Private property is a byproduct of government. We need the advantages of both personal freedom and organized society.
Sssshhhh... don't want that to get "Candy Crushed" for the S word.

Well that ruins it. I wanted my game to have a totally awesome secret cow level.
Did I miss the exit ramp? Soon my, relatively, low UID won't be worth selling on eBay. Just like my Spawn comic collection.
They should post a job ad to get someone to fix this place up. Wonder what job ad site they will choose?
