Where do you draw the line? Can they try cocaine? Heroin? Why not? What about alcohol? Alcohol seems to be one of the most addictive substances around.. How much alcohol damages, or simply mildly stunts, a developing brain?

I've read study after study that appears to show that social media is addictive.. Dopamine hits.. etc.. Maybe it's not unreasonable to suggest that it be limited to adults.. This is the first generation growing up with it.

And yeah, I would promote abstinence, while making condoms available. Kids having sex happens, I acknowledge that. But it has the potential to severely damage them.. Unwanted pregnancy, STDs (including HIV), etc.. Suggesting that kids shouldn't be fucking, and encouraging them to not fuck, is hardly unreasonable. What would you do? Toss him/her a box of rubbers and then say "have at it slugger"?

If you really think that telling kids they can't do something is going to make all of them crave it.. well.. I can't deal with that kind of idiocy.

Nice on on pulling pedophilia out of your ass though.... Fuck head..

You're just setting them up to get addicted to it once they're free from your control. I've always been allowed to play video games, and when I went to college, it was business as usual. Other people weren't allowed to play at all at home. Guess what they did once they were out of their parents control?

Bull... In my house we weren't allowed to have sugary cereals (Honey Smacks, Fruit Loops, etc). Once we were adults, beyond a few boxes (to see what all the fuss was about), it was a habit we kept.

You gonna make the same argument against bans on drinking alcohol or smoking weed? There are some things that children shouldn't do while they, and their brains, are still developing.. Good parenting tends to produce good children and many of the good habits we develop as children/teens last well into adulthood.

To be brutally honest, you sound like one of those weak-willed defeatists who'll cave to their children's demands because you don't have the spine to draw the line and walk it.

It's also worth mentioning that suicides aren't going to be announced to everyone, you'd never know because you didn't know the person or were in the same classes.

Why? Nobody in my entire 12 years of schooling committed suicide either. We lost a half dozen kids to illness, accidents, and one or two drunk driving fatalities (they were the passenger). But nobody killed themselves.

I live in a rural area. Maybe the pressures of life are less out here, I don't know.. But I do know that none of my peers ever hit the stress level of deciding that suicide was better than living.

I feel pity for those who live in an area where suicide is apparently so common that you cannot comprehend the idea that some places have no (or almost no) suicides among children.

There were adults who offed themselves, but even that was hyper rare.. Maybe 2 instances during my whole childhood... 1 was terminal cancer that was, apparently, very painful. The other I don't remember the reason..

The fact that you don't get why that mind-set is the problem IS THE FUCKING PROBLEM you asshole.

Believe me, if I was running things, I'd have you shot for your offensive words. You'd be dragged into the street and your stupid speech would be read to you as you were shot in the face.

  7. Okay. I'll accept that, but I think we can both agree that our lives, today, are hardly as difficult, physically, as they were 100 years ago.. Far more people today are middle class.. Because we don't have to spend the bulk of our lives laboring to eat... We've all specialized.. Maybe I'm an optimist but even really shitty jobs today are generally not as bad as trying to grow your dinner from the dirt..

  8. I'd rather they just explained to everyone how retarded sports are, so that people would stop paying money to watch men in tights/shorts throwing a ball around. I wouldn't give anyone money to play a game, would you? Why?

You go to the movies? If yes, then you're paying to watch some guy pretend to be a CIA operative... Same/Same.... I don't watch sports on TV, but I do enjoy a good live game now and then.. If it helps, think of them as actors....

  9. No matter what you do, if you work, you've already lost.

    Work doesn't get you anything.

    What pays today is popularity.

Care to explain that? I work and I have a pretty good life.. However, I don't work FOR someone. I keep the profits of my labor (minus what the government takes from me). But, that's just me.. I know plenty of people who work for others who do quite well...Your statement is dripping with anarchism and possibly socialism.... Good luck with that buddy..

  10. Here is a non political suggestion I wish I could see made reality. Make a serious part of education the understanding and interpretation of risk and probability. If people understood, beyond any doubt, that becoming a top tier star of any form was incredibly unlikely, and instead made realistic plans and _worked_ to achieve them, we would be so much better off. It would also make the average Joe far harder to manipulate.

When you figure out how to do that, I'd like to point you towards the morons buying lottery tickets :)

  11. Good thing millions of unemployed and unemployable people are never a problem for long term social stability.

Have a little more faith in the system... New jobs are created every day and humans can learn to do new things.. We're pretty adaptable..

  12. Automation has saved us from LOTS of soul crushing labor.. Maybe we've replaced it with others, but I'm not so sure... If nothing else, homemakers have been saved from LOTS of back breaking labor... Washing clothes by hand? Fuck that! I'd guess that washing machines save the average person... nope, I'm gonna say it and the feminists can go fuck themselves, it saves the average "mom" enormous amounts of time..

Sometimes I think that the easier we have it, the more items somehow become "soul crushing". Planting fields by hand.. that's hard.. Driving a tractor all day? Hard too, but certainly less hard than doing that shit manually.

Nonetheless, you haven't made a single goddamn argument why using the club of big government is better than shelling out money, when we see the money arrangement working. Your political bent is obvious.

  15. Or, maybe you shouldn't have to pay for my healthcare and vice versa. Personal responsibility... I also oppose mandatory helmet laws.. But, if you crash, with no helmet, I shouldn't have to pay for you to live as a vegetable... Crash WITH a helmet on and that's a different story..

  18. And your attitude seems to indicate this hasn't been happening for 5,000 years. Any job that can be automated will be automated. It's stupid not to automate when you can. 20. In most all situations lawyers aren't even allowed in small claims court. A filing fee is $100. No where I know of allows claims over $10k but some can be far lower, so ymmv.

That's not true in all states. CA is a state that bans lawyers from SCC, but Wisconsin (where this news took place) does not. Be careful when extending how things are where you live to other places...

It appears that WI does permit lawyers in SCC (opposite of my state which totally bans them from small claims), but one can represent one's self... It's certainly a much less formal setting than normal court.

I could not determine if this is the type of a lawsuit that could be brought in small claims though. There are only certain types permitted, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to check.

  25. No. Most intelligent people would be opposed to wars of aggression... Anyone who's opposed to all war is an idiot. They are few and far between, but there are honorable and justifiable wars. Wars of independence come to mind as an honorable reason, sometimes... France, USA, etc... Those monarchies weren't gonna just hand over power.. They had to be forced to let go.. Sometimes you don't have to go the route of the gun, but sometimes you do.. Few things are ever totally black & white.. There are shades and degrees.
