I believe that the hyperactive can also apply to the mind not necessarily the body and what the appearance is on the outside. Talking with someone in the learning center at my college they explained it to me like a desk that everything the mind is paying attention to is on. For me it's like there are many inputs from many different places all at once, and as it is possible to shove everything off the desk to pay attention to one thing like zeroing in on a video game (in my case really interesting problems that I feel I can solve whether it is a social situation, system for doing everyday tasks within the school, home, office or where ever) but if there isn't some thing to zero in on like that its like a game of trying to pay attention to a lot of things all at once trying to find patterns, links, interconnections and the like so the mind is able to bring things together from all over and put them together in some cohesive form.....when this doesn't happen the mind keeps searching
About the meds though, its really hard to say what is best overall meds can help a lot but imho trying to learn coping skills is a better way to go I was labeled LD in elementary. I received good grades anyway but had to go to the resource room and that helped a lot I think, but there was still the label when I just thought differently, its more a matter of how we teach people who learn this way as opposed to them not fitting in. In fact, I would argue that ways to teach that are very helpful for those who learn like me would be helpful to more people than just those like me. Part of the learning style was very one on one.....yeah it would cost a lot more for to have all the youth of the world learn in this fashion but the education quality going to every youth would be astounding and I believe produce a higher quality of life after the education system is done with them
also recall how sometimes *ahem* ok, lets say often, when Slashdot posts something there is a 'Slashdot affect' whatever it is that was linked to gets flooded. For ftp and http downloads this is a definite negative situation for many people who end up waiting for their turn where as with bt as long as several people have the whole thing and assuming people are at least somewhat charitable (ok, that isn't true often but let's assume) then as more people download a file the bandwidth also increases allowing more people to have access to that file...so for now bt is a pretty good thing, of course it isn't the end all be all and it does seem to get at least a few people thinking(thinking = possibility for improvement yay [insert smile here]).. Correct me if I'm off my rocker
they don't need a fully intact body as far as I can remember, that would be a very large part of the story to take out and would make no sense to do so(unless they want to keep themselves from adding on again and again)

"As it is today, woe to any newbie who wants to jump on the linux bandwagon; all they get is name calling and static when they have real problems. The overall experience can be very unpleasant."
{nods} I see this type of treatment happening to other people often(usually not coming from me ), mostly in this campus setting I'm in it has more the sound of people who know somewhat whats going on talking down to those who are having some problem problem. {offers a utopian view} wouldn't it be better if people with the knowlege instead talked these people up, often their lack of knowlege is due to an (often false) feeling that the issue at hand is something they could never handle or understand......but once someone talks with them and is able to communicate with them in terms they understand (woa concept: apply what they are good at to the problem at hand) and watch their face glow as they realize they can and do understand what is going on

and put it in the autoexec.bat so you don't even have to type it in when it boots :)
