This is all a bunch of crap. I'm not a heavy leecher, once in a while I download a movie, look at it, dump it.
Artists are people who make Art. Art is not taxable it's something people which are talented do. And people who appreciate that talent pay the Artist to keep doing what s(he) does.
All this big companies who are trying (successfully for the moment) to make a buck out of this are temporary.
They saw a way to lure people into paying them and have it going for a while.
That's all changing with the p2p networks and other new technologies that I'm sure we will have.
So MPAA exists in the US, the US law system is over used and is bound to break at some time. People are too eager to use the law where humanity must come first.
Just another temporary thing.
Other countries are not so quick to follow.
So let's not worry too much about it. Real Artists see the value of being well known, they will give their music/movies/whatever away for free and let the experiencer decide for themselves wether they think it's worth it or not.
Wether we use p2p, copy a friend's CD, go to the library or whatever, it will always be there.
And DRM is a flawed technology, just like copy protection before and region based DVDs. Let them learn from their mistakes.
They can always shape the traffic they see, that's about it. When they see ssh sessions passing they can block them if they use something like Packeteer, layer 7 filter or other traffic shaping solutions.
Fuck, my 3rd post in the last year(s), my average is going up again;)

Actually, gentoo made us switch from reiserFS to ext3.
The install of our latest servers was a bit delayed by the decision of what distro to install. Our previous servers where running mostly Debian but gentoo bit the bullet with the good interface to compiling and optimizing all binaries while still giving people a packaging system.
On my laptop I still run Suse PPC, but that was lack of time when I installed it two years ago. Next HD is laying around, so is Gentoo. Finally I will get the ease of use of Slackware and Mandrake while being able to compile everything I need without libc probs.
And while I'm posting, a lot of people said to use IE or I don't know what other browser. But nobody thought about, what if you don't have a choice as there isn't a good alternative to Netscape on Linux.
I would gladly switch to a more stable browser with CSSI and Javascript and a stable Java VM and blah blah blah but as long as there isn't one, I'm stuck. --
Well, then someone will think of running it on a standard non-blocked port like 80 or 21;)
Then they will have to enforce proxies (which is hard to do in a big university) and even then they won't block the whole range of 65k ports:)
Not that I really have anything to do with it as I have a (couple of) fulltime job. And I will be moving to Sri Lanka soon anyways where they don't have fast access to the net, grmbl!!:/
Ok we have had this discussion but let's make a point anyways.
Rapists are in prison for a couple of years, and then when they get out, they are allowed to talk to women (or men whatever they did) when they get out too. Now Kevin went to prison for cracking into some systems. What's the use of not allowing him to use a computer anymore? As I hear (read) his special skill was social enigneering, so on that grounds he shouldn't be allowed to use a phone or even talk to people???
Comon, FBI, US law system, whoever made the terrible mistake of putting him in jail without a trial, get a clue. Let him use computers and networks, it's his job! Catch him when (if) he ever does anything illegal, but not for using something I, and a lot of people are using legitimately for our job.
Actually, that's probably what's happening. M$ is trying to get a grip on the *nix market, and what's the best way to do this? Creating applications for it that everybody depends on being there.
I can see the future now, within 5 years, every *nix will be able to run M$ apps, and every admin will have to explain her/himself to IT's why they aren't using on the company's servers.
XF86 has crashed on me, even really halting my machine. Everything was stopped. Just by opening some nedstat page. OTOH that only happened once or something (well I didn't open that page anymore:P)
I could crash XF86 with switching from some SVGALIB app(like quake I in console mode) to X.
Accelerated X has its uses in the portable market but that's about it, most Graphic cards are supported under XF86 and I can't seem to find a reason to pay for something I don't have any extra benefits from. For a list of supported cards, look here.
I wonder how the Tanzanians would react to this:), why not somewhere in te alps of the rockies instead;-)
Lol, been there in June;) I think they would try to sell every bit of it. At least they would love the PR:) Now techies would have yet another reason to do the Kilimanjaro! --

Actually this sounds quite spooky:)) You can find a link to the Swedish Rhapsody here (in Real Audio).
I've been ssh'ing over tor (fascist firewall) and although it's a bit slower, it still beats the latency of a modem or *grmpf* satellite.
Couldn't that be done before?
All platforms I heard of are dual/multi bootable.
The only thing which is semi-new is running XP on a mac.
Old news
Couldn't help but expressing my opinion.

That's easy to do in gmail if you have to register a new account.
Just take whatever@gmail.com and create a filter that redirects all mail to whatever@gmail.com to your spam folder.
And then subscribe accounts in the form of whatever+bugtraq@gmail.com and whatever+optinpr0n@gmail.com.
Then the term "slashdot effect" would no longer have a meaning.
Just before I left to the movies I was reading an article linked from here about a 700 acres onion plant which was covered by wifi.
;)
Now a couple of hours later, I wanted to read more and I got the "Nothing to be seen here, please move along." page.
Why did the story dissappear?
Anyone else noticed? It had only 1 comment when I saw it.
It should be between "Vintage Computer Festival 8.0" and "Zombie Lurch".
It was linking to this story.
The government doesn't like us anymore?
thanks, saw it happening a couple of times but never bothered to find out what it was.

The menus and blocks around the content were added later.
Also, now with the css and stuff there are gradients where there weren't.
Overall it still looks the same as in the beginning. Although a bit heavier.

The config file has an option called "port"...
Well, the linux version (console client) has it anyways
Check freshmeat, look for napster, and take the console client :)
