you are letting legality influence your morality. IMHO the stealing is selling a cd for $15-20. The downloading of music on the internet is sharing. The RIAA just plain advertises too much. Good music should speak for itself. Maybe it's illeagal, but its not imoral.
so someone in a country where these kind of agreements are not legal or enforcable can read the pdf and give it to everyone else. Or better yet if they don't give it to anyone. Then people will be forced to stop using windows because it won't interoperate with their machines.
I see alot of people saying " no shit". But this is important. For the first time scientists have found a dinosaur heart. This heart is a four chambered heart. Which means it would allow for a high metabolism that warm blooded animals require. This is the first substinative evidance that dinosaurs were warm blooded before now scientists were only speculating that the dinosaurs were warm blooded
That's funny my G3 300 on my iBook running linux embarasses my Celron 400 when it comes to scientific applications. At work all I do is scientific. Which means about a half and half mixture between floating point and integer calculations. My celeron is 2/3 as slow. I guess your pII is just good at running benchmarks.
Tell me in what way putting books on the internet is restrictive??? True not everyone has an internet connection. But that doesn't mean they are restricted. They wouldn't loose anything but many other people would have alot to gain. People who live in the countrey far from libraries can still get internet access. Well that means that putting books on the internet would enable those people. It would save others such as my self many trips to the local library. Tell me who would be limited by putting a book on the internet.
Pdf files are not big(usally under 1MB). The biggest I have seen was the gimp manual. This was about 9mb. I have seen this as a pretty hefty published book. I'm sure that the library would have something about ten times that size. That would be rare though. But there are programs wich let you resume downloads. Before I had gotten any of these came out. I downloaded the diablo demo. At the time it was huge!! 40MB on a 28.8 modem. I had to download this as one continuous download. It took a few tries but I did it. I used a modem for quite some time and still do when I'm away from home. Last time i was away I downloaded 10MB worth of mp3 over long distance on my laptops modem connected at 28.8. and I did it in one day. It's not as difficult as you make it seam to download files bigger than 500k. You really are makeing it out to be worse than it is. Most modem users can connect to the internet stay connected and get downloads of about 2.8k/s. And that is a low estimate.
no it caters to many. No one is saying that you would have to get the stuff on the internet it would just be another option. Your car analogy totally doesn't apply. Besides people on modems can download stuff either in parts or download it slowly.
Not everyone can fly to Washington DC to the library of Congress. Not everyone can drive to the library of congress I would even say that there are more people on the net then there are people with the means to get to the library of congress
Everyone where I live can go to the local library and get on the net.
Freshmeat is my favorite example of andover suckage. First they put up pointless bandwidth wasting ads for gnu, wine, xmms, etc... Now they slowly started putting in real ads. Thankyou andover. I liked freshmeat much better when it was on redhat's servers.
he didn't say anything about kde. Personnally I think they both use up too much ram. I think he was making referance to the macOs.
The macos is the most bloated thing there is. I am writing this on a 32MB ibook running linux. This thing runs great under linux. (icewm + dfm) But it runs like crap under macos. I can't browse the internet without the hard disk scrolling. Linux runs great and its fast.
Linux will boot on any modern apple computer. The exception being the firewire powerbook. It now boots even the imac dv, iBook, G4. I'm writing this on my iBook right now. Apple has good hardware, I don't see why they should change. It seams open enough that the linux hackers can find a way to use it.
If you are going to hack then don't waste your time. You should do something constructive. Help out with the linux kernel. help out with gnome/kde. help out XFree 4.0. There are many projects both high and low level that need help. You can do something more productive with your time.
I've compiled X on darwin and just about every other x application. so It may be somwhat usefull, but there are better unixes out there for x86 right now and I just don't see darwin mattering all that much.
ok where is your explanation. second of all slashdot will not post a story unless someone has written a submition that sounds really good. Stories will be submitted and rejected. A week later the same story will be submitted and made to sound remarkable. This story will get accepted even though its the same story.
Looks like you are the moron who fucked up anyway. No need for excuses.
Slashdot will post any story as long as it sounds good. They will reject any story even if its really important if the person submitting it didn't make it sound good. so much for editors
gnumeric is not all that it's cracked up to be. It cant graph. A spreadsheet that can't graph. Let's see that means that about half of us here don't even see the point of gnumeric. Personally I have never used a spread sheet for anything but to make graphs.
you know there are other countries in the world. It's illeagal to export the playstation from japan. The us is not placing any restrictions japan is. So it's illeagal to export to any country or even to shoot it into space.

then run linux on your G4 dumbass. linux on my 300 G3 ibook outpreforms my celeron 400
no you are wrong. slashdot will often become slashdotted itself.

The mac interface was around before windoze dumbass

they were only going to release works with expired copyrights.

I look at it the other way around. I think its arogant not to put your stuff online when everyone else is.
for lack of a reason to use it outside. No net no fun.

uhh. I think he wanted to apply for a job at RedHat, jackass.
he did work on minix. he turned it into linux. If he worked on bsd then I would be typing this on a bsd right now.

Maybe so but that doesn't mean amazon should be getting nasty with other companies who haven't patented it. The patent is downright ridiculous.
