The game engine is a direct 3d game engine. They are going to have a hard time. Since they are probably going to port it to openGL they can probably also get an openGL version for windows.
It is an acomplishment if you consider what the memory footprint used to be. Mozilla doesn't leak as much memory as it used to. IMHO Memory usage was/is the biggest problem with mozilla. UI is the second. Everything else is done or nearly done. Except maybe some of the mail/news stuff.
For those that don't believe me download last nights build. Mozilla is really starting to come together. The ui is quick and responsive. Alot of the drawing bugs that plauged mozilla in the past are gone. The skin now uses a bigger font. The memory footprint is down to about 18M. Every week I download mozilla and it pleasantly surprises me each time.
The beta that was there a couple weeks ago sucked. First of all the required desktop for all users was kde. I hate kde./usr/local/bin/ is not in the path!! Editing/etc/profile doesn't do anything. lothar crashes alot. XFdrake doesnt work. Good thing I backed up my XF86Config. kdm was the default startup. That wouldn't be so bad but kdm didn't work neither did xdm. Only gdm. I posted these bugs to their mailing list and had not heard anything.
It's great that the world can be divided into two classes of people. Those who read mad magazine and those who didn't. I realize that by not reading mad magazine and going to school instead I am greatly decreasing my chances of getting a job later in life. Obviously so much more can be learned by reading mad.
Now how about you stop making half assed assumptions about people you don't know. Maybe you should be paying more attention to your own life.
Every one dies. Everyone will die sometime. Who is the one alive person you respect the most. They will die. Death is going on all the time. An incredible amount die every second. Death is not news.
I wish to exclude opinions from the comments page. They are pointless. What good does it do to anyone to know what someone thinks. Most of these people although sometimes add something to the discussion simply are being annoying. They are saying very little interesting things in their opinions and for many of us this just simply means nothing. People skip articles every second people give their opinions every second. Now if someone prominent right now like the president or Linus gave their opinion that would be news. Most of these opinions aren't. They are just people who everyone thought would talk anyway.
Maybe so, but many other people disagree with you. I just think this should be a catagory, so that one may choose to exclude this from the slashdot home page. Personally I don't see the point of recognizing what other people did when they die. By the time they die its too late.
I wish to exclude obituaries from my front page. They are pointless. What good does it do anyone to know that someone is dead. Most of these people although once great simply died of old age. They were doing very little productive things in their old age and for many of us this just plainly means nothing. People are born every second people die every second. Now if someone prominent right now like the president or Linus died that would be news. Most of these obituaries aren't. They are just people who everyone thought would would die soon anyway.
no it didn't. top especially gtop treats threads like processes. so when you have four threads(as mozilla does) and gtop or some other top program reports 112MB it realy means 28Mb. Don't talk about what you don't know. 112MB is ridiculous. A web browser would never use that much.
In some cases, the FAQ will give you the unsatisfying reply that your particular video card or hardware combination is "unsupported", either because we have no docs, or a server is not finished yet, or for any other reason. Don't attempt to bug us to get early access to code, i.e. ask us to become a "beta tester", or request that you want to receive a personal notification when a new version is available that supports your hardware. This is a volunteer's project, and we can neither send personal notifications, nor will we react to any pressure. Our WWW pages provide information about supported hardware for very long time already. We strongly recommend checking those before buying any hardware.
Where oh where on their website does it show a mailing list.
You can get pre and ac patches every two days. Much more often than X.
if I can easily gain cvs access then how come I don't have it yet. Give me directions and I'll do it. I can have a new weekly kernel just for the hell of it. I cannot get weekly snapshots unless I have a "good" enough reason
Will hardware accelerated 3d work with a G400 and dri in this release? Do I just use the glx module? Or do I download the glx module from the glx website and use that one?
I recently bought a logitech trackball. I got the expensive one. I have to say though it was worth it. I find it much easier on the wrist. I also play quake with it much better. Although it did take a week to get used to it. It's also completly optical. A friend of mine liked it so much that he bought himself one.
where can you get fbset I've been trying to find it.
works fine here. I can send you a binary if you email me. make sure you do a make dep in your kernel tree before you try to build this module.
They fixed it. the emu10k1 (sblive) driver works with the newer experimental kernels again.

in a couple days. The code freeze was supposedly yesterday.

The star wars Episode 1 movie sucked. It's not worth buying. What I would like to see is the original 3 on DVD, but that won't happen either.
the process grew to 112MB in size.

word for word from the reply
Don't attempt to bug us to get early access to code, i.e. ask us to become a "beta tester"
so they won't allow anyone who wants to seriously beta test. They don't allow beta testers.

3.10.1 is what it would become
PS these are not real numbers just a way of writing versions.
it's a pre-release not everything is guaranteed to work.
no if they do need more prereleases it will be .. 3.9.19 3.9.20 .... 3.9.99 3.9.100 ...
3.9.17
that will be the way it goes
you cant use kde without using X. jackass
