More is learned from failures than successes in most engineering endeavors. Hopefully they'll continue to refine their systems and will enjoy more success next time around.
I agree with you to an extent, but I would not like to have to rely on a reader post-collapse. Hard copies still have a great deal of instrinsic value, especially to a band of scientists trying to rebuild techological society!
Yes and no. Thousands of form letters also tell a company that the segement of their user base that has concerns is somewhat organized. That in and of itself can be a scary thing.
Ideally you are correct and those who have the language skills should use their own words. Having a form letter to copy and paste is a good thing for people who have a hard time expressing themselves in writing though.
That's the common theme, but not always the case. A *truly* good IT Manager also manages client relationships and expectations to the extent that a decent product can be delivered within a reasonable amount of time and for a reasonable amount of money. I've found that managing customer expectations is every bit if not more important than managing your people.
So in other words it's a wrapper for existing technologies? It could be useful I suppose, but I'm thinking it's being hyped up already by Adobe. Abstraction of the underlying technolgies is good in some cases, but I can just see the horrid things people will do with this. Flash alone is bad enough as it is the way it's often implemented.
The only issue with the PS3 is price. Period. Most people just are not willing to pay that much for a console. I may get one because of the Blu Ray, but most people aren't even thinking about HD DVD *or* Blu Ray right now.
You're absolutely right. Patenting an algorithm like this would be like me patenting, "A method of transportation involving the repeated placement of one foot in front of the other, thereby conveying motion upon the transportee."
With this tracking system in place, scientists are hopeful an interventions could be staged before any grim choices have to be made.
NASA has announced that they have gathered the mother, father, siblings, and close friends of asteroid YT8OJR in order to confront it about it's continued binge drinking and other self destructive behavior before it leaves more shattered lives in its wake. Unconfirmed reports show that the troubled asteroid could be close to cracking up. Hopefully the intervention will keep it from a collision course with disaster.
If you need to 'shoehorn' something into your organization then perhaps you should ask yourself if you have your oraganization's best interests in mind or are just promoting your own agenda. Perhaps your word choice was less than optimal, but you make it sound like you spend a lot of potentially productive time trying to promote your preferred solution.
Explain the 'Hi I'm a Mac...And I'm a PC' rubbish then?
You *are* technically correct, just like a 'hacker' isn't a 'cracker'. Popular culture has superceded the 'correct' definitions in both cases though, so you're really just picking at nits.
I have no problem whatsoever with activation. If people do not want to pay MS prices then there are alternative OSes they can use. There is nothing at all wrong with a company trying to ensure that people actually *pay* for its products.
This is the first time I've heard of Windows Activation being referred to as DRM. I think your knee just jerked, or perhaps you thought blasting DRM would garner you postitive moderation.
No, MS is executing it's legal obligations to maximize profit. It *is* the system that your ire should be directed at in this case. I notice you didn't make mention of Apple, etc. They *all* do it, and currently they have to.
Fix the patent system, and save your ire towards MS for things like illegally leveraging their monopoly power.
You're right. We should just all move into caves. Oh wait, burning wood creates pollution too, so no cooking fires in the caves. Let's just kill all humans and be done with it, since that's the ultimate end point in the line of reasoning used by the more radical elements of the environmental movement.
Recent studies also show that overweight people who excercise are less likely to suffer heart disease, diabetes, and other ailments than people of 'normal' weight who do not excercise.
This is a bit misleading and I hope it doesn't discourage the efforts to get kids to excercise more.

If slashdot really does represent a cross section of the IT industry, I understand now why there are so few women in that industry.
You have the cause and effect backwards. If there were more women in the industry, the geeks here wouldn't be so hard up and would not act like that!
(Oh and btw, Slashdot is *anything* but a cross section of the IT industry)
Orrrrrr...they could try something truly radical like making the browser a browser and the desktop a desktop.
This is yet another idea doomed to fail. Stick to making a better browser and email client please...k?
Thank you. Mod me off topic, but I'm so fucking sick of seeing Hitler/Nazi comparisons bandied about like that.

Not all IT Managers have pointy hair...

+1 Insightful. Please, for the love of God mod this up and pose the question to Sony.

YHBT YHL HAND
This same exact troll has been copied and pasted here for years...
Not to mention that revenue !=profit, and that the margins on hardware (Apple) and Software (MS) are *vastly* different.
It's not even really apples to oranges...it's apples to rocks.

I take it you've never seen the pricing Universities get from Microsoft most of the time...

I read it more as, "Waaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh." I could even pictuer Ballmer putting his thumb into his mouth after his rant.
Yes, but couple the capability with Google's penchant and capabilities for and with contextual ads. I can see them doing exactly that.

What you *should* get is -1 (Offtopic)
You've won the Slashdot "Pedant of the Day" award. Keep up the fine work and you'll help advance the cause of pedantry worldwide!
