Most tier 1 support people would not know a command line if it bit them. Also, they could use Remote Assist today with XP/Vista, so the ability to remotely troubleshoot and/or fix isn't something exclusive to *nix.
I continue to maintain that some psych major will have a field day studying the various pathologies that exhibit themselves on/. Parent poster is a case in point.
I agree that the system works better than any previous ones. I just like to point out that The "Don't Be Evil" motto/mantra is just marketing fluff now, if it was ever more than that. Apparantly I was flaming though judging from the moderation.
Um...no. The won the home user market through preload agreements with OEMs. The vast majority of people just use whatever is preloaded on the PC they buy.
I am not anti-corporate at all, I just have a problem with a company whose motto is 'Don't be Evil' that then proceeds to aid totalitarian regimes (China) and other censorship (India).
My problem is with hypocricy, not corporations.
The reason I used that point in time is that's when their legal obligation became making as much money as possible for their shareholders. They didn't *have* to cave to China and India to do that, but they chose to.
I don't know about that in all cases, though I'm sure it's true in some. I get my full 15 megabits from Verizon's FIOS always. The only time I get less than that is if there are other bottlenecks involved between my connection and whatever remote host I'm exchanging data with.
Prior to that I had 8 megabit from Comcrap. I got at least 7 most of the time, so still not too bad.
There are still a *lot* of areas that have no broadband available at all. Yes they are mostly rural areas, but I'll bet 90% of those people would jump at getting something faster than dialup. I could go anectodal here as I know quite a few people in this situation, but you get the idea.
I'd be ok with it, or at least *more* ok with it, if they didn't claim to be 'good'. They stopped being anything close to that the day they went public.
Can you explain then why warming on Mars appears to also be warming? Please don't tell me that we already have SUV's running around there spewing CO2???
That's actually not the lion's share of their business. They are an Oil Services company, and one of only two or three in the world that can do what they do. Even with regards to their Government contracts, the vast bulk of that work is in the Middle East.
People are starting to just grasp at straws now, either out of hate for Haliburton or a dislike of corporations in general.
Besides, the UAE doesn't enforce Sharia law, so that means there are hotties running around with very little clothing on!
Try plane flights from Houston to Hong Kong, Dubai, Beijing, etc. The CEO wants to be closer to the action so he's moving the HQ. I'm sure the decision was a bit more complex than that, but that's the gist of it.
I wish the reporting would be more accurate. They stated VERY clearly that they are remaining incorporated in the US and will still be paying US taxes and be subject to US law.
Ninety percent of their business is in the Middle East and Asia. The move just makes business sense. The only ill effect will be a few hundred jobs in Houston lost; not a good thing for those people but all part of business.
Why would someone take two relatively low cost media center PC's then proceed to test them using benchmarks designed to test gaming PC's? There were really only two tests that even came close to addressing the purpose of these boxen; the burning speed test and the DVD quality test.
Not only is it too expensive and not all *that* much better than some other smartphones out there, but the decision to lock in to one mobile provider is probably the one thing that will doom it to failure. Looks like a great toy, but far too expensive but as for me personally there is no way I'd switch to Cingular. Bad, bad experiences with them in the past. I doubt many people will rush to change providers just for a high priced toy. There will be a limited market within Cingular's existing customer base, and some Apple fans who will switch just because it's from Apple, and that is it.
While it's not my favorite distro, there are plenty of support options available for Ubuntu. Of course I'm pretty sure you knew that and just felt like tossing out a troll. The alternative is you're just daft.
You are an idiot. Please get some help. What is MORE GEEKY than a homespun OS trying to emulate the Windows API? Not only were your assumptions wrong. I wrote my first bootable stub/kernel when you were probably still suckling on your mamma's tit.
Shhhh...stop trying to inject common sense into the growing climate of creeping socialism in the US. You'll just confuse things if you keep talking about sensible approaches.
I've messed with ReactOS on and off for awhile. They really deserve some kudos for what they've accomplished to date, even if the system isn't really usable yet. I strongly encourage you to check them out if you're at all interested in the project; they've done some nice coding to date but can use all the help they can get.
As mentioned, it's perfect to diddle with in a VM environment, though I have loaded it on a dedicated test machine before and that was a lot of fun too.
How is this insightful? It is looking more and more like a bad coincidence. As they stated, their timezone did not change (though I agree with the poster who asserts it's best to run such things on UTC), and they've acknowledged network problems.
If you replace "MS" with "FOSS solutions" this would have been modded Troll or Flamebait.
I guess you missed the part about them not being safety related. One is for the seat heater, the other the rear door lock, and neither problem is present in my car. Nice try, better luck next time!
"When people here correct your spelling or grammar, they are really just trying to carry on our culture, and help you fit in. You don't have to, but if you don't, you will be seen as an outsider by many here. That's just how it is with people. You know the old saying, "When in Rome..." "
No, no they aren't. They are just trying to look/feel superior. You can rationalize otherwise all you want, but that's the gist of it. Impress us with original thoughts or content, not by pretending to be an English professor.
I'll bet if your wiper fluid saved you 25% on your fuel bill you'd fill it.

Nope, you would guess wrong. I live withing driving distance of Pittsburgh, but in a fairly suburban/rural area.

I can't imagine that at all without an old korean holding a bowl of hot grits.

This is such a non-story.

The methodology behind this review is horrible.

Just imagine what all those malcontents out there with too much time on their hands will do with this! It could be truly amusing.
Not *everything* works best when edited by the hordes.
