If Apple starts producing AMD based systems, which I doubt will happen, don't expect an open architecture. You can bet that there will be proprietary elements to the platform and OS/X won't run on commodity x86 hardware.
Ok...let's follow your line of reasoning there. If I decide to see if I can open my neighbor's window or door without setting off their alarm, have I commited a crime?
Just 'poking around' costs organizations time and money too, even if no real damage is done.
Just playing devil's advocate here. It isn't as cut and dried as some people seem to think.
Maybe you were just getting into the semantics of the arguement, but it sounds to me like you are saying that illegally cracking a system (or 'coaxing' as you so quaintly put it) isn't nearly as bad as physical theft or trespassing. From a moral, ethical and legal standpoint you are wrong if that is indeed your position.
Yes, he's vacillated quite a bit over time. I think it involves which company last gave him toys to play with or which rep bought him lunch most recently.
Excellent points, but I do not think that the main thrust of the GPL was to address those legitimate concerns. I'm not opposed to it per se, but it is basically a leftist notion that is incompatible with free market society (hence the term 'copyleft').
Translation: I don't want to pay anyone for their hard work in putting together any piece of cross platform software.
Seriously, software and politices are NOT the same thing. People need to grow up a little. I could maybe see the arguement of wanting to see the source, but free as in beer and speech just shows what you are really after; a free ride.
It said ethanol (non-toxic, the stuff in beer wine and liquor), NOT methanol (toxic, used primarily as a fuel additive for internal combustion engines).
This is great news. Now I just need to buy a variety of mixers to carry in my laptop case. A splash of fruit juice, maybe some ginger ale, and I can drink my battery fuel!!!
Seriously, this has been a long time coming, and yes there have been a few other Slashdot stories about ethanol powered batteries. I would love to get a hold of a laptop that runs for hours on end on grain alcohol.
Well, his first roll was an 18, as he landed on top of Frodo and Sam doing 1D4+1 damage to each of them. Unfortunately, he was hit in return with a Natural 20 and got himself captured...
One only has to examine the Linux distro home page to see over *70* forks of the original Linux idea.
Different distributions are not forks of Linux. A fork of Linux would be if some of the core kernel developers decided they didn't like how things were implemented in the Linux kernel and decided to write a new kernel using a different approach.
Maybe we should help! Perhaps an approach similar to how we pick interview questions: take the top ten moderated ideas and send them the link!
Of course, they may have some vague ideas already. Personally, I'd like to see something combining the storyline of a good RPG with the action of a good FPS. Open ended would be nice, something like Privateer or Freelancer but in a fantasy or military setting rather than as a space sim.
People can joke all they want about downloading their porn or grabbing music and videos anonymously. The biggest boon of Freenet, not to mention other efforts an anonymous P2P, is for people in countries with oppressive regimes. Information may want to be free, but so do people. What's more important, downloading the latest pop music in MP3 format, or free (as in 'I won't get shot for this') speech?
DOH! I just re-read your post, and you are correct. I misunderstood. Yes, using only 40 bits instead of 64 reduces pointer size slightly, thus overall code size. It also makes it easier from a motherboard design standpoint.
No, they would not double it. A 64 bit address space is 4 billion times the address space of 32 bit land. Even 40 bits is many (2^8 times more to be exact) than 32 bitness.
There is no flaw in the logic. It's fairly well known that 'opt-out' links on most spam is really just a way to check and see if an email address is valid or not. They don't care if you ever read it, they just want to sell the address.
Things are very different. Look at the Quake 3 engine. The higher the FSB goes, the faster it renders. Most modern (and not so modern, Q3 is OLD now) engines not only take up more space than the available cache, but they also rely on streaming large amounts of data from main memory. Higher FSBs, as long as memory speeds keep up with them, will accellerate most modern and not so modern gaming engines.

You expected an impartial comparison from THG? You must be new here.

Has there ever been any real news publised at that site (Commondreams)? It all looks like made up FUD stories and conspiracy theories.
Here I am correcting people and I didn't even take the time to properly understand why he was referring to methanol. My bad!
He was still wrong about methanol not being toxic...

Now, now, let's be realistic. You know that the UN would never do something so bold and effective.

New marketing ploy for TMF: get your security news before the 13-year-old 5
Not so fast! What if they steal some CC numbers first?

I'm still wondering what this story has to do with 'Your Rights Online'.

Law, in general, should help those who cannot help themselves.
This is the only part of what you said that I really disagree with. Laws should apply equally to everyone.
That said, I think that allowing people or companies to pay to extend copyrights is a bad idea.

1) Create a monopoly or a trust
2) Convince everyone that anything that works against said monopoly funds terrorism
3) ???
4) Profit!

No, it varies depending on the atmospheric pressure. It only freezes at 0C at Earth normal sea level pressure.
