You know, I keep hearing this, how Flash keeps crashing browsers. I use quite a few Flash sites ranging from casual games to management applications for security appliances, and I think I can count on the fingers of one hand how many times I've had a Flash related browser issue over the last couple of years.
I think it's either a tired meme or some people just don't know how to setup and maintain a stable system.
Ok, so what if 1% of all people on the planet just dropped dead? That would be over 60 million people.
Now apply that ratio to the thousands of nodes and terabytes of data that flow over the 'net. One percent is quite a bit more than you seem to think it is.
No I'm not comparing it to people dying. I am just illustrating the point.
No I was responding to a comment about the rules wars, but you'd know that if you actually read the chain of comments.
I expect grammar nazis on Slashdot but not 'on-topic' nazis, especially when it's a tangentially related discussion chain. I think you took a wrong turn at the Yahoo discussion groups or something.
What's wrong, someone shit in your cereal this morning? I was merely pointing out that in the pen and paper game one is free to use what rules one wants. Relax:)
The beauty of D&D is one is free to ignore the rules. I've never DM'd or played a campaign that didn't pick and choose and even customize with house rules.
Haven't played in awhile but when we do it's usually 2nd Ed + house rules.
That being said, I have seen nothing good at all about the 4th edition, and frankly no, it's not really D&D anymore other than the name. IMNSHO.
Treating human life as something that should be nurtured and not harvested is not something that is exclusive to religion. There are moral implications way beyond any silly mumbo jumbo myths.
For example, I am against abortion as birth control (note the difference; sometimes they are medically necessary and then there are cases of rape, etc.) but that has zero to do with any mythical dude in a beard sitting up in the clouds. It's because I think life is precious and if someone without any special circumstances winds up pregnant then that fetus should be allowed the chance to grow to term.
I'm not necessarily against embryonic stem cell research, but to dismiss the moral arguments as only those of people who cite their religion as the reason is misguided. My main concern with it is that we avoid any slippery slopes that lead to the production of embryos specifically for research. Then we are talking about the farming and harvesting of humans for our own gain.
I guess you missed the part where I said video surveillance just for the sake of watching employees wasn't good in my book. I was speaking specificly about email and computing resources, and you are the one with flawed logic. You're giving up your time in return for money, not out of charity, and you are using the companies resources.
Now I wouldn't go reading everyone's email, but for many reasons, some legal in nature, being able to audit and monitor electronic communications can be vital.
Not all versions required Windows. They sold a 'Red' version that did and a 'Blue' version that included their own Win-OS/2.
I wasn't comparing the code, I was comparing the phenomenon of people saying 'Oh it runs OK on Wine so it's alright' to things I heard from people about OS/2 back then.
Again, I want to see NATIVE development of Linux games. Wine is great and very useful but I want native code.
Oh I'm not a fanboy; haven't even booted OS/2 in years, and yes the compatability was at first shaky (much like Wine) then got stronger. I was just seeing a similarity here. Why develop games for Linux when many 'run OK' on Wine?
I'd LOVE to see Steam on Linux, and more games ported to Linux. I'm not sure why I was modded as flamebait when I was making a valid point that is of course open to debate.
Last I checked it ran pretty good in Wine (the Source engine too), so it's not a total loss.
Sure it's not a total loss, but that sort of thing is part of why OS/2 died and Windoze prevailed. OS/2 2.x+ had excellent Windows compatability up to the Win32s API's, which gave many developers little reason to target it with native versions of their code.
I'm sorry, but if I (as a company) am paying for and providing computers and email for my employees to do their jobs I should have every right to monitor it. I agree with a few provisions such as not using cameras for the express use of surveillance of employees, but as to the company's information systems, a company should have 100% access to everything done on said system.
His customers (I won't buy his overpriced overhyped crap) deserve an apology for his condescending 'You're holding it wrong' comment if nothing else. The man is a megalomaniac who literally doesn't believe he can ever be wrong.
They are testing techniques for detecting elements that may signal the existence of life as we know it. You have to learn to walk before you learn to run.
If everyone had your attitude we'd still be living in caves and worshiping the spirits all around us.
Thank you. If I hadn't just gotten rid of my mod points I'd mod you up. People are all about wanting 'free' web content, but they aren't willing to let the ads that pay for said content to load? That is indeed an assholish thing to do, or at the very least quite selfish.
He made it sound like no such thing. He stated the facts. There was a problem and Apple tried to ignore it hoping it would go away instead of doing the responsible thing and owning up to it.
Damn but you Apple apologists will go to great lengths to spin things. They make good products but they also make some huge blunders from time to time. Live with it, admit it, move on.
I'm undoing several moderations by posting in this thread but I just couldn't help myself. This is just too surrealistic, seeing otherwise intelligent people go into mental gymnastics rather than admit Apple fucked up.
Are you just being obtuse or do you really not understand the concept? If they identify the intruder and it's an enemy they can fire. If they can't/b? identify the intruder they can still order it to fire.
Pretty simple.

Once you have technology like this up and running why limit it to the X-Y axis? Being able to manipulate the interface with various gestures in three dimensions has long been a dream of science fiction. This kind of thing just brings it closer to reality.
Even the submission says it's because the company in question had privacy policies in place prior to going bankrupt. They would be violatinig said policies if they give away or sell the data. Listing it as 'assets' in bankrupcy court when they weren't supposed to sell it in the first place was a mistake by them.

Real Americans know that their taxes paid for the roads, not some magical wellspring of wealth spewing from Government coffers.

And we all know that statistics are never wrong or misleading.
I would bet large amounts of money that the actual number is far, far lower.
That explains why there are multiple therapies being used today that utilize adult stem cells, yet not one that uses embryonic ones.
Thank you for enlightening us with your (lack of) wisdom and knowledge.

I don't know, given a lot of the crap on the Internet these days I'd say a lot of the Tubes are Tubes to Nowhere.
In the name of the late Senator Ted Stevens, they are TUBES man, TUBES!

Actually I think we are in more danger from Asteroids than from Space Invaders.
According to the trailer it is persistent.

The Selective Service has no such polcies.
