No doubt. Choplifter has to be one of the most entertaining games I've played. I've been hoping for a Palm port of it... now THAT would be the perfect thing to do in a boring meeting.

And all of the Choplifter copies suck. We need the real thing. Sure, a few hundred delays would need to be added in to compensate for today's CPU speeds, but it sounds like a worthy goal.

Why must virii always be bad?

    I completely agree.

A local radio station plays 3 Metallica songs at 5 every day to entice some extra listeners. I was cool with it, until I heard about their actions. Now, if a Metallica song comes on, I turn the channel.

Just so everyone knows, I don't have a single Metallica mp3 on my hard drive. Listening to their music feels pretty cheap now. Too bad, I was a big fan... oh well, I like folk better anyway. :)

Well, I can't do everything by telnet... enter - webpad. I carry it with me, it wirelessly connected to the network with all of my regular permissions. If the guy wants to be with his family, and he should, that means time, not location. He could work next door and not be spending enough time with them. X-Files is huge, and it probably requires a lot of dedication and time on his part. He may not have minded this 7 years ago, but now he wants it different.

A quick read of the threads on this article should show anyone the huge flaw that exists in the MS plan. Personally, I would use that as a key point. MS plans to release this update, and they will then just have to answer for another mistake.

I don't like Windows, etc., but I don't want to see a company with that many good people go down in flames. The employees should really speak up for themselves instead of just accepting upper management's decision.

Maybe with more smart ideas, like this one, they could eventually gain people's confidence. heh.

People may scream that it's not crippled, but to me it is. I don't like floppies, I never have. But because I want to use an OS, I have to have one? That stinks if you ask me.

  18. Re:what's the affect of these "free" distributions on Get QNX For Free · · Score: 2

I would hazard a guess that their planning is flawed. While they are releasing versions of their OS's for free, the free versions don't have the full benefits of the commercial versions. freeBe, as we all know, is a PITA to get to boot without another OS to kick the boot off. Not to mention, freeBe doesn't come with all the cool programs that make it such an acclaimed system. After 30 minutes of playing with it, I was ready to format that 'partition' and make some useable space. I haven't tried this version of QNX yet, but I'm guessing it'll be similar.

They seem to be aiming at getting developers to make a crossover. But from my experience, why would a developer go from a system he uses and is free to improve, to a system he doesn't like quite as much and costs to improve?

It's MHO, but I think others feel this way too.

um, what kind of mid-range laptops are you talking about?

Every laptop I've used since 486 days has been quite high on heat. Sure, some are better than others, but most now have a fan installed in them. That makes then loud, and less battery efficient.

Consider: The Crusoe-700 is supposedly comparable to a PII-400. So you've got a trade off in the power dept. But how many applications are you going to run on a web pad that requires a high-end PIII? Even a full-fledged laptop isn't really going to need that kind of power. Games don't look terribly good on LCD's, so where is the power going to go? Unused, IMHO.

Now, how many handhelds have a PII-400 in them? None. Personally, I'd love that much power in a little touch screen wireless pad that I can carry around with me. And the fact that it can last 12 hours rocks. It's also going to be lighter. (S3's is supposed to be 2 pounds)

I think Transmeta has a lot going for them. This is a groovy little niche, and I think they've got a great plan.

    Actually, I think you're wrong.

Consider this: Your left brain is what handles speach, reading, writing, etc. It is rule based, like you said. So when the left brain sees an eye, it draws an eye. Here's the problem... the left brain doesn't draw what it sees. It draws objects based on what it thinks it sees. In other words, shapes from it's database. So you can't draw correctly using the left brain freehand. The left brain needs definite measurements in order to do anything correctly.

The right brain, on the other hand, deals well with spatial relationships. It looks at a line as a line, not the top edge of an eye. The right brain, in fact, doesn't realize that the shape IS an eye until the left brain takes over. The right brain knows only shapes. So if the right brain draws a shape, and the left brain doesn't interfere, the shape will be more realistic. The is because the right brain draws what it sees

That sounds like a stretch to me. I mean, really, humans aren't all hormones and instinct.

We create art because of an inborn need to create and express yourself. Some have more of a need than others, but everyone has it. I don't believe art is anything, though. Art is simply a creation, an outpouring from the right side of your brain. Art can be tangible or intangible.

But while art is usually functional, functional things aren't always art. We could argue about that, but I don't think you would win.
