  2. Re:Nonsense -- Network effect on IMUnified: Playing Red Rover With AOL · · Score: 1

Why wouldn't this work. To send cross platform messages, you can just treat the destination like an email addresses.. 1234567@icq to send a message to someone on the ICQ network, and SomeGuy@AIM to send a message to someone on the AIM network. Now each user is unique if you merge the two databases.

you'll probably need some sort of gateway.. but I think some companies are already doing something similar to this (ie everybuddy or something like that).

A: Much of the driver level code, API implementations and all kernel code is Open Source. The only exceptions are components of drivers, which must be preserved in a binary library file for security or copy protection integrity and the Xtrema API implementation. Some application components such as the Gecko HTML rendering engine and Necko transport engine are also Open Source. Many application components of the IES, such as the personal video system, will not be Open Source

What about the Lycos MP3 search engine? How is MP3Board different from that... other than the fact that MP3Board tends to return links to mp3s that actually work.

Shouldn't RIAA have filed the lawsuit against Lycos first? The concept is the same, implementation is a bit different. And Lycos had their mp3 search engine installed for a long time... way before Napster.

  5. context on Slashback: Juveniles, Sand, Trickery, MoBos · · Score: 1

Of course those pages would be blocked... the experiment was very biased and flawed. When you put together such quotes, taken out of context from the articles (or even the website) they were in, and string them up in such a manner, it really does push the emotional buttons. Hence an easy block.

Take another set of quotes, from the same articles, and you could probably come up with something totally different on a totally different topic.

I mean, politicians do this all the time, they slam each other by quoting each other out of context.

A better experiment would have been to take an entire antigay article (or website), put it on GeoCities, and see if that will get blocked.
