Why doesn't the RIAA do this? Allow Napster to sell advertising space on the clients. Track just the number of downloads of each artist (with full privacy measures in place). Divide the advertising revenue among the artists whose songs were downloaded proportional to their download volume. Problem solved.
In response to growing demands by the public and its students, beaver college reported today that they were switching from a per credit tuition fee to a monthly, all you can learn tuition structure.
The administration also said that they would offer year long "memberships" for a 10% discount.
Said the administration "seeing the sucess of the subscription model in other ventures, we can only go up from here."
If Microsoft wasn't around, i'm sure that Sun would be in the same posistion that Microsoft is now, except it would be even worse.

As a college student who has worked in a variety of "information technology" settings, I am pretty sure that it is not the field that I want to work for. Our kind, for a lack of a better word is seen as someone that does not need any respect, and is often treated as a non human being. When something goes wrong it is always your fault, and when you try to explain (such as Windows spiral of death) to your supervisor, they beleive that you are just making excuses and are lazy.
My solution? I'm only going to work for myself. No one else.
Piracy cost the California economy an estimated 18,000 jobs and $244 million in lost tax revenue in 1998. The estimated rate of illegal software installed statewide last year was about 29 percent, about eight percentage points higher than in 1997.
The reality:
All those pirated copies would of never been purchased anyway, so how can they claim a loss? You can't lose anything you never had.
I ordered a firecracker deal when Slashdot was promoting them (and who cares if Slashdot gets kickbacks)? It took a while to get it, but I did get it via priority mail. I had gotten concerned and called X-10, and I have to say that their customer service is top notch. Although the hold times are on the long side, when the guy answered he was extremely polite, and apologized and told me that the shipping department had gotten a little behind, and If I didn't get it by friday, call and they would ship another one free of charge (as they should). But there was no need for that, because it came that Friday, and came as advertised. I just ordered a DVD anywhere from there. There is a review of serveral of their products on AGN3D.
Slashdot saves me time and money by keeping me informed of important issues. $5.90 for the kit is a great deal, something that I would not have found out about if it wasn't for Slashdot's ever watchful eye on the things that matter to me. I say excellent job Slashdot for getting credit for all those referrals you sent over to X10.com.
After waiting for a long time, finally got bleem, and it runs horrible. The Direct3D mode is a joke, it runs better in software mode. (like the demo). What a waste.

Why not call him Quincy, the name of the lizard in those FoxTrot Cartoons?
As a computer support person for a university department, I would like to have someone to support that actually knew how to send email and use Excel.
how ironic.

Pizza Hut pizza has become nasty as of late. I wish they would use some of that money to improve the quality of their product.
