It runs on a stripped down version of Windows 2000. (The Dreamcast did run on CE though...)
But although the Xbox won't be able to run DVD's out of the box, Microsoft does plan to push it as a DVD player, (but only after you purchase their remote to make more money [sales] and save more money [less royalties]) and since it's running Windows and basically is a PC, I don't see why they wouldn't want the DVD extras available on Xbox...it would be an edge over the PS2 as well.

But assuming that the JPG format was standard for years and years to come....will a CD be standard 100 years from now? It won't be as easy to actually get to the JPG. Computers may stop using binary to store information...imagine a say 25 years from now (and this may or may not be sci-fi) will you even have an IDE port for all those files backed up to hard drive?

Then again, if you *really* needed it I'm sure you could find a Beta player today...it's not like we can't play records now either. Even if it's in a museum there will be some way to convert it to the new standard. (Heck, maybe it'll spring a whole new service industry down the road)

  3. Re:Last week on Cowboy Bebop Back on Toonami · · Score: 1

What CN actually played was ep 5 (Ballad of Fallen Angels) and then 7 (Heavy Metal Queen), skipping six for some reason. Although I must admit, episode 6, in cowBe terms isn't an entirely normal episode...with a worn-down-alien-like-near-eternal Earthling. But he does play a good harmonica in the series....luckily it has little to do with the plot of cowBe overall.

(and I do agree, the logo is annoying, but it adds that flavour of 'hey I'm watching Cowboy Bebop on tv. cool.' The best way to go is buying the DVD's -- good value 4 or 5 eps per disc)
