If you think about it, what could be a better scam. If you are a cable company, sell faulty descramblers through some sort of made up distributor. Then when people start using the devices (and they start to fail) you get all kinds of new revenue.
Kinda like running a stock research site and giving good or bad reviews on companies you have just bought or shorted.
You can't blame them for killing thousands of people because they were himiliated? Does that mean I can go run my truck through your living room because I have been offended by your post? Sounds good I will be right over.
I use and develop opensource because I want our society to become a Borg Collective. I figure if we start small by sharing our resources to develop code and the like, it won't be long before we start networking our neural processes, installing really wild implants, and flying around in big square ships.
I don't think that is quite right. I think the reason it can't be heard is because of its short duration. The watermark is distributed throughout the file in small chunks or whatever. Each chunk doesn't last long enough or is not repeated enough in sequence for our ear to realize it is there.
I read it too. It had something to do with the fact that you couldn't hear the watermark for the same reason you can't hear(for the most part) the sound that is lost due to MP3 compression.
Why bother with the speakers and mic. Once the MP3 is converted back to analog couldn't you just pipe the analog signal back in and convert it back to digital then store it as the new file?
...Oh wait if that works maybe using analog signals is illegal as well.

The only scam here is this woman is going to get out of jail in three years with 2.1 mil sitting in some offshore account.
There is no Nigerian involved. It was all about her wanting to retire early with a lot of money.
I can just see the X10 popup adds now...

Oh wait didn't consider the previous post about watermarks...guess that takes care of my so well thought out hack.

...doesn't even have an electrical charge through it
This one of those new non-electric mice? Are these the ones that run on telepathy?
