And? This same thing happens on every level of society. If you are hiring or know of a job opening you normally contact friends or people you have worked with before prior to soliciting outsiders. Its pretty normal/common.

One thing I just keep failing to understand. If Enron has all these "ins" and bought all sorts of government people, why can't they take advantage of them? Enron tried (before it hit the news) to call in favors and people said "sorry can't help you, bye." Is Enron suddenly not circling the drain because of all their bought influence? Also if you check facts Enron contributed quite heavily to both sides of the aisle.

  4. Linux desktops sucks on Linux *Won't* Fail on the Desktop? · · Score: 2, Insightful

It is sad to see so many people making excuses for Linux (note: any reference to Linux == desktop) and telling people what features they *really need* and what ones they don't. The unfortunate fact is that Windows (& Mac) are far superior to anything Linux has to offer.

Remember that most people do not care about the licensing issues other than free as in no money.

Now to get rid of the anti M$ feelings lets say Kde has all of Window's features etc, and Gnome has all of Linux's (remember were just talking desktop). Could any of you really step back and look at the two objectively and honestly say that Gnome was anywhere near Kde ? Even in the same ballpark? Are they even playing the same sport?

Linux has a loong way to go to be anything more than a niche desktop product. There are so many simple little things that it still can't do. For example, I was doing some work on a default Red Hat 7.2 install in KDE. I was browsing with Konqueror and went to copy a url that was in the text to paste it to another Konqueror window. Well it no workie. Now I know that if I run Mozilla it would have worked, but the problem is I shouldn't have to know that. It should *just work*. There are a lot of well-if-you-would-just-use-xprogram-or-run-yscript -you-could-get-it-to-work-without-too-many-problem s "solutions" to things that should *just work*.

If Office XP ran on Linux *today*, Linux would gain some serious ground but it would still be quite a way behind. I truly wish that were not the case, but it is.

    Medicine-for-profit is bad.

    How is anything-for-profit inherently bad?

If there was no profit pharmaceuticals would have no reason to continue spending billions on research and making drugs from that research.

I agree. Why would anyone invest billions in something if they expected nothing in return?

    Medicine-for-profit has denied you treatment.

M-f-p may have (in the form of HMO's it sounds) denied you treatment. The fact that you are taking drugs that were made precisely because of profit potential tells me that you have benefited from m-f-p, and most likely quite a bit more than you have been denied.

  6. GameCube supports HDTV. NOT on To HDTV or Not to HDTV? · · Score: 1

GameCube's most certainly do not support HDTV. The only console that supports HDTV is the Xbox and they have no games that are HD. Both systems do support 480p. The Xbox has a high level of 480p and 16:9 support but the GameCube has only a few titles that are 480p and fewer still that are 16:9.

Note: 720p and 1080i are HD formats anything less than that is not HD.
