We know that there were no ties between those two groups, but if you repeat false information often and from a tall pulpit, the sheep will believe you. I've heard many people that believe that Iraq was responsible or associated for the 9/11 attacks. Don't get me wrong, I believe Saddam got what he deserved and that it was a long time coming. But I also believe we were conned into this unnecessary war where we continue to waste resources that could be much better used elsewhere. my .02 and I'll vote accordingly, Noah

From what you described, it seems that your daughter is just not interested in the material being taught- probably stuff that she mastered by age 3! One solution is for her teacher to figure out her preferred learning style and teach to it. http://falcon.jmu.edu/~ramseyil/learningstyles.htm

Another solution is for the teacher to use the curriculum compacting model and acceleration in your daughter's areas of interest. Curriculum compacting is when the teacher uses pretests to determine what the student already knows as to avoid wasting time with repetition. If your daughter consistently gets 100% on all spelling tests, for example, she should not need to continue these. (I am assuming that she is in first grade since she is 6 years old.) Your daughter could select a list of words from books that she reads (probably above the class level) and use these for her word list. These are a few simple ways to engage your daughter and keep her learning "meaningful." Hopefully she will also begin class with the gifted and talented program if your school has one. If anything, at least this will give her the affective component she needs to meet her emotional needs and give her time with other children who are more like her. If this is not available, talk with her teacher about allowing your daughter to work in depth on a subject that she is interested in, for example- animals...maybe she could bring in materials from home and use the internet to find out about animals who live in the rain forest, gather data, make predictions, analyze and synthesize what she has discovered and present it in some way such as a portfolio, book for the class, sculpture, song, poetry, puppet show, skit, etc. incorporating several curriculum units such as math, history, science, and language arts all in one.

The real irony here is that a Russian company is effectively working to defend American freedoms against its own capitalistic forces. Should make for some pretty amusing classroom reading in about 100 years.

This is precisely the the same thought that i first had. I find it amusing yet somewhat sad that this is the sase however...Though it IS quite amazing if you think that 20, 15, or perhaps as reciently as 10 years ago one would have been regarded as insane had they predicted that in 2002 a Russian company be in such a position. It is sad that we (as Americans) had to resort to an external entity to help protect what liberties we have remaining. As a society we have aparently become as fat and lazy as the rest of the world quietly quips behind our backs. Even this new found "Patriotism" that seems to be sweeping the nation doesn't have the same ring to it that existed post WWII, ask any old vet. I'm sure they'll agree...provided they are able to see objectively past the patriotism of their youth. Todays patriotisn (much like the commercolympics) is more about slapping a Flag (tm) on the back of your truck (tm) and watching 15 thousand "we support the USA buy our product" commercials than actually uniting as a country. Hell, scientists barely share information with each other any more for fear that someone else might be first to market with the new and improved cheese spread (tm). And not to be hypocritical, i'm as guilty as everyone else.

only problem is that the bigger and more successful america becomes, the bigger and unmanageable the problem gets.

call it the paradox of national success. perhaps that is what they will read about in 150 years.

To answer your question, (IMHO) no it is not conveivable that microsoft is delibrately designing holes for federally controlled security system. What would they gain by it other than yet another govt agency snooping in their buisness practices and more costs against their bottem line. At first guess i would suspect that this is just what it appears to be, a security hole associated with too much complexity, too many buisness units, too little time and too short a budget. Microsoft is a buisness....their only interest is the bottem line and getting their customers ripped off is NOT not you protect that interest.

So far as your Anthrax link? Give me a break! The government really has nothing to gain from inducing mass hysteria in the common populace. The costs from this anthrax mess will be astronomical when all is cleaned up and over (and/or vaccinated). If the goverment WANTED to get a bill ike that passed they can just pass it, or at worst let some terrorists blow something minor up and let the media take it from there. Anthrax is more threat than necessary to acheive the passing of some "security" legislation. The point of the matter is that the government benifits in neither situation.

That is the problem with conspiracy theories, generally (and i say generally so i'm not slain by the nitpickers) they have a difficult time passing even the simplist test of Occhams razor. (again for nitpickers, I'm NOT saying that Occhams razor is absolute...just that there is a reason that it exists)
