In principle I agree with you, but take exception to your dismissal of dual PSUs.

All our servers run affordable dual PSU units, with single backplanes and modular PSU trays. These fit into standard ATX PSU bays so special cases aren't needed. These weren't purchased due to anticipating PSU module failure, but upstream power source failure. We can power down any one UPS in our server room without affecting any servers. Given the reliability of UPSs and the occasional need to move cables, etc, this is a definite bonus for us.

I've been saying this for ten years now, but User Operation Prohibitions, just like region restrictions, on equipment that people own are simply not acceptable.

I have seen so many DVDs with unskippable previews, FBI warnings (on region 4 DVDs no less) and of course the stupid "You wouldn't steal a car.." campaign. No wonder this depiction is so accurate.

That said, I was pleasantly surprised when one DVD I rented recently had just one message that lasted about 5 seconds and simply said (paraphrasing) "For supporting the movie industry, THANK YOU". Presumably this is an attempt to give warm fuzzies (positive reinforcement) for not pirating (rather than punishment for those who do). Of course that could always end up on a ripped copy anyway but that's not the piont...

Sure, and if you want those add-ons you need to go hunting online around a dozen websites, downloading packages from here and there, hoping they're the ones you want and not full of spyware or your onramp to botnet XYZ.

Yes, I too prefer the multi-window paradigm for the reasons you stated.

The one gripe I have with their implementation (at least on 2.6) is that the palette windows don't show up in the taskbar or alt-tab switcher, just the main window and editing windows. This is probably by design and I'm sure there are good reasons for that, but it would be nice to have each window as fully managed by the user's window manager.
