I don't have cable TV. My webcam has a shutter and I disconnect it when not in use. My headset's resting place is right next to a system fan and I've done testing, Even sitting 2 feet away talking in a normal tone of voice is incomprehensible. What my OS reports about me, I try to control as much as possible. But without the equipment to basically listen in on me and PHYSICALLY track me around my home, the info they get is of low quality.
"You don't hear about European companies having data breaches."
Of course. With the way the data breach laws are constructed, it's simply cheaper and easier buy off whoever discovers/exploits the breach and then pretend it never happened while locking down.
Sorry, but security is almost purely a reactive thing. And worse, HUMANS are tossed into the mix.
As such, security is a delaying action, at best. If someone really and TRULY wants in, they're getting in. And pretty much nothing short of destroying your computing assets wholesale will prevent it.
Security has become so full of snake-oil salesman they they've forgotten that their primary purpose is hardening to the point where your average 6 year old with an iPhone can't get root on your production servers. And their secondary purpose is monitoring the network, both proactively and in the event of a breach.
So, even if someone gets in, you SEE it and you have a log trail.
This idea that security will keep your assets totally and completely hack-proof is utter nonsense. DANGEROUS utter nonsense.
I need someone to translate from English into Dickless Eurocrat.
Term to be translated: "Eat shit and die you oppressive, small-minded choad-smoking muppet farts! Go back to tonguing Angela Merkel's unwiped ass. Fuck the bureaucratic Germanic Fourth Reich and I hope Brussels is firebombed by the very economic migrants you made the mistake of letting into Europe."
Fuck the pension fund. I'm supremely indifferent to the Chicago politics that caused hyper-inflated pensions to be assigned to a bunch of greedy bastards and then kicked down the road.
The same CPS that struggles to graduate kids from High School. The one that struggles to turn out kids who can handle college. The one that struggles to turn out college-ready kids who DO NOT need massive amounts of remedial courses. The one who thinks that simply throwing more money at a failed system will, somehow, magically transform them into a success (and we wonder why the KIDS are so dumb...)
And no. The main reason why jobs like this are offshored isn't because we don't have enough programmers. It's a cost-saving thing. Why pay a US coder a decent salary when they can just offshore, or if required to keep the job in the states, demand 30 years of experience in a 3 year old technology, and then pass the job to an H1B farm for pennies on the dollar?
Like every other political group in Illinois, talking out their ass is a required skill.
Look at pictures of the tubing being used for the Hyperloop. Notice how it's got internal braces in there? Those are there so that the unfinished sections don't collapse under their own dead weight. And they're actually thinner than the walls of a tanker car. And the tanker car held a powerful vacuum just fine unless the car wall was damaged.
Hey. Let's just mount a couple hundred miles of track a few feet off of tectonically active GROUND and within reach of whomever happens to drive by...
You DO realize that urban sprawl doesn't respect safety perimeters right? Unless the land on which this is being assembled also accounts for significant safe space around the track, urban growth will eventually encroach on the track's right-of-way. Also, bridges, and other places where public transit crosses the track right-of-way...
WHOOPS! The track was built too low in this area and a semi-trailer just hit it!
Basically, saying "will not be built through urban areas" simply means "will not be built, PERIOD".
Planes generally have failures well out of the way of other things, like the ground.
The Hyperloop is right there on the ground. And a containment failure on the vacuum tube will basically cause the line to implode. How often could that happen? How many people live on the ground?
It's because you're a product of population that didn't do the smart thing and get out of Europe and the UK when things went to pot. You simply don't have the mental agility to follow along with Baseball or Football. And yeah, to be fair, you don't get exposed the same was you do for simpler sports like Cricket and Rugby over there. As such, your tiny brain shuts down from the information overload and you register it as boredom.

You use text!
Text bad!
Text no show humor!
Text bad!
BAAAAAD!
Yes but that leave the rest of my house without power as well.
Not an optimal solution.

I like my tech gadgets and everything.
But I'll be damned if I'm going to wire my home up to spy on me and send all the data back to Amazon, Google or WHOEVER.
I don't give a shit HOW useful it is. It's simply TOO intrusive for my liking.
And if I ever move into a place with this crap pre-installed, I'll have an electrician out first to disconnect it all.
Seriously.
While he comes out with lots of enchanting ideas. When you do a bit of checking for feasibility, it's all hot air...
And he runs his mouth CONSTANTLY.

Yes!
Yes they are!
You need our wrigglers to keep things jumping!
Sorry, but people, as a group, are mouth-breathing, drooling, drunken morons of questionable parentage.
Cars, as they are, are barely within their ability to control.
Flying cars would just get lots and lots (and LOTS) of people killed.
Guess again

What's the worst that could happen?
Talk to John Paul Stapp about what uncontrolled deceleration from transsonic speeds will do to a human.
You ever see what an induced leak or structural weakness does to a vacuum chamber?
https://youtu.be/T9bpUfWy8Wg
Ever see what a shockwave will do to equipment and human bodies?
Look at nuclear bomb tests again. Watch the shockwave there.

Exactly.
Actually no.
On both counts.
Planes generally have failures well out of the way of other things, like the ground.
The Hyperloop is right there on the ground. And a containment failure on the vacuum tube will basically cause the line to implode.
How often could that happen?
How many people live on the ground?
GOOD!
I hope Gab takes their lunch money and shits in their cornflakes.
It couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of ideological bigots.

The "or else" means you either disappear off the Internet, or any browser with any association with them lists you as a malware site.
Fuck Google.
