  2. Stinking chairs on Last Great Internet Bubble Auction · · Score: 1
Yeah, I thought the Aeron chairs were ridiculous too, until I sat in one for a while. Maybe it's because I never had a chair worth the farts embedded in its fabric before, but the Aeron is a damn fine chair that's done wonders for my back; and, apropos the previously mentioned farts, the Aeron doesn't suffer from the I-inherited-some-smelly-geek's-chair-and-can-no-lo nger-breath-through-my-nose phenomenon.

All that's not to say the your company (or you) should go out and drop $800 on a chair if they (you) can barely pay the electric bill. But should you/your company find itself with a little extra cash to spend on posture and long-term comfort... they rock!

  3. Presentation and Code on Jakarta Velocity Tools 1.0 Released · · Score: 2, Interesting

Since people are talking here about the separation of presentation and logic code, I'd simply like to throw in another toolkit which achieves this wonderfully: Janx (demo here).

While total separation is not the goal, the fact that after only a couple of hours of me explaining the basics of flow control and context to purely HTML/Interface folks they were able to take full control of the user interface development and maintenance of an active online magazine.

Mod me as a troll if you will, but I've yet to find a toolset as simple as Janx (powerful too, though it does need some updating).

Seeing how worms can bring the net to its knees, how is ever MORE traffic (probably misdirected) supposed to help anyone? Getting sucker-puched sucks, but it only gets worse if you start swinging-away in the croud...

  5. Magical Finder bug of a basically similar color on Mac OS X 10.2.4 Is Out · · Score: 2, Informative

Never saw the bug this update mentions fixing in the Finder, but it appears they've just replaced it with another one:

Step 1) untar a set of files to your desktop via the terminal (possibly using GUI app too?).
Step 2) single-click on one of the files to "verify that it's really there"... it is and is highlighted
Step 3) perform exactly the same untar operation from the command line again
Step 4) single-click on one/any/all of the files to "verify they're really there"... poof! it/they disappear, never to be seen again unless it is via the terminal (or you relaunch the Finder). This also happens if you click-drag to move them or click-drag to highlight multiple, as soon as you release the mouse-click... poof!
Step 5) You're not insane, 'ls' from the terminal and sit back in awe.

biting quips fail me on this one.
