You know, this is probably the first time I've really even thought much about cursive since graduating highschool, admittedly only 6 years ago. But it's amazing how little use there is for it in the real world. I sit down and try to find a reason to use it, and it seems to be just tradition and nothing more. A relic handed down simply because those who came before us liked it. I would ask, why is the demise of cursive even really a negative thing?
...for a judge to order him to never file another civil suit again? It really angers me to see someone abuse the system like this with no real repercussions.
Also true, but to fully complete your analogy and make it applicable, how would you feel about someone reverse-engineering your closed-source app and releasing their own open-source version? Applying the views you expressed about book authors writing about concepts, I would tend to think that you would have no problem with this practice. Right?
This is already done, all the time. A good book-related analogy would be simply a book that comes to the same conclusions, possibly even using the same methodologies, but phrased and presented differently. The software equivalent might be Gaim and Aim. both have exactly the same ends, and use similar means to get there, but are not identical, and thus should not be a copyright violation.
Eh? Your analogy is ridiculous. A better one would be Joe writing the code, then Jane copying to disks and distributing it all over the world. And if Joe wants his code to be seen (as most musicians want their music to be heard) that would be a great thing indeed.
A search for "United airlines" should come up with sites criticizing united before the actual company site? Why the fuck should google dictate political views in their searches?
I think the little stick people are the actual Mackie logo now or something. Or at least, they are all over my friend's Fussion system's 450's, 1800's, and 3000's.
...the RPG's Fallout 1 and 2 had some of the best manuals I have ever seen for a game. Interesting, witty, cool, informative. They taught you how to play the game and contributed to the immersion factor at the same time. I loved the recipes for post-nuclear food in the back:)
Ah yes. Worldforge. The assholes who think they've patented the idea of a computer generated 3d world in which people are represented by avatars.
Real cool buncha folks.
I think his statement about Counterstrike being released in 2000 is misleading. It was released as a separate product in 2000, but it was played for far longer than that as a public beta- I think the original public beta release was in early '99? Maybe even earlier.
Also, I don't think Rainbow 6 and CS have much in common besides theme. The gameplay is very different.

How bout just being able to buy a PC sans Windows (or any software)? Since most Linux is completely free, why does it need to ship with an OS at all?

Oops, I think I just called them and cussed them out. Hope it doesn't happen again in... oh, 5 minutes.
