    Be cause you can get tape librairies with hundreds of tapes, tapes are cheaper than entreprises disk,
    A Disk robot is not practical, think of weight and electrical connectivity

    I thought that the snmp poller only polled interfaces status, if so it doesn't fit the bill.
    If it can poll any oid and test the result against arbitrary values i should look harder, i'm afraid that passive status check could be a serious performance hit.

    I'm following OpenNMS with some interest. (mostly for network)
    In the backend, I think it miss a way to monitor via snmp the status of modules in a network chassis

    Ther is also a visual feedback with a picture of a keychain, the picture changes as you type your password, so if you have typed 5 characters of your password you can see with the picture if you had typed correctly.

    as a matter of fact I do work in France.

    while not easy, you can certainly be fired over Internet misuse, especially if it involves installing dialers and such on a computer.

    beside, monitoring is allowed as long as the personnel is informed and it is declared to the CNIL.

    The trend nowadays in France is to complain about purchase power.

    But the goverment is unwilling to lower taxes and the reccord industry is unwilling to lower their profits margin.

    for instance a NIN CD sells 8 UKP (10EUR) the same CD sells 22EUR in France.

    go figure why people are pirating

    do it once and be fired for breaching the IT usage policy that you signed while joining the company.

    beside, it's not as if a governemental agency is blocking uniterally your internet access.

    I suppose that in that case, your company is considered as an ISP.

    This amendment to the law was rejected.

    The current proposal seems to be a fine of 38 for the first offense. 150 for the second.

    And contrary to what the summary says in theory the toughtest law in Europe is french.

    You can have a maximum of 300,000 fine and a 3 year in jail term.

    Well with Betamax, DDC, MiniCD, they tried to lock both the industry and the consumer resulting in low acceptance. if as the article says you can read PDF (and you can upload them without Sony's blessing) maybe i will consider it.
