The science of calculating the amount of greenhouse gasses released from combusting fossil fuels. It's pretty simple, really. It all comes down to the amount of CO2 released when burning, for instance, 100lbs of jet fuel.
Everybody loves to use "It's" like it's going out of style.
IT'S = a contraction of IT IS Used in sentences like: "It is a sunny day" = "It's a sunny day" "It is really annoying" = "It's really annoying" "Don't do that, it is stupid!" = "Don't do that, it's stupid!"
ITS is neuter possessive - as in his or hers, only it refers to a non-gendered object. Used in sentences like: "My laptop's battery lost its charge" "Open Source Software has its drawbacks" "The G5's strength is its vector processing abilities"
Many times you can save an extra keystroke by using "its" instead of "it's" - and you get the bonus of being grammatically correct.
The ease of scripting with the power of java. You can include any Java component and interface it with the most intuitive web scripting language around. Oh yeah, it's cross platform, too (runs as Java app).
Is it just me, or are posters over-using "ergo"? Ever since Matrix Reloaded came out, every other post has "ergo." (yes, I'm exaggerating). Every time I hear that word, I imagine the architect saying "ERgooo." It's kind of annoying:p
And it's interesting that the word "fascism" came from the latin word for a bundle of sticks. The bundle of sticks is symbolic, because it represents many small parts combining to make one strong entity. So, any form of government, especially democracy or communism could be labeled as "Fascist" in a technical sense. It's because of the Italians that it's used as a negative term today.
Don't believe me? Look at the back of the dime. There's a nice picture of a bundle of sticks on fire. Sticks combined into a single torch burns brighter than sticks burning individually. In other words, our 50 states united are more powerful than each working individually.
1.) John Connor Realizes in the future or present that without Skynet, he can't become the great worshiped leader of the humans. 2.) John either tries to further along Skynet's progress in the past or allies with Skynet in the future to hurry along production. 3.) Rebels within the human resistance send back Arnold to kill John in the past. 4.) John/Skynet send Terminatrix back to kill Arnold. 5.) ??? 6.) Profit!
I'm sure there's some time travel loop-holes there, but I still think that plot would have been cooler. In fact, after seeing the teaser for the first time, I thought that that's maybe what was going to happen. Now I'm a bit disappointed!

Wow, that's pretty depressing. It's like digging your own grave.
I'm just starting a job in a company similar to your earlier experience. Guess it's something to look forward to!
...However, every application that Apple has written uses multiple threads. If you have the developer's tools installed, run the Thread Viewer application and attach it to apps like Safari or iTunes. Right now, Safari is running 5 threads as I type this, and iTunes is running 12 threads. Even Microsoft Word runs 4 threads. Too bad I only have a single G3:(
So, who ever wrote the article (slp?) is a bit misled in thinking that having two processors won't help real world performance.
I'm no auto buff either, but I remember reading about an American truck/SUV coming out soon (don't know who makes it) that will switch between using 4 and 6 cyllinders, depending on whether you're actually hauling anything. I don't think this is implemented in any Japanese cars.
Actually, it was developed by Atanasoff as a professor in the Physics and Mathematics departments. Ames Lab was more concerned with developing metals and refining plutonium for the Manhattan Project (which happened to cause a nice explosion which blew out a wall in one of the buildings on campus while they were playing with magnesium).
Iowa is a good place to raise a family, but that's about it. Only 1 in 4 Iowa State students will stay in Iowa after they graduate. The majority of people that live in Iowa are either farmers, old, or have been there all their lives and never went beyond high school. It's pretty sad when I get off the plane from DC and look around at the people at the airport - all old people.
BTW, I also happen to live right near the DOT in Ames. I was surprised to see a story featuring Ames/Des Moines of all places.

Right now, I'm browsing slashdot on my 500MHz iBook with Opera 5.0. It is a bit slower than Opera 6.0 on my PC, but as the article mentions, Opera 5 for Mac isn't yet optimized for OS X.
If you want raw power out of a Mac, switch back to OS 9 or boot up Linux.
This fall, I took a computer architechture class and they got us started on MIPS. I read further into our text book and it went on to explain how x86 assembly works. I was horrified at how bass-ackwards it was compared to MIPS!!
Then you start reading about the different design philosophies between RISC and Intel...
I worked as an Intern for the Department of Agriculture, and it's strictly a Microsoft shop. There was a madate set by someone up top that EVERY computer in the Department use Windows. It's kinda sad, considering how much M$ wanted to charge us for a WebDAV solution.

The source code is all on Github. Here's our flight calculation code, for instance: http://github.com/brighterplanet/flight and detailed documentation, including citations: http://brighterplanet.github.com/flight/carbon_model.html
For each calculation, you can also view its methodology statement: http://carbon.brighterplanet.com/flights?airline=Continental&origin_airport=MSN&destination_airport=IAH&trips=2

1. There should be a way to permanently attach network mappings that automatically show up when you plug into the network.
You can have network drives show up automatically when you log in. Just drag the drives into the startup items box in the System Control Panel.

No, it's $423,329,885.82
Does this also mean we'll have to convert to base 4?
Yeah, besides, Flash is a standard, it just happens to be a defacto standard.

I think a coooler plot for T3 would have been:
1.) John Connor Realizes in the future or present that without Skynet, he can't become the great worshiped leader of the humans.
2.) John either tries to further along Skynet's progress in the past or allies with Skynet in the future to hurry along production.

It's a tad ironic that it carries the same name as Apple's codename for an early version of OS X.

I was wondering the same thing until I realized:
64-bit AIBO's!!!
But, seriously, I have a hard time seeing why my digital camera or PVR needs a 64-bit processor.
I wish I was paid to ask questions on Slashdot. I wouldn't even have to finish my CS degree!
But you're forgetting one thing. This is a package deal. You get DSL and Cable TV for $40. Satellite plus DSL would be (about) twice as much.
