Wow, one of my favorite movies is on that list. I am surprised The Adventures of Baron Munchausen didn't do better. and Cutthoat Island was pretty good too. Now i will agree, Santa Clause - The Movie sucked major ass, and needed to fail.
subtitling has to be done afterthe movie is finished for two reason (well atleast two). One, there is the whole issue of timing (and I am sure anyone who has done this will agree with me that this is probly the most time consuming of the parts of it). The second issue is with the fact that what is in the script doens't always match up with what is being said or done. There is the whole concept of adlibing parts of movies. I am sure that movie studios would do it that way if it were just that easy, but alas it isn't.
not for 6 months, but that is only if the community stays on the ball and current. 12 month - a year and a half for full functionallity. Even then you can't get support from the maker.
I know this will probly be considered flamebait but here goes.
To the best of my knowlage M$ has never said open source == bad. They have however stated the GPL == bad. And their stance on BSD if I remember right is a possitive one. There is nothing ethically wrong with releasing your projects closed source, just as their isn't anything wrong with releasing them open source. However, the problem comes when you try to force a project to be open to be able to use your code. What really should be done is to give credit, because there is no reason that someone should have to open the source of anything.
There should be a massive thinking of the way open sourcing is done in the GPL world. Isn't the point of open source to spread ideas and to develop the community as a whole? How do you accomplish this by making other people have to do things your way. Why should you care if some company uses your code (or anyone elses for that matter) to make money off of, most likely by keeping it open no one was going to make money at all. However, by letting them use your code in a closed source project you are actually going to make a difference on something that some other people are doing.
If the world of open source would quit advocating that you should only do open source projects and let every one do it their own way with what ever they needed then maybe we will see their be a superior standard way of doing things on the PC market. Prohaps even going as far as to combine large portions of Linux into the windows market. If you people don't get your act together and quit being zealots about things then Linux will forever remain a non-major player in userland.
I have only had one problem with WD in the past as well (also the only problem I have had with a HDD at all). My problem was with one of the 3 gig drives. It worked for about half a year then died for a while, then came back, but wouldn't stay working for more than about an hour or two before it would die again.
Since then I have bought a 40 gig and a 10 gig WD and neither have had a lick of problem. My 4 maxtors have never had a problem (2 300 meg, 6 gig, and 20 gig), nor have my seagates (2 20 meg, 200 meg, 10 gig, and 80 gig). there is a few drives that I don't remember what they are but I never had problems with them either. WD has become a worthwhile HDD company recently and it is what I use when I build for other people, and when I don't have the budget to put seagate drives in (for somereason they are real expensive in this area).
do note that the speed of light changes some when it passes through materials of different densities. first you would have measure the speed of light in a given substance before you made your expariment. otherwise you wouldn't know what the speed of light should be, could also change slightly due to the changes in air density.
when a negative is applied to a negative it makes a possitive. So, following this logic, if I wrong a wrong, I am making a right. So, I would have to say that two wrongs can make a right.
This is so true. A job that you enjoy doing is far better than one that just gives you lots of dosh but little or no satisfaction. I get paid peanuts where I work (I work in a photolab), but I love my job, I have a wonderful boss, and there is nothing like seeing the look on peoples faces when they get their pictures back and are pleased with them. If I didn't like my job I would go back to being payed a LOT more cutting up animals (which is enjoyable in its own right, and yes I know I am a sick bastard, but hey it is fun.). If you can find a job that you enjoy, you should take it even if it doesn't pay that well. If money is your main concern then you will be very unhappy in life as the jobs that pay best are usually not that much fun.
which ran just fine on my 400. I really don't see this need to have faster and faster machines just because you are getting impatient with how long sometime takes to load. Remember, suzy in the phone center doesn't need anything over 800x600x256 and that will cut down the system drain by a lot. It isn't like she will be using anything more than database querrys and maybe word, which both work just fine in this environment.
my best beer + upgrade story was a friend dropped a chip into the pizza and went to clean it with my beer. I was pissed at him for using my beer and the owner was pissed because it frigged up the machine.
Also, when drunk, dont' EVER under ANY circumstances use a sharp knife for a screwdriver, THEY DON'T WORK THAT WELL, and you can put it through your hand easily (as I found out the hard way).
Also, the computer doesn't want any beer, no matter how much you think it does. NEVER, EVER feed your computer beer, it doesn't need it and is probly too young for it anyways.
nah, actually I build computers regularly while somewhat intoxicated. Never have I run into a problem doing it yet either. Only thing I have to say is don't mistake a knife for a screwdriver, you can have some serious problems then, but with the current board layouts out there it isn't even a challange. Just be a bit more careful than usual. I remember when no jumper settings were shown on the board, you had to know what it was by memory and not by looking. Worst case I have ever seen the board had jumpers to tell the system how much memory there was and how fast it was. Stupid thing was a pain in the ass.
I got this working, but the ATI AIW 128 had to be the primary video card or it wouldn't work. But when I did it my Voodoo 4 wouldn't play UT properly so I scrapped the whole thing and left the Voodoo 4 as my only video card in there and just swapped cards whenever I want to use the TV functionality.
The sad thing is that by the time I hear mention of an anime on slashdot I have already seen it and passed on to new and better things (not always both at the same time). I would love to be able to get Japanese TV piped to my house but I just don't have that option here. So, instead I have to use my bandwidth to see if something is good or not. Last peice of anime that I cared about its US release was Jin-Roh, everything else I have already either seen and purchased import or just totally didn't care about it. For those of you who are really into the anime scene and want to see the anime that is supposed to be good before it gets licensed over here I suggest that you check out fansubs. A good reference for fansubs would be: http://www.fansubs.net forgive my lack of using HTML for it but I don't know the tags needed to make that act like a link so just copy and paste or retype it.
It is just as newsworthy as almost anything else posted here. The only difference is that it is in a catigory that you might not find newsworthy. Just as I don't find many things Linux or gaming related to be newsworthy. It is all in the eye of the beholder. Also, I bet that nothing worth while happened lately in the Linux world so they needed something to fill the void created by a lack of Linux news or things to bash Microsoft with.
I might remind you that diskettes are round also, they just happen to have a squarish casing. you might also remember. It really is K for magnetic and C for optical.
I would have to say Lupin III: In memory of Walther P-38 and Lupin III Dark Order of Assassination were both better movies. Though this is just my opinion, not to mention I haven't seen Akira in probly 6 or 7 years because I didn't want to watch it again after the 4th time. You might also try almost anything by Hayao Miyazaki (Porco Roso, Nausicaa of the valley of the wind, Laputa, My Neighbor Tortoro, and many others). The Hell Teacher Nube movie was also more entertaining. You should also check out Jin-Roe.
If you really liked Akira you should definately check out the manga for it (should be available in the US, don't know who has the rights though if it is. I don't read much in the way of comics or spend much time looking at what ones are out in the US)
I never said those were on the CD, all but Lupin III weren't even announced to have be in existance at the time I made my CD (yes there was a little lupin on it, don't remember which ones were though). I was just giving examples of what people should look for as a wide variety instead of the anime that gets released here on TV or becomes mainstream. Most of the Lupin III movies are licensed over here, (either as Lupin III or as Rupin III depending on who is releaseding them) however it would be nice to see the TV Lupin brought over.
Bubblegum Crisis is one of the series that got me hooked on anime back in '89 or '90. I didn't like the new TV series they did of it (BGC 2040) or the sequil series (Bubblegum Crash) or the prequil ADPolice Stories (though it was probly the best of the 3 series that spawned from bubblegum crisis).
I have seen all of these, they are great suggestions, and I will put them in a list of suggestions for other people to watch. However, they all meet the requirement for not being eligable for a sampler CD/DVD, and that is they are licensed over here. But it does give me an idea of what I need to find to reach a wider audience (as most of those are classics and people wind up making more series a lot like them). I would hate to distribute rips of stuff available over through normal channels.
Evangelion is probly one of the shows that I liked the least. I think I liked it about as much as I liked Sailor Moon (which was pretty little). It almost made me stop watching anime all together (the only thing that didn't stop me was that I knew that there were redeming anime shows out there, such as Hell Teacher Nube and such) I swear, NGE was probly the last time I watched any of the shows they brought over. It really gets on my tits when someone suggests this as the best anime series ever or anywhere close to it. There is no best series, and there is no worst series out there.
The shows I suggest for someone to take a look at (infact I had made a sampler CD of fansubbed anime episodes that covered a wide range of shows) are Kanon, Mahororomatic, Noir, Love Hina, Onegai Teacher, Nadesico, Tiny Snow Fairy Sugar, Final Fantasy Unlimited, Read or Die (OVA series, not a TV show), and Lupin III. It is best to find the genre that you like best and the style that you like best and sample a bit of each show (maybe watch and episode or two of each series then decide what you think is best for you. I should update my sampler CD as it is pretty old and was full of real media encodes, and can't remember what was on it as I don't have the CDs any more.
Personally when i have to say what my favorite show is, I usually wind up picking Kanon or Hell Teacher Nube. Although, I am leaning towards a new show called.hack//sign which has really been entertaining as much as I have seen of it. Also, if you are looking for some of the best shows that were brought over here I suggest Bastard!, Love Hina (being brought over), Jin-Roe (sp?), and Goldenboy.
I have yet to figure out why so many people seem to like Kenshin, NGE, and Dragon Ball, and gundum. If anyone knows please tell me as I have yet to figure out why the masses trend towards these shows, and it would help me to create a better sampler (as finding similar shows is like shooting fish in a barrel, and most are still available as a fansub). Also, would like to know what everyone else would suggest I put in a sampler to try to turn people on to anime.
No, this is not like that at all. First off, there are many types of film that Kodak makes. C-41 is the one that you see almost everywhere (because to do the other types (B&W, ektachrome, and probly a few that i haven't ever seen) you need a different set of chemicals). This is more like Seattle Studios saying that you can't have the set of chemicals (or rather the formulas for them as it is a different mix than C-41 and screws up our machines and the film itself (just as the other types will, only put C-41 through a C-41 bath)). As far as I know Kodak doesn't make film that REQUIRE a certain Kodak only bath to process, as doing that makes it very unpopular and hence not profitable. Kodak, Fuji, and Konica are the main people who produce the chemicals photo developing (and they sell it under a few different labels too) as well as the film for it. So really your argument isn't applicable.
Wow, one of my favorite movies is on that list. I am surprised The Adventures of Baron Munchausen didn't do better. and Cutthoat Island was pretty good too. Now i will agree, Santa Clause - The Movie sucked major ass, and needed to fail.

sure, it will fit in with most of the rest of the society that is old enough to drink. physically old enough, but still mentally young.

just steal someones thumb. and when the clerk asks you if that is your real thumb just tell them to do their job, and don't mind you.
