that still means 100% of the profit comes from Playstation, though. If Playstation makes $100M, and the total profit is $50M, than 100% of that comes from Playstation, no?
Amen to that. We don't need no stinkin' Microsoft. My desk has a PowerMac, a Dreamcast, a PS2 and a GameCube on it right now. That's the way it ought to be.
No they don't. Anyway, WTF is "streaming MPEG2" other than television? Macs come with an MPEG2 decoder in the shape of Apple DVD Player, incorporating MPEG2 playback into QT Player - while desirable - will attract futher fees from the MPEG LA if included. Windows can't do it either without separate software.
it doesn't even support ALL of the native Windows Media codecs. It's really fucking shoddy. Having said that, at least there IS one (hello Real? where is your OSX player please?)
I'd second all of that. Bear in mind that QuickTime cannot just offer blanket support for MPEG2 without attracting a licensing fee from MPEG LA, and bear in mind too that QY OPlayer is an infinitely more capable application than Media Player or Real player.
wrong. MSFT's "pre-standardised MPEG-4" implementation was nothing of the sort. It was MSFT's PITCH for the simple profile video codec. It was rejected (despite being ather good), so MSFT started touting it around as MPEG-4 with the specific intention of confusing the market before MPEG-4 had been standardised. MPEG LA eventually took steps to end their shenanigans, but damage was done. DivX - right now- are doing the same shit with their awful version 5. if you're going to use a proprietry codec like DivX, why not use a good one like WinMedia 8, Real 9 or Sorenson Video 3.1?
you're a total fucking retard - why the fuck don't you just save the DVD disc image on your HD? If I REALLY want a disc and can't or won't buy it, that's what I do - why bother encoding with shiity DivX which will ALWAYS lower the quality of your master. 7 CDs? 650MB x 7 = 4.44GB. You must be very young or very stupid to be this highly impressionable.
stop spreading this misinformation. DivX is your ENEMY, not your friend. It's non-standards based, low quality and INCREDIBLY expensive for developers. Ignore DivX, use MPEG1 or REAL MPEG4 (such as included with QuickTime 6 - not free). DivX is total shit.
rebadged? mine has Pioneer written quite clearly on the flap, and System Profiler tells me plainly that it's a Pioneer DVR-103. Apple aren't pretending that they make it, "Superdrive" just gets the point across that it can read CD-ROM and DVD-ROM, and that it can write CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R and DVD-RW. And anyway, it IS super!
"How do I divide a Meter into three equal parts?" Easy, divide by three. BR>How do I divide a Foot into ten equal parts? Come on, your argument is totally spurious. Sure, base 12 is just wonderful - but only PARTS of the imperial system ARE base 12. Feet and inches are great for carpentry, but fuck-all use for science and engineering. Going Metric makes a lot of sense. If the British can see that, it can't be too difficult for Americans, can it?
nope, DVD+RW IS the risky option, and certainly not as widely compatible as the DVD-R and DVD-RW formats that Pioneer support. I yet to find a machine that can't handle my DVD-R discs, and the media now costs us less than £3 Sterling per disc ($5?). DVD-R is a solid format, and I'd highly recommend it.
online storage? Surely DVD-Rs are offline storage? I have a "superdrive" (a Pioneer DVR-103) in my Mac and it's just wonderful - great for backups, never found it to be incompatible in any DVD-ROM drives either. Pisses all over my previous solution (Jazz) and is significantly faster than DAT. Great low cost solution on the Mac, no idea about other platforms - although my DVD-Rs read just fine under Win2K and XP. And I can make DVD videos too!
nah, the developer usually will replace the media as you have purchased a license to use the software rather than the physical medium itself. I had a fire a few years back and lost a considerable amount of software - all the developers I contacted (except MS) replaced my discs once I supplied my registration details, one of them (Equilibrium) sent me a MUCH newer version, too!
i don't think that's fair - because you're ignoring the massive achievement that was Newton. newton was the new "Mac" that Dvorak wants, that Apple couldn't afford to keep it going (who really knows whether they could or not, we do know that steve was very cool towards it) was extremely sad, but the achievement stands. we MAY be about to see elements of Newton come back to life in Ink(well), but no-one yet seems to know how far reaching this might be. I'd urge anyone with a passing interest in computer interface design to find a Newton MP2100 and take a close look at it, it was really a very advanced system.
I'd probably have to pay them to find out, though. And I bet I wouldn't understand the answer when it came - that's the point after all, isn't it?

for goodness' sake - it's NOT CALLED A PS/2!
we're all fuckin crying. AVI != DiivX, BTW. Proper AVI files are still perfectly playable under QT 6.

are also having a tough time together. What is one supposed to make of this:-
"Sony's PlayStation business currently generates around 60% of the firm's profits. That figure has exceeded 100% at times."
Maybe an economist can explain to me what more than 100% is supposd to mean in this context. WTF?
it doesn't even support ALL of the native Windows Media codecs. It's really fucking shoddy. Having said that, at least there IS one (hello Real? where is your OSX player please?)
Cinepak is a fully supported video codec under QuickTime.
I'd second all of that. Bear in mind that QuickTime cannot just offer blanket support for MPEG2 without attracting a licensing fee from MPEG LA, and bear in mind too that QY OPlayer is an infinitely more capable application than Media Player or Real player.
that's 40x MAX, BTW. If you check out Yamaha's range, you'll see that they are well endowed with speed features - partial CAV and everything.
beautiful!
I do now!

doesn't anyone else recall the Apple eMate 300?
Apollo 13... Far and Away... need I go on?

does anyone have a Babelfish handy?
