in a funny way, Apple have ALWAYS had a big influence on web standards simply because so many web designers are working on the Mac. Funnily enough, MS' IE for the Mac was awarded for its good compliance - if only the PC version could boast likewise...
you're just not getting this, are you? xfer rate is NOT the issue, LATENCY is. RAM IS thousands of times faster, if by faster you are meaning latency rather than xfer. Got it? good.
I have a striped pair of Fujitsu MANs on an ATTO UL3D, gives 78MBsec R/W (minimum) and up to 275 when R/Wing to the drives' buffers. That's on a Mac G4 with 64bit PCI and 133Mhz FSB. This small array is used as a (72GB) video DDR, but despite the excellent xfer rates, seek times are still in the 4-8ms range, THOUSANDS of time slower than a RAM disc. THAT'S the solid-state advantage.
well done! you've just reinvented a standard MacOS feature AGAIN! Quick, inform Mr Gates immediately! Yep, us Mac users have been enjoying the benefits of RAM disks and persisitent RAM disks for YEARS - is the rest of the world about to notice again?
"I think there was a PPC 760. Low power version of the 750." I think that one was the 755. My Yosemite G3 450 has a 750L, overclocked (with extreme ease) to 550Mhz. My Sawtooth dual 450 is fitted with a pair of 7400s, and my Mystic 733 with the somewhat disappointing 7450. Roll on G5! I want to see Apple back on top!
spot-on. We use 2 x 22inch Misubishis on each of our Avid set-ups. To be comfortable over long periods, your straight ahead eye level should be at or around the top edge of the screen. With larger screen, that means setting the screen down below you desk/kbd level. Works out great, just make sure you have no lights above and behind you:-]
there is every chance that your Samsung is the same panel as Apple's 17incher, as Samsung is Apple's LCD supplier. Bet you don't get the Apple Disply connector though:-[ still, you save what $150?
what? it IS only a 22inch widescreen. That means it has less image height than a normal 20inch CRT. If you sit 10ft away, you won't see shit - especially as its 200ppi whih means your Win2k icons, buttons and text are gonna be SMALL
G400s (or 450s) are great until you try anything with OpenGL. Very poor. Radeon boards have a RAMDAC ALMOST as sharp as the G400, and decent 3D performance too. And then there's the GeForce 3...
"I'm sure I missed a few in there, especially the Apple ones" No, you didn't. Apple don't use these stoopid terms. Incidentally, the Apple Cinema Display - also 22 inch but 1600x1024res - is VERY good value compared to this. There is also a Samsung 24 inch TFT available, and don't forget the 17inch SGI display which is EXTREMELY good value (same res as the Apple), but a fair bit smaller. Did anyone else notice that the display use 4 960x2400 stripes - using ONE stripe for VGA? That sure could look crap.
that's NOT a deterioration, that's an improvement. the next stage is a bout of super Mario Kart, the stage after that is wip3out in link up mode and the last stage to social interaction is rolling Tekken tournament. after that you are fit to re-enter society - or an arcade, whichever you prefer.
fit into what? why would you let someone like me in anyway, no-one turned up again? face it, you might as well end it all if your love of your computer has reached the point where you have to take it to parties with you. go out, get a life.
your ideogram renders in beautiful Kanji characters in Omniweb 4.05 under Mac OSX. HTML email should never have been born - some dick sent me red text on a black background today. I choose to read my ASCII messages in Mail.app under OSX which uses Quartz to render text in Apple's gorgeous new version of Lucida Grande. Nice.
you clearly don't understand basic English rules. "email" should be pronounced "eemail", the vowel after the m hardens the e. Same reason I always read Linux as "Line-ucks" even though I know it's roots are not English at all.
no-one uses a Mac? this story has shown just how ENORMOUS the number of LINUX desktop installs has become. Shit! At this rate, LINUX desktops worldwide will overtake the Mac sometime after the sun has collapsed into a red fuckin dwarf. Cunts. My business (46 employess) has 29 Mac, 1 SCO, 19 PC installs. What the fuck would we need shitty LINUX for?
I was using MAE (Macintosh Application Environmet) under solaris 5 YEARS ago. Unlike this MOL crap, you didn't need Mac hardware to make it work. Why the fuck would anyone want to run OS9 on an Apple non-natively. This article just proves once and for all that geeks WANT Macs, they just won't admit it until they find a way to hack the fuck out of it. Stupid twats. Get a life, get a Mac and a girlfriend.
they are (with the possible exception of eBay) the most unaccountable and uncontactable organisation on the planet. Fucking PENDING, these pricks have got $300 of my money right now which I have been trying to get back for over a month. It's fucking organised crime. SHUT THEM DOWN.
strangely enough, I think Apple actually DID patent "Themes" ie the concept of coordinated color schemes, font sets and sound sets. I have no idea whether they've attempted to exercise this yet, but the MS payoff may have had a lot to do with that particular patent.
unless those "bonehead execs" signed up without reference to a lawyer, it MUST have been just plain bad legal advice. If they really did sign without taking advice (you can bet MS didn't draft the contract themselves), then they deserve everything they got. Whether the world deserved the consequences is another thing entirely.
if "aluminum" is correct, then why not "Titanum" and "Barum" too? We give you the gift of English, and this is how you repay us!
don't be dumb, a twin G4 450 would totally shred it! let alone a twin G4 800...

don't forget that IBM are actually in the GPU business. I think the FireGL line is powered by IBM GPUs. It certainly USED to be...
I meant a "NORMAL" 4:3 20 inch CRT - I've never seen a 20 inch WS CRT, only 24 inchers

no-one came to your LAN party and you were surprised? why not try washing? fucking geeks make me laugh - what is this site, Revenge of the Nerds?

care to point me in the direction of a shit-hot LINUX video editing solution? thought not. geek twat
