correctamundo - the undisclosed sum is probably not unadjacent to the 4 odd billion Apple have in the bank. If you add up their profits/losses over the past five years, it's kind of difficult to see where else that cash could have come from.
I still maintain that "hell" could not be construed as foul language, as it could hardly cause offence. What the HELL are you people afraid of? one of the major reasons that TV land is so divorced from reality is the almost totally unrealistic way people are forced to speak. If a person isn't allowed to curse, how on Earth are you going to convincingly portray anger? hell just ISN'T a curse in this universe.
does it really count as chording when you hold one KBD button and make a mouse click? don't think the piano metaphor works there. macs give nice pointer feedback with modifiers, so you get a little menu graphic when you modify for contextual menus etc etc
"I don't know a single person who thinks having one button is better," hello! my name is Alan, i think the single button mouse + modifier keys is a FAR better solution than four buttons plus a scroll wheel like the Intellimouse Exploder I use at work. My Apple Pro Mouse doesn't creak when squeezed, and has adjustable click pressure too. I never liked multi button mice, although I have always been fairly impressed by the quality of the Kensington Turbomouse trackball, and I think that has four programmable buttons.
don't be an idiot, they've got 2000 coders working on OSX - full-time professionals rather than a bunch of hobbyists. Sure Apple are trying to make money, that's why they haven't canned half their workforce like HP/Compaq et al. What does OSX cost? Public Beta cost me £25, 10.0 cost another £75 (although it came with £70 worth of OS9), and this upgrade looks like it'll run me another £20. So, I end up paying £120 for OS9 + OSX 10.1. Is that really a rip-off?
I KNOW! I accidentally overheard one of my colleagues phone calls once. I HAVE STARED IN HORROR AT THE RPG ABYSS. Scares the shit out of me, grown men dribbling on like slurpy-rush five year olds. SHUDDER.
could someone arrange for all RPG related posts to be instantaneously transferred back to the RPG dimension whence the came? it's absolute gibberish these fools talk. THEY NEED PSYCHOLOGICAL HELP THESE FEAKS, THEY HAVE DISEASED BRAINS.
that MUST be nonsense, or how would my car generate so much lift? at over 100mph, I can feel distict lightness at the unloaded rear, you theory would suggest that the hood/windscreen would create a load of downforce, rather than the lift I experience. I think you're way wrong here.
unfortunately not, leaving aside driver issues, ther's plenty of reasons why OSX's vector graphics can't be ultra-accelerated at the moment. If you have never seen OSX, Quartz will amaze you. It is magnificent in concept but immature in implementation. Expect improvements.
Have you ever noticed how much MacOS system software costs? In the UK the latest version typically runs about £70, and has done ever since I can remember. OSX is more like £100. Apple DO NOT charge for updates, if you're referring to OSX10.1 being charged for well, how would you do it? This "UPDATE" will be around 1GB of data - even I would hesitate to kick off a 1 gig download from a public site, that's just asking for trouble. If I have to pay Apple £25 to get OSX10.1 on a CD, I'm game. that would mean that I would have paid a total of £120 for OS 9.1, OSX 10.0, OSX Developer tools and OSX 10.1 over the last 10 months. Real discs, bootable, documented. how can that be bad value?
Gaddafi is a dictator, try to remember that. So is Castro, although the USA's position on Cuba is outrageous. Unfortunately, the USA can no longer accuse other states of undemocratic regimes since the presindency was stolen by Bush Jr. If he starts WWIII, you Americans will be to blame for letting him get away with it.
take care of WHAT once and for all? the problem of terrorism will NEVER go away. In the UK we've been putting up with this shit for over 30 years, the most intelligent people in the country can't figure out a negotiated settlement for Northern Ireland, the best that they can apparently do is let the terrorists that are in jail go free, and tie the combatants up in negotiations for the rest of time. It won't work of course, but it may save lives in the mean time. Witness the idiots scaring school children to death because they walked down the "wrong" road on their way to school. And the best part of all is that there is implicit support for Irish republican terror groups by the USA in the form of the continuing existence of NORAID. God alone knows how the USA can justify that or, worse still, the continuing existence of the state of Israel, a state seemingly FOUNDED on the basis of intolerance. If the USA really cared about terrorism and international law, they'd get involved in the UN, re-run the (stolen) presidential election and admit the mistakes of the past. Now would be a good time to reconsider Cuba too, another continuing outrage commited in the name of "Freedom".
man, if you've got SEVEN computers, you really ought to rack them and use some KVM switching. You can also cool them more efficiently that way as well as providing better security and power supply. Keep your desk nice with your screens, kbd, mse and whatever cradle-like peripherals you need. Two's a couple, three's a crowd but SEVEN's a FARM.
are you yakeemericons aware that obesity decreases levels of male Testosterone. Current predictions indicated that American males will become completely sterile when they ALL weigh more than 200KG. Around 2008, I think it was.
seriously, in a few weeks time you'll be able to buy the cheapest iMac with OSX 10.1 installed. Stick Omniweb in there and you've already got the best OS/web combination ever designed. Pleasetry it if you don't believe me, Omniweb is THAT good, and OSX WILL be the best OS ever real soon now.

it's a pretty easy call when the theme is described as Aqua-like by the designer! Doh!

surely that's a CLASSIC American look - a pair of photoreactive glasses should finish the ensemble nicely...
a used porche? how does that work then? you just sit in the rocking chair whittling a stick and the chicks come flocking?
have you been living on the moon? MSFT most certainly DO make hardware - get ready for the X-Box onslaught sucker.
"nothing more than rearranging bits, an operation that never killed anybody" DID IN STAR TREK
was the NFA the body that prevented the widespread adoption of the SPORK?
hey! public Key crypto was invented in Britain you arrogant buggers, just like every-bloody-thing else
I use mine for those stubborn stains that ordinary detergents leave behind

the reason they use Macs is that they've got WORK to do, and can't spend three weeks trying to work out why their graphics card drivers don't work.
