I just had a look at iTunes memory usage on my G5 (10.3.7) while playing an AAC - 20.08MB, CPU load 1.08%. Not exactly the end of the world, is it? Firefox gobbles up 35MB and 1.2% CPU displaying a static page.
Oh come on, do you think IBM just threw away all of their prior designs when they mapped out the Cell? If those SPEs aren't largely based on the existing PowerPc family vector unit designs I'll eat my hat.
Sure it'll be different to Power 3, 4 and 5. More different than the MPC 74XX is to the PPC 601? Maybe not.
Wait and see, there's no reason whatsoever to believe that Apple will use Cell yet - though there's plenty of good arguments to be made for them doing so.
I agree. Furthermore, surely it is the MOON that holds greatest promise for new telescope designs, the far side being so effectively shielded from Earth's EM glare. Imagine a Very Large Array installation on the far side of the moon - what we might see!
On the contrary, we KNOW that it is human activity that's released the CO2 into the atmosphere therefrore we KNOW that whatever the 'natural' cycle in atmospheric CO2 is, we have disrupted it. Extent of the effect is important, but the basic issue is whether our actions have ANY global effect, and we KNOW that they do.
Well, as we've fucked up the Earth already, we'd better start terraforming Mars ASAP. If we're content to render hundreds of Earth species extinct, I don't see it makes sense to be precious about a few Martian bacteria.
Yes. Though the star would have to be VERY close for the effect to be meaningful. The Sun throws highly charged particles at us constantly, our magnetic field ensures that most of them don't scorch our planet's surface.

Yes!
Re-insert your head into the beach.
Care to explain away the correlation between the dramatic rise in atmospheric CO2 and average temperature?
Every child of six knows that GW Bush is one of the lizard people. Ask David Icke, he knows...
He wrote "The Andromeda Strain" and "Jurassic Park", too! He was damned sure right about both of those subjects!

Your sig is phrased very poorly.
Yep, that's faster. It's not "much faster" though, is it?
"but you run it on a chip with a clock rate that is much faster than Risc chips manage,"
My PowerMac G5 runs at 2.5Ghz - how fast do Opterons scale up to now?
"Archiving in film is still the absolute highest quality you can achieve."
Nope.
"Scanning it once does not deteriorate the analog copy for later scanning."
Yes, it does. Scanning usually involves physical damage and dye fading.
Definitely.
The only realistic answer is that they OWN their kids.
We've been using digital tape with huge capacities for over a decade, thanks.
540MB? Was that some kind of low capacity CD-R? They've been at least 650MB for as long as I can remember.
I hate verbing, but the verb "to game" has been around for at least a century.
Aled? Are you Welsh?
Not offtopic at all.
An answer "begs the question" when it undermines the question's premise. To "beg the question" DOES NOT MEAN "to pose the question".
Yes, if we let them.

Better an AK-47 to the back of the head that a 500lb bomb through the fucking roof.
EVOLVE you schmuck.
Everything is not a fucking verb.
And it's MICE!
