    At this point, there are far more people who would be interested in GTK+ for using with GNOME than GIMP.

    Taken from gtk.org:
    GTK+ was initially developed for and used by the GIMP, the GNU Image Manipulation Program. Therefore, it is named "The GIMP Toolkit", so that the origins of the project are remembered. Today GTK+ is used by a large number of applications, and is the toolkit used by the GNU project's GNOME desktop.

    You can see how it's really moving to GNOME more.

    First, probably most important too, Darwin is not a GPL product. It's licensed under the ASPL, which isn't really a open source license. Second, Darwin hasn't had x86 supported for very long, and is probably still not optimized for it.

    Most obvious, HURD has been around way longer than darwin, so switching now would be kinda dumb.

    This is not intended to say "don't bother with security because it's a lost cause". Security is a issue where the hacker always wins though. Even OpenBSD is possible to hack via the SSH exploit. So keep up with the updates, but dont think you're immune.

    There aren't any compusa stores in japan, therefore the compusa-theft-protocol is not legal to implement on a japan device do to export regulations.

    Companies are planning to create a mod-chip for the device, but because it's fair use, sony will sue them according to the DMCA.

    AOL's servers were SGI machines running IRIX, now it will probably be SGI machines running Linux. I don't know if it was a desktop or server change though.

    True, with aol, the Netscape/Mozilla market will be larger than MSIE. Kind of a scary though for Microsoft. With the domination and superiority, IE will go down even more. GO MOZILLA! :-)

    GTK was originally made for GIMP, but scince the GNOME project decided to adopt it, GTK+ has become part of the GNOME project.

    If you're not willing to go to any effort, why should the Gnome project worry about you?

    Perhaps if you dowloaded all the rpms yourself and formed them into 1, then setup a ftp server for other like-minded people, you'd be more help.

    I don't use RedHat at all, I use Slackware which hasn't had a major security hole in more time than I've been using it. How do you know the attempted hacks were 0wn3d machines? How would your MIPS processor help against security holes? From what I understand Irix is fairly insecure, or at least was in the past.

    How people are registered is one thing, but if 80% of the people on slashdot voted Libertarian, he probably would have got doulbe the vote (j/k).

    If I recall right, the results from "who do you want president", and "who will you vote for" were quite different.

    No, I don't belive Democrats help common men, that's just their political "platform". It's been wrong all along, but perhaps Slashdot will wake up now that it's effecting us harshly.

    Which means you're an ultra-liberal. I can tell you this, Fox news is not conservative. You're just off the spectrum. Fox news does have some shows that are conservative, but there's no real twist on the news like you get with CNN.

    Slashdot, as can be found out by looking at the Presidental poll from the 2000 election, is mostly democrat. Yet, the bad guy in SSSCA is a democrat, and the Republicans for the most part think the bill would wrong the American public.

    Republicans help big business! Democrats help the common man! Perhaps we should re-evaluate their views.

    I don't think many people have multiple IP addresses. Hey, there's 9 people in my family, and we use 1 address. I'm sure that in many other american families, the story is similar. Also, regular users generally connect to a dynamic network, and aren't on 24/7.

    The entire internet contains 251 * 254 * 254 * 254 (4.113153e+09) This doesn't include 10.*.*.* or 192.*.*.* or 127.*.*.*

    Would it make sense for there to be more than twice the number of routers, dns servers, mail servers, and web servers than internet users?

    First, there's over 6 billion people in the world, not 5 billion, so the 10% figure is a little off.

    A 32 bit number (ipv4 address are 32 bits) can have 4 billion numbers in it. With the 10.*.*.* (16 million) and 192.168.*.* (65 thousand), there's less, and of course we have routers... so if we have only 200 addresses available on each subnet, we get 1.6 e+09.

    That makes 1,600,000,000 1 billion, 600 million. If we really have a problem with too few IP addresses, there's a lot more than 490 million internet users.

    I was making a reply, to an idea that somehow this worm is going to spread all over the place because it's well documented, etc. I'm not running a corporate network, so I don't worry about it.

    Let's see here, who wrote ISS? The same people who think you shouldn't publicize bugs EVER. ISS is insecure because Microsoft doesn't care, not because they are proud, or because administrators are lazy.

    Most worms scan for nt and ISS. I get like 100 a week trying to load NT files, and I'm running Apache on Linux. The hacker world would rather beat more simple targets like Windows than go for something complicated like SSH on Linux.

    Christians, (not just people who go to church and don't say bad words) will give spiritual fruit, and be accepted into heaven, and live forever with God. Non-Christians in the return of Jesus Christ, or when they die will not be bearing fruit, and they will be cast into hell.

    Don't wait until you are old and on your death bed to make things right with God, you do not know when you will die.

    If the unsaid company would generate their project GPL'd, at least the product would be free. I agree that messing up the code like that is really bad. If it can't be compiled, I think they will be sued.
