Hammer will knock it out. AMD is planning on actually getting 64bit processors to desktops, instead of just that machine in the back of the server room. Btw, $3400 is too much to pay for a junky 700mhz that can't even stand up to a Athlon 4.
Truth is, for most things, the AMD 1.4ghz is faster than a Intel 2.2ghz (overclocked 2ghz). And of course, on everything but windows, everything is faster. Maybe we could come up with processor numbers based more on how well they benchmark? Make sure you test more than just Photoshop, as to not make the Mac users too happy:-)
Everyone knows Corel's Linux distribution didn't really make it that well. But Many people who want a office suite better than Abiword end up getting Wordperfect 2000. Also they will probably be getting linux.corel.com in the deal. Consumers will probably still think they are buying from Corel.
I think you got it backwards, we have no evidence that there is water on mars, but there has been ice discovered on the moon already. Get your facts straight before you go on a long rant.
First off, Gnome and KDE don't look like windows, second Gnome and KDE aren't your only options.
The biggest point is probably that Linux is faster, and it doesn't cost anything. Meaning, you can download it, and practically everything made for it is free. OSX costs $129 (which isn't bad compared to windows, but it's still high)
Well, wake up, not everyone lives in California.
Besides that, odds are that the power line is used for internet, not the actual power, it might even speed things up with the power out:-)
I just helped a freind of mine (Mac user scince age 3)
setup YDL 2.0, things worked out pretty nice. I was impressed
Best thing there is... until Slackware makes a PPC version:-)
Now they're going to make everyone take AIDS drugs, and these AIDS drugs will give more people AIDS then it will prevent. Then people in the US will be forced to take the pills also, nowhere will be safe.
Though I disagree with a patent on a drug (drugs are parts of plants, created by God and therefore God owns all the rights to them), I'd very much like to see this patent hold, and I hope those swiss want to keep it all to themselves.
Am I the only one who doesn't like the fact that they are selling "dvd writers" that only write 4.7gb? dvd's are capable of holding 17gb. You wouldn't have bought a cd writer if it only held 150mb would you?

The PII and PIII are identical in architecture (until coppermine), so, who cares if it was a PII or a PIII, for that matter, who cares if it's Intel?

Linux today had this article over a week ago. Slashdot really is lagging behind...
