  1. Re:Guitarists, no. Bassists, yes! on Gibson Guitars and Ethernet · · Score: 1

Yeah, then you get to a gig, and the sound guy sets up an ornate mic rig to capture the pure essence of the beautiful tone your guitar player has achieved with his classic gear.

... and then hands you a D/I box so he can bugger with your bass sound at the board until it sounds like HE wants it.

I like a snappy bass sound. Any recordings I heard from the board at any gig has had this big thumpy thumpy bass mush.

I have never ever met a sound guy that has asked me what I want the bass to sound like, or even cared. Nice new gear or not (I'm active, parametric EQ onboard, etc etc) it sounds like the same old crap thanks to unimaginative sound guys.

    Shouldn't be verbed?

    Why not? Verbing weirds words.

    (Sorry, Calvin.)

  3. Re:Asimov on Science Fiction into Science Fact? · · Score: 2, Informative

Nope, Misfit is about a math-whiz who steps in when a calculating computer fails, but the story is based on the fact that he is calculating massive amounts of equations in his head, not that he did math longhand, or that he even knew how.

He's on an asteroid that they are moving, and the computer directing the jets dies. He steps in and starts dictating the firing times for the various bursts needed to put the asteroid in the new orbit.

It's a story about a savant, not just someone who could do math.

Sorry, not any new information, but should save one false lead.

What do you do if you don't have a successful harvest?

    Same thing we always do:
    1) Bitch about the how government income support for farmers isn't enough
    2) fill out our NISA forms. (goverment hand-out forms for farmers who have a bad year)
    3) spend the winter in florida

When I was making up training exercises for the Canadian Forces, we had two lists of "preapproved" words.

Choose one from column A, one from column B. Voila, exercise name.

"Ex Rabid Badger" was my favorite.

I love my Marble FX. (My kids think it's much easier than a mouse)

They don't sell them anymore, though. I picked up a spare for $30 in the bargain bin at Office Depot...

Work just provided me with a TrackMan Marble Wheel, and I'm quite fond of it, too. The only thing you have to move to do /anything/ is the tip of your thumb.
