It is actually just a ploy to destroy Gizmodo. Apple told the engineer to leave the prototype in the bar in hopes for someone to "steal" it and deliver it to the hands of their nemesis.
If you wanna sum up, then you should sum up the times the license is used. And in the long run GPL might come ahead as it will always keep scoring 3 points whereas BSD will score 0 points once it gets closed by some vendor.
Or instead of thinking what the license gives to the developer, maybe we should give more value on what it gives to the user. With GPL the user will always get the same rights as the developer had, with BSD they can be taken away.
Also BSD does have nasty limitations, it forces me to retain a copyright notice and other things. Public domain type of license could contain even more freedom.
I am sure SUV manufacturers also own cars and drive with them? So it is like Google (SUV manufacturer) and random smaller websites (the other drivers).
Yes, I was aware of those things, but here instead you just set the recording time on both the digibox and the VCR and both turn on at the same time, the digibox changes to the correct channel and the VCR then records it via SCART (composite signal usually). Just means you need to set the recording time twice, not a biggie.
The article is assuming you rewrite the whole drive but there is a faster way to destroy a SSD. What I have seen is that a 64GB SSD drive usually has 64GB available to the user, not 64GiB (this is how much it actually has flash memory). The difference in sizes is used for write leveling and reallocating faulty cells. So the fastest way to destroy this kind of flash is first write 64GB to it and then keep rewriting the same small area continously. The write leveling cannot use already allocated 64GB area, so the writes all go to the area between 64GB and 64GiB (4.719GB or 4719476736B). This can be used up much faster than 51 years. At 80MB/s writes, you reach 100.000 rewrites to all of the cells in 68 days and million rewrites in two years. And SSDs are faster then 80MB/s nowadays so maybe you can kill your SSD in a month to a year. Ofcourse this is obviously not even close to a realistic "normal" usage on a SSD.
Are the DVRs in US so dumb that they don't allow the user to set the channel and recording time manually? It shouldn't be to difficult to check when the show is airing and setting the VCR to record that, though if the VCR doesn't have digital reciever, then one might have to set timer on both the VCR and the digibox. Atleast that is how it is done here.
Sure we can determine what is moral and what is immoral. I decide what is moral and immoral, and so do you. And we are both right. Now, if we live in a society where we are depended on each other, we need to negotiate on what morals we agree upon. Ofcouse this means there is no innate right or wrong, but why should there be.
Actually it makes sense to me and I think that is/should be the idea behind patents. You cannot (shouldn't be able to) single idea like 'multi-touch', instead you should be able to patent 'multi-touch that uses capasitive screen technology' and another company can patent 'multi-touch with resistive screeen' and another with 'infrared' and so on. That is how it should be, but with software patents and their like, companies seem to be able to patent 'a method of using device with more then one finger' and that is wrong in my mind.
Did some quick googling and found out that Apple's multitouch patent was filed September 25, 2008 whereas this competing patent (US Patent no. 5,825,352) was filed 02/28/1996. Both seem to be reasonably legitimate patents at a glance.
I recall that Apple only has method patent for multi-touch, they don't have hardware level patent for it. Maybe this other company has something of that sorts.
This is why we should punish them back and always use kibigrams (Kig), debiliters (Dil), nabiseconds (Nis) etc. Preferrably mix these with traditional 10-based SI prefixes and add couple furlongs and LoCs just for fun.
Yeah, that silly pagination is really irritating and usually just causes me to jump to the conclusions page. I probably wouldn't block their ads if they had a synopsis page with content related ad and then a button that allows me to read the whole article in one single page. They should even sell that button for sponsors, stamp nice AMD logo on the button and maybe even put some kind of footer ad on the end of the whole page article with 'This article was sponsored by the new AMD hyper-mega-super-GPU, read more here -> '.
This works only if the automatic transmission allows you to switch to neutral. But yes, people should be tought what to do to stop an out of control car as safely as possible.
I don't think the OS needs any kind of fast media for boot. Just boot from USB stick or similar and set the Fusion-IO as root device. The USB stick will be fast enough to transfer the 20-40MB that are required to load the kernel.
Doesn't look very much like supercooled water. Atleast two details are missing. First, if it was supercooled, I would assume condensed water droplets on the surface of the bottle, or frost. Also, if it actually was frozen water, the bottle should expand as the ice takes up more volume than liquid water. It most likely is sodium acetate dissolved into water.

I would think driving a bus while texting or eating would be even more dangerous.
Maybe to feel younger again?

That is an amazing idea, I am sure the toll road authority hopes to do just this.

Yes, but I would hate if that analogy was used to support metered internet usage.
Before using that analogy remember that some toll roads already charge you more if you have a bigger vehicle and people seem to think that is ok.

But seaweed is quite common ingredient, uuh, now I want those 100-200yen onigiris. Damn you!

This might explain some of the problems with it http://www.sqlhacks.com/pmwiki.php/Dates/Timestamp
Basicly MSSQL timestamp aint a timestamp.

Humm, does the patent really apply if you just distribute a H.264 encoded video but not decode it in any way?

Was that port almost like PS2 emulator bundled with the PS2 version of the game?
Wouldn't more legal precedence on BSD mean that it is more difficult to adhere to BSD license and you are more likely to get sued when using it?
