  1. it failed, because it sucked on The Sad Parable of OS/2 · · Score: 1

this will be mod'ed down for troll bait, but sheesh, I used OS/2 and it sucked.

It wasn't stable when you ran many apps, it was too easy to write code that locked the system up, and it was gawd awful to install.

Yeah, I saw the speech rec software for OS/2 ver 4(?). It barely worked.

Yes OS/2 was cool next to DOS and CPM. But it was way behind the Mac and also behind Windows once Win 95 came out.

Ok, so Windows NT, 2000, CE, and XP have this already.

Does OSX inherit this from BSD?

I thought other UNIX's and Windows and OSX already did this.

In fact, I'm surprised that Linux doesn't do it.

This isn't meant to be flame-bait, I'm a newbie in regards to the kernel. But isn't this common technology everywhere else?

You're confusing two products, WinCE and PocketPC.

WinCE runs on many CPU's and comes with source (to look at, not modify)

PocketPC is a flavor of CE with additional stuff thrown in for a specific product. Its now limited to the ARM CPU so software writers don't need multiple binaries to support all the products, HP, Compaq, Toshiba etc

If the CLR is on PocketPC, then this might change

When I read the Netcraft study, it said the Linux folks were there and left when they couldn't get the system running fast enough.

It sounds like the Netcraft study is used for FUD by both sides.

BTW, I wonder how Slashdot would react to VA Linux or Redhat memos being made up or leaked.

Yeah, besides recent Linux FTP and Unix BIND and sendmail problems, among others, why nothing besides MS has problems.

So is this worse than the Linux wu_ftp bug that was hidden by obscurity?

Seems like that was worse since the exploit didn't require user assistance.

Thanks to Red Hat though for telling us so we can patch our machines. Too bad the GPL public review didn't catch that problem for so long. Ditto for Bind, SendMail...

I guess this means you don't care about intellectual property. It's the same old attitude of entitlement, "its on the net, so it must always be free". Although after saying that, I feel copyright laws should only last for a reasonable time of say less than 20 years. That is more than sufficient for the authors to be renumerated while letting the work flow into the public domain as copyright originally was intended to do.
