    Comparing the maximum penalty of one thing with the average penalty of another seems a bit biased, doesn't it? Why not quote the max of both...

    Someone on the other side of your argument could easily quote the 'average' penalty for both, and cite that the former is zero, as no one on record has been sentenced to jail for pirating that crappy movie.

    I'm on your side, just playing Devil's Ad. You could quote facts in an unbiased manner and still be just as convincing.

    The US did not rely on it's friends, but it did get help. If you think you can go it alone, then you're absolutely insane.

    As a former member of special operations (in the US), this point is not lost on me. To the contrary, I thought it was rather obvious. However, the orignal poster was attempting to make the case that the United States Army is in shambles, and wouldn't be anything without relying on "foreign aid". This, as you now, is bullshit... (and probably reflects the views of someone who was !honorably discharged.)

    It scares me a little about this Iraq situation. The Army people now days don't know anything. It's sad I think, and I hope they don't go into war, becouse there heads are so stuck up (we *did* kick ass in afganistan, _but_ with the help of the Birts and Canadians) I could go on more about why I feel this way. But I'll save my breath.
    This is quite possibly the most uninformed statement I've ever read on Slashdot. And... surprise! It's got a score of 5.

    If you honestly think we're relying on the likes of Canada to protect our nation, you are absolutely insane.

    From what I understand, these are developer boards. Not consumer boards. Most embedded system developer boards cost two to ten times this much.

    So you're saying the "Crusoe TM5800 System Development Kit" is a consumer board?

    And are the mobile versions half the cost of the transmeta chip?

    Additionally, if you're looking for higher end right now, choose one of the many mini-itx configurations available. http://www.mini-itx.com is a wonderful site based in the UK. Buy directly from them or use one of the vendors they recommend.

    Sorry Linus , but people developing for tiny platforms can't afford to spend an extra $400-$500 for a Transmeta solution.

    Weird, just five minutes before I read this, I was wondering what ever happened with the One-Click Patent (!) of lore...

    When Amazon started that bullcrap, I switched all my online book-ordering to a comptetitor (bamm.com) and badmouthed them to everyone I know, as did many other geeks who were pissed about it. Then, suddenly, everyone forgot about it. Not long after, tons of weblogs once again started sporting Amazon ads on their site (cough*phpnuke*cough) and totally forgot about the patent idiocy.

    This patent, too, will soon disapper from the headlines and from the minds of the people not long after.

    Okay, let's try this again. Here's the deal: a switch from IRIX to Linux doesn't mean a fucking thing. They've switched from one variant of Unix to another. What was gained in the end? A net gain overall for Unix of not a fucking thing. Zero. A switch from a shackled proprietary OS to an open one is a major shift.
