Blockbusters is a ad hoc definition, so we all have a different one.
To me a blockbuster title is a big budget game that cater to the more popular taste. Is my opinion that only recently the game indistru has started to make real blockbuster games. Everything created before has ben "training", "growing the industry" and exploring what works better to make a blockbuster. It seems the formula has been found, and is a rail shotter like MW2.
Strange not. He is talking about the industry. He say that if you are not already here (on the bioware position), is bad strategy to move to that position, because will probably get you killed.
Lets say the bridge that companies like Bioware have crossed, has burned. Anyway, why I am saying things like this? read the article, or better, assist to these conferences for a direct version and not a second hand one *lowbrownface*
"In the end they probably just want to get a fixed levy an all ISPs. And all blank CDs, DVDs, hard disks, memory cards, diskettes, memo pads, pens, photo cameras, and people with good memory"
thats how it work, here in spain.
these people have "hacked" the system (our social system) to get a profit withouth work.
1) I said websites, flash websites are more expensive than normal websites.
2) HTML can be ugly, but to add content you only need a text editor. Even the most ugly website can be edited and added content with a simple text editor. I can't say that for flash websites, most of then have the.fla files lost, and where designed statically. To change these, you probably need a hex editor...
3) "scrollbar what?". You sure know what is a scrollbar. Flash designers know what a scrollbar, even re-invent it. Most flash websites seems designed to work like frames websited to avoid the scrollbar. Embrace the scrollbar!, is great, and your mouse have a mouse whell for it!.
We know that full flash websites are inferior to html websites. If you want to sell dogs online, and you want to hire a webmaster and you want to make the shop a full flash website, if you have luck, the webmaster that you will hire, will tell you to drop that idea and make a html shop instead. You can ignore that advice, drop the webmaster, and get another merce.. webmaster, that will make a website for you, and only for you, completely in flash.
What make sense for normal websites may make sort of sense for website games. Not everything, of course, but some things.
So the real question is, by doing a full game in flash, what are you limiting yourself? well.. flash is expensive to make, is not flexible to add content. Is also designed (mostly) for the fullscreen thing, read... most flash websites avoid the scroll bar.
So a HTML5 website could exploit these strong points of HTML. And make a webgame with lots of text and images, a integrated wiki, a game that you can browse to get different information that is updated often (as oposed with "often outdated" that you get with flash websites). We have already lots of games like that, OGame, eRepublik, and the like. New type of games can be invented, but using the strong points of html, result on strategy games. Using the strong points of flash, you make casual puzzle and platform games.
I don't think HTML5 will change this much. It can create new type of games, but the existing games seems to work already in flash and html4.
It seems on our culture learning is not a process, is a job for theachers. Theres no importance put on teaching people how to learn. About a 50%, maybe a 25% of teaching sould be training people how to learn things.
I have some forums friends that know me as Tei, and for some weird reason have figured out that the Tei on that forum is the Tei on/.
Do I have to use different nicknames? seems so. Internet with his worldwide design broadcast my life in a tiny spot of the internet to all spots. Maybe I sould use something less unique, theres something called TEI, so I am somewhat safe, but is not enough.
Everywhere you "deploy" your internet persona, you are reducing your privacy. Even if we use a combination of random characters on every post, I fear It will not be enough.
I am one of these jerks that has managed to google the whole life of a person using just the nickname. A tool for that is "unique expresions". People can change nickname, but not how talk... so if the dude use some colorist word or misspell, you can use that against him.
In a country with fair laws, since.h defines interfaces, and interfaces sould be ok-territory (it sould be OK to create a program with the same interface a different program, and make it exempt from any intelectual property law), then this snip is ok. If your country has horrible laws, and is against the law to have the saem interface (shocket).. but that would be stupid, Imagine if every electric machine use a different interface to take the electricity it need.
So, to me, this means nothing. Show me some.c, and we are walking.
You input is taken into account locally, so the screen can be updated after 10ms, heres your input latency. But this change is "fictional", since the information is on the internet, traveling to the server, so the server don't know (yet) that you have rotated the camera/jumped/stuff.
Wen you see "I am connected to a server, and I have 200 ping with this server", that is not input latency. You can have 10ms input latency with a server that give you 200 ping. Things are computed clientside. So this will be much less playable than your average 200ms server.
The ammount of wrong on the IE team is amazing. I am looking at the test, and I want to murder these dudes.
Canvas is not create to replace Flash, to create fullpages in canvas. This is a idiotic idea, and if some people run with it, we are trully fucked. Canvas is to enhance our hability to create webpages with things that nowdays are not possible. This is things like graphics of sales and useage dinamically written. Using canvas to create a page mutch like flash, adds nothing to the web, actually make it worse.
The IE team is the people with the worst ideas of the internet. Is a dangerous grupo of people, that seems activatelly tryiing to make the internet a bad location:-(
We are the good guys, China is the one that is oppressing his people, diseminating information about how to break the china firewall... all firewalls, adds freedom to this world.
And this may put people on jail, but we are not to blame, but a unjust system on china!.:-(
I have learned the hard way, that not everyone want full inmersion in his games. There are people just now, playing the "achievement metagame" and using Red Dead Redemtion for that. Or there are people just now, playing and chatting in Borderlands, playing the metagame of searching a shotgun with acid rockets. So, we all search different things in games, and only a subset of the gamers group want full inmersion.
All the console games have visible buttons that suposedly helps the player remenber that X reload the ammo of the gun, and things like that. On the pc we don't need to remenber that the key R do the Reload of the weapon. So theres like different needs for metainformation that break inmersion in different gamming areas. The consoles dudes need more metainformacion. There are PC games, like AvP where the alien just have a tiny bar on the bottom, nothing else is need to play as alien.
What "Part of the OS" means, and what are the effects?
Arguabilly, a perl distro is part of most Linux distros, since key parts of the distro are written in Perl. A "Perl-less" version of the distro is maybe possible, simply removing perl, and replacing all these parts by other modules that don't need it.
So something can be "part of the OS", and at the same type, can be replaced?
MSHTML.dll seems part of XP the same way a Hard-Disk is *not* part of the console XBox360. This is because all the XP have this DLL, and you are supposed to assume it exist. But some XBox360 consoles don't have a harddisk, so you can't asume your game can use a harddisk, so you have to program it to run from ROM in a optical mecanical device.
So..
I mostly think the article is wrong, and consoles suck.
HTTPS withouth a signed certificate can be compromised, but wen you browse the web on a open wife, or a promiscuous lan, maybe all you want is your trafic to be send encryped as oposed to clean text. So SSL withouth certificates (read: self signed) is usefull, and part of all these warnings are scare tactics to get people buying SSL certificates.
This is another step to the ultimate device for freeloaders: the universal compiler machine. Probably a "universal" compiler machine is imposible (other than atom-by-atom build?), but especialized machines are probabbly possible, and heres one. The best use for this type of technology is generate a colony of self-replicant robots near the dark side of the moon. I doubt it will be possible to build all the elements on the moon itself, but the more you can build there (and I can see how a origami structure can be usefull) the less you need to send using very expensive rockets.
The farmville players can be intelligent people, but for gaming have a simplictic blurry oriented option, that the gamers need to understand and respect.
And the devs make the right decision fixing a bug that affect a lot of users.
Teenages are a dificult people because need to explore how fit on the world. Countrys are somewhat like that, because has to fit in the world. Lets look at the japanese, for a success story, from the medieval ages to industrial ones, really quickly. A country with not natural resources, but a powerfull industry. Other countrys rich in resources are poor. Countrys like Irak are poor in a way, even with the oil.
The UK not invented the videogames, but is a area where the UK culture can kick in, and be amazing. So UK is usefull to the world, and videogames are part of it. So videogames are more important for UK that what we see nowdays.
Of course, the Americans will build giganteous industries, and will bully everyone outside of the area. Maybe you have to fight that, if you want something to do in life. Leting the americans suck another industry away for thenselves, is bad for USA, is bad for UK and is bad for the world. "Blockbusters" could be a good industrial thing, but is poor enteirnament. Good production values are a nice thing to have, but what about soul? what about deep? what about FUN?. Blockbuster games are (in a way) like Soviet era buildings: devoid of life.
So UK, please, fight this battle, preserve your cultural significance here in the videogame world.
The porn sites don't want it, the anti-porn sites don't want it. Is not usefull for the purpose of a root domain. It will only serve to suck money from some sites that will register yet another domain and not use it.
The ICANN is adding weigth on the idea to deprecate the ICANN.
We laught wen corporations waste butloads of money on stupid DRM schemes that never work and are cracked in hours, so only punish the people that pay for the gods.
Imagine this again, but the money wasted is from your taxes, and the people that is punished is everyone that lives inside USA.

No, I exactly mean what is written.

Lag with any "mouse" cursor is horrible, so all strategy or table games that need a cursor will be painfull to play with this.
