I co-maintain Gnome Games and decided to do a review of KDE 4 RC 1 yesterday. I posted it on my blog.

KDE 4.0 RC 1 Released
·
· Score: 1
(Btw, diehard KDE fan here --I'm not even considering GNOME until they start having user-configurable key shortcuts. Waiting for KDE4 final release in December to be worked into Gutsy so I can put it on my Came-With-Ubuntu laptop.)
Gnome's platform has had control-panel accessible Keyboard Shortcut applet since at least Gnome 2.8. Individual Gnome apps choose to let you do keyboard shortcuts just like any other application. Gnome Terminal, for example, lets you change keyboard shortcuts since Gnome 2.10. You don't have to bash the competition mindlessly to prove that you're opinion is more valid. If you have something valuable to say (and you do!), let it stand on its own. I know this is Slashdot and mob mentality rules, but really, let's be authentic about our experiences for the sake of progress.
Actually Miguel completely and utterly obliterates your argument in his latest blog post about Java. In short, FOSS has been slow to implement it because a free as in beer version has always been available. This is the same reason that the FOSS implementation of a Flash Player is so far behind.
.NET on the other had absolution NO implementation on Linux. So they got both types of FOSS contributors: those who just want some version of it on Linux and those who what it Free (as in speech).
Border Collie Systems produces a Linux-based IP camera DVR system. It uses Apache Tomcat to power a web-based interface. Client-side Javascript is used to display up to 4 cameras on a single web page. My father is in the security business and has installed a few of these for some colleges. So far they have performed quite well. Check them out.
Okay, I'm starting to suspect that you are blinded by your ideology but I'll spell it out for you just in case you really are this nieve about this subject.
The 'certification under oath' that a person is an 'agent of a foreign power' does NOT unmake someone an American. Just as a person can hold citizenship in a myriad of countries at the same time, the Attorney General waving his hand and declaring that someone is an 'agent of a foreign power' doesn't suddenly undo your constitutionally given rights. Although that would be convenient, wouldn't it? Subsection (a) is irrelevant with regard to U.S. Citizens.
As to your second point. I already addressed former President's actions (which you ignored). And again I'll accuse you of responding like a toddler. You cannot use "He did it too!" to excuse this disgusting illegal behavior.
You glossed over the most important part of the section you quoted:
(B) there is no substantial likelihood that the surveillance will acquire the contents of any communication to which a United States person is a party; and
Are you so blinded by your ideology that you do not see? This is the most frightening thing that our government has done in recent history. There is nothing worse than throwing out our American due process. It's the very foundation of our system of justice. We cannot be America without it.
What you say is not true. The 1978 law making this illegal didn't come until after the Carter administration. Raegan tried to authorize such actions but the courts reined them in during his administration. Neither the first President Bush nor Clinton authorized such wiretaps. Clinton's administration (wrongly) argued before Congress in 1992 that they should have that authority but Congress (correctly) did not agree and thus they never conducted these warrentless searches.
Secondly, your post is the most childish 2-year-old-ish piece of bullshit I've heard in quite a while. "But he did it tooooo!" is not an excuse for breaking the law no matter how much you like his political party. The 1978 FISA law is 100% clear on the legality of these actions; the President decided that the law didn't apply to him. There is NOTHING less American. We are nothing if we are not a nation of laws. To spit on our system of government and declare one's self higher than it is the most disgraceful thing a President can do.
when clicking on a link in an email, the MIME type is checked BEFORE deciding which application to launch
identities (Work, Home, etc.) are kept separate from incoming and outgoing server profiles; this means that one can send mail as any identity regardless of the physical location of your laptop
very complete GPG/MIME support and integration with KGPG
when writing an email, if the word attach appears in the email, it will warn you if you didn't attach anything before you send it
the email viewer has an *AWESOME* email structure viewer... you can see all the different pieces of how the email was assembled right next to your attachments
a robust filtering system that, as of KDE 3.5, supports filtering in to IMAP folders
complete integration with KAddressbook, KCalendar, todo lists, etc. (All can be embedded in Kontact)
and last but not least it's STABLE... I've had so much trouble with the other two clients mentioned crashing and destroying data... in KMail all the data is stored in Maildir's plain text format and is accelerated by index files which allow for fast lookups and operations; even KAddressbook uses VCards to store the data... this makes me feel much safer about my data
The President admitted this morning that has has authorized this 30 times; every last part of the NYT story has turned out to be true. I don't forsee such a retraction in your future...
Verbatim's DataLifePlus brand/usually/ means that the disc is rated for a 100 year shelf life with a scratch resistant plastic. Also note that their DVD brand will have an even greater life span due to the fact that the film on a DVD disc is sandwhiched between two layers of plastic. On a CD, the film is exposed to the air.
The discs are also inexpensive. You can pick them up from places like Provantage for under 75 cents each in spindles.
I highly recommend any of the iAudio series of portable players -- they advertise Linux and Mac OSX support. The hard drive players even have FLAC support. I have an iAudio G3 and I love it and use it for recording from Line-In microphones.
On CBR, I think you have it backwards; the big bang theory suggests certain kinds of CBR which have been observed now that the technology exists. We didn't observe the different kinds of CBR first and then come up with the big bang as a possible explanation. This lends credence to the theory but of course doesn't prove it.
And on 'proving nothing' you are not getting it... we're not out to/prove/ anything. We seek only to/disprove/ people's wild ideas. If we can test them and can't disprove them then they are considered not-so-wild. And with time, perhaps accepted as a theory. Science has nothing to say, currently, about what might have happened "before" the big bang (if indeed time itself even existed). So, yes, you must turn to theology or philosophy to answer such questions. But that's not the domain of science. The point is that no faith is required to say that 'the big bang is currently the strongest theory on what the "first" event in our universe was'. I don't think anyone is saying that they are 100% certain.
And on baryonic asymmetry, we're at the very fringes of my knowledge but I don't think it really matters. All I remember on it is that the theory not being able to account for this doesn't disprove it; it's just means the the theory will need some enhancing once we understand baryonic asymmetry more fully. If I recall correctly, the super-collider being built in France is designed to help in this area.
I don't really have anything to say about the rest of the stuff. It would be a complicated philosophical discussion about the nature of reality and whether or not you are a supernaturalist at all if you believe in intelligent lifeforms living on other branes manipulating our reality...
If they were listening/reading right now, I would want them to know that they are some arrogant fucks and they certainly don't deserve any worship, I'd take freedom instead...
I'm not an astrophysicist but that's just flat-out wrong. The big-bang theory IS a verifiable theory. That's why why have astronomers staring at the cosmic background radiation and analyzing the motion of stars (which shows that the universe is expanding). As far as I know, most all cosmic observations have given credibility to the big-bang theory. And it will continue to be tested. If there's ever some falsifying data, then the theory is destroyed. Plain and simple.
I guess the subtle art of irony and sarcasm isn't as easily understood by the average reader these days... Did you really think that someone attacking someone for attacking the credibility of the source would turn around and do the same in the same breath? If so, I have a bridge I'd like to sell you... Have a little sense of humor, please.
No. Only the JDBC driver from Java is used to provide database connectivity. Also, part of the forms wizard in 2.0 is written in Java. Everything else is C/C++.
I can't believe this got modded +5; moderators, shame on you. This post is the oldest logical fallacy in the book: Argumentum ad Hominem. Rather than attacking the source, you're supposed to attack the argument! And quite frankly, the tests look rock solid and statistically accurate. If you can't raise the level of the argument, just don't say anything at all. You make the rest of us look bad.
Apparently you're not reading the posts you're replying to. Both of the posts you replied to clearly stated that there is a JAVA APPLET which is used to view these streams -- no software installation required. It takes less than 5 seconds to load up on my system....
Or you can pick the 100% one which is MPEG4 Part 3. Works in Windows, OS X and Linux guaranteed. Sure, not as great as Part 10 or WMP or even XviD... but if it works, it works.
The point is that _every_ copy of Linux has ffmpeg and therefore is compatible with Quicktime's streaming server... and compatible with VLC for that matter. Only those users with the knowledge of how to go find these codecs and install them are going to be able to view WMV.... and now, WMV is not better than MPEG4 Part 10.

The K3b equivalent in Gnome is called Brasero. Try it.
For ripping, Sound Juicer.
As far as Evince complaints, it's the only PDF viewer with PDF Forms support so that seems pretty featureful to me.

Oh how I wish my mod points hadn't expired this morning. Bravo!
