Hi there,
This topic was announced a lot of time ago, and at least in Germany, nobody cares about. This topic is over. There was just one crazy politician (Schäuble), that thought doing this USA kind of thing would be great, but I think that he just killed his politician career. An even if the BND (like the CIA in the USA, but they arent evil:) ) is already watching me, I really don't care. Because no Police men has nocked on my door so far:)
As somebody of the CCC (Chaos Computer Club) told to the Spiegel some time ago, this is not even Pratical. If they really want to tap a PC of someone effectively, they will fail at least at the cost of such a operation. It is just nonsense.
Best Regards,
mjander
... where will we end up ? If products cost less, who is producing that product will get less money, and won't be able to buy... A vicious cycle, a spiral into chaos.
Services and Products just cost what they have to, and if soemone can't pay for that, then i'm just sorry for that !! Whats the point of making things cheaper, if they really are not ?? Lowering quality ? No thanks ! I would prefer keep my old box than buying junk.
Some years ago, my brother and a friend build a table like game with LEGO. The board was very big, and had some "mechanical" features that made it specially funny. Only the cards needed by the game had to be made by hand, but the most important matter was fun of course. Indeed we enjoyed it very much for several weeks, but finally, like any LEGO things you build, they get disassembled.
Amateur OS ? You surely never have used Linux:D
About faster CPU, what can i say... I thought the same as you until i benchmarket a Apple XServer against a DELL PowerEdge 1650. The Apple... no chance. The i386 ruled at everything, even if i disliked very much the idea. How should i explain to my boss that those expensive XServer where crap ??. The only exciting stuff about th MAC: the user interface, but who cares about that in a Rack mount server ? Go advertising elsewhere.

As someone who has participated in the development of a linux audio driver, and now i'm trying get it ported it to windows, writing drivers for linux is much easier than on windows.
-At first, there "are" linux developer competent enough. There are many willing to help, and stuff gets done.
-I still don't know anyone around me who is capable of writing a WDM driver, but i know quite a bunch of people who are writing kernel drivers all the time.
I guess, we linux (or BSD or what you like) developer should better write a Windows linux driver loader, so hardware makers can release linux only drivers.
I have seen a lot of trash and litter being told "IT", but its just useless junk.
There are many thinks that are being complicated more than they really are using IT.
Example: The Class sign in system here at UTFSM. Every year its worst. To signin to a class is a real nightmare, and your treated like shit (you have no right to... you are entirely responsible of your (our)... )
Before it was done using plain paper and hell, it was lots easier to get your classes signed in.
The guys who developed that system really didn't know a thing about Software Ingeniering.
I really miss those old paper days...
Maybe its just a process of natural selection (Darwin like aproach ?)

CodeWarrior DSP56800 C compiler...

The docs say:
"#pragma interrupt for C." You no longer need to write you ISR's in assembler. This #pragma will tell the compiler to save all registers it used as well as emitting an RTI in the epilog.
Sounds great, but the truth is:
It still doesn't save those damn registers...
Local variables are completely corrupted in an ISR...
By the way, this C compiler isn't compatible with GCC. I think i would go better with Analog Devices. At least with their GCC port it shouldn't be so hard to port something done in a *NIX enviroment.

I would never download a software if i have to register it. Indeed, i never do so, even if i payd for it. I'm receiving more that enough SPAM by now. I don't even register to read Newspapers online which sometimes are linked to slashdot articles. Thats to anoying. Why should i do such stupidity ?? Why passwords if in the end anything is crackable ???!!
...and usually commercial software have the most anying bugs. If some Open Software has a bug, most probably next week its fixed. Then i do apt-get install... On commercial Software you have to pay for a fix. What a robbery ! I prefer to stay with Open Software, and try to contribute as much i can.
I'm not a very brilliant coder, but i have played
with Microsoft VB, MSVC++, Borland Delhpi, Borland C++ Builder, and at last on linux, using GCC, Glade and Anjuta.
Conclusion: Microsoft Tools are shit worth. They arent easy to use. In a early beginning they may be, but when the code starts growing, it gets very hard to maintain it.
The best experience, regarding productivity,i got with Borland C++ Builder. Delphi is quiet good too.
Personally i feel more confortable with the latter (GCC + Anjuta + Glade), but that wouldnt be and option for Windows (l)users.
bye.
It really surprises me that they decided to use RPM package format. It surprised me even more that they decided to create "Yet another package system", while there are many very stable and advanced one, that are just waiting to being ported to "Yet another Unix".
My personal experience is
RPM = headache.
APT = a lot of relieve.
