After the 2006 election, Nancy Pelosi's first action as Speaker of the House was to take impeachment off the table. Why would she do that when the vast majority of the Democratic base clearly wanted it?

You are missing an obvious possibility - that despite their rhetoric, the democrats in congress *knew* there was no basis for impeachment (they are after all privy to classified intelligence briefings and many know much more about this government's surveillance techniques than the population at large). Of course, these accusations have been a political windfall for the democrats so you aren't going to hear *say* that these claims have no merit. They'll just do nothing and have it both ways.

The night of the election in '06, Polosi declared that 'Impeachment is off the table'. Why? Well it's because they knew what the Administration was doing and did nothing about it.

Or... maybe they knew all along that nothing the administration was doing was illegal but didn't want to say so because accusing the administration of such crimes was good politics (for them). I disagree that we will know anything more next admin than we know now. One could make the argument that if a Repub wins he would cover up to protect the reputation of his party (assuming the left's allegations are true), and if the Dem wins (and there was nothing illegal) I doubt he would release any info that would "exonerate" this administration.

    - Hi... I'll am seeking a nomination from you and here is what I have done to earn it.

    Worked for me...

Also, the whole nomination process is pretty misunderstood. It is just a nomination - you still have to get an appointment (read: accepted). Each representative can pass on 10 names for each vacancy (and each rep can have five constituents at each academy at any one time). If you think about it, there are 435 representatives , 50 senators and a handful of presidential and vp nominations or about 500 nomination "sources". Since each class usually has around 1000 students (at each academy) that means that on average each nominating source only has 2 of their vacancies filled so on average they can forward 30 names to each academy each year.

The real reason why cell phones are banned on planes has nothing to do with their interference with a planes navigation system.

And you base this statement on what exactly? I'm a test pilot and I am sick of hearing these erroneous arguments every time this subject comes up. Every time we put a new piece of gear in a plane, we have to go through about 3-4 weeks of EMI testing to verify that the new addition doesn't interfere with the electronics of the aircraft. Guess what... the guys in the E3 lab always find some detectable change. The chance of that device causing a fatal mishap is low... but what happens when you multiply that by hundreds or thousands? These devices are *not* tested in aircraft - it would be prohibitively expensive to test every mp3 player, cell phone and wireless modem with every aircraft configuration. Have you ever been on a telecon with someone that has a blackberry too close to a mic? Do you really want that interference stepping on a pilot's voice comm with ATC and establishing an incorrect altitude or having missing a TCAS call?

In the end, none of the senators was charged with any crime, although McCain was rebuked by the Senate Ethics Committee for exercising "poor judgment" in intervening with the federal regulators on Keating's behalf.[27] Robert S. Bennett, who was the special investigator during the scandal, said that he fully investigated McCain back then and suggested to the Senate Ethics Committee to not pursue charges against McCain. Bennett, a Democrat who would represent McCain in the future for another matter, wrote years later in his autobiography that it was his opinion that McCain was not dismissed from the case because without him, the investigation would have solely been against Democrats.[28]

Keep in mind that at the time of the investigation Democrats had majorities in both houses of congress and the other "four" of the Keating 5 were Democrats.
