Doesn't seem to be much of a problem in the RC aircraft world. I think it would be less of a problem in this case, as they can easily inform whoever needs to know.

Why not simply shoot the drone from the ground, then? No need to bother with RC helis, as fun as that sounds. Also, I think if that did become a problem, it wouldn't be too long before they simply use an RF jammer, and you're screwed, unless you turn your RC heli into an automated drone, too, which isn't that easy at the moment.

  3. Re:Is it just me? on Aerial Drones To Help Cops In Miami · · Score: 1

Yeah, because a big helicopter is much safer than a small drone. There is no reason that RC aircraft can't be made/maintained to the same standards as normal aircraft and still be insanely cheaper, more reliable (less parts), and safer (less mass and no pilot to worry about). I'd be much more worried about driving to work etc.

And it makes sense from a cognitive psychological point of view: Apple is associated with creativity more than IBM, so seeing it is more likely to increase one's creative mood, even if it is only slight. They've done scientific tests where people reacted with increased dopamine levels simply after seeing a Coke commercial. How is this any different?

The main reason you no longer by Apple products is because of people commenting on your blog and the behavior of other Apple users? Also, sane people generally go more unnoticed than the nutters -- there are plenty of sane (and probably some insane) Mac users who have no desire to make sure that everyone knows they use a Mac.

I've done a graphic design and a multimedia course at a Mac-only campus, and I agree. Most of the Apple "fans" I know like Apple because they like the product and don't really have much fanatic loyalty or think twice about pointing out the occasional gripes they have with Apple.

The thing is, even I post a lot of Apple-defensive comments. But it's mainly because I can't stand it when I see someone using a poor argument (because there sure are a lot of idiots out there, as well as people with genuine gripes), so I probably get dumped in the same boat as the rabid Apple fan.

That's me. I've also had other interests besides IT, such as graphic design. These days there is often little need for many people in IT to need to know the basics of all areas within IT or its legacy. I'm not so sure it explains some of the problems, as when people get good in one area, they also become aware of their deficiencies in other areas, so I think it can be put it back to a more general ability to understand -- I.E. people who aren't very good at their current area might contribute in that way to some of the problems in IT.

Not necessarily. That timeline seems right. I didn't have USB drives when I was a kid and I was just starting to hear about the internet. A floppy disk is some old relic that was around before I even got here. When I see one and think about them, it's more like "people used to put up with this?" rather than "I remember having to work with these" as we're talking about the workplace. Before I actually worked with computers, they were just another toy to pull apart and learn from -- my mindset and reason for using them, among other things, was quite different back then.

The Dalai Lama has admitted that Tibet hasn't been under perfect rule throughout history, but at least he admits it. And I have never seen anything to suggest he is against democracy -- just the opposite. You're taking about a country that is more than 50 years old, BTW. And even so, it is not acceptable to invade a country with arms, assume control, and meddle with their religious affairs by killing and torturing monks and any other people who question the situation.

The Dalai Lama has said that independence isn't even his main goal. All he wants is autonomy so that he and other Tibetans can practice their religion.

How about you read something about this issue that wasn't cooked up by the PRC?

From what I've read, the PRC has even gone as far as trying to install their own "Lama" into the Dalai Lama's linage, something to the equivalent of a foreign country trying to plant a non-Catholic in as The Pope.

And why do you think that people who care about Tibet don't care about other issues? After all, this is the internet, where it's easy to talk about non-local issues. Perhaps it's because the meddling seems more obvious in Tibet. Either way, I don't think it's wise to assume people only care about Tibet just going by what you read on the internet.
