Okay cool now we've got raytracing with FPGA's! But how useful is that to most of the geeks out there?
Why don't they use FPGA's to accelerate linux in hardware.
Maybe reprogram some of commonly used subroutines.
Or does that already exists?
I think it's important not to make assumptions, specially when it comes to issues like teraforming Mars or something like uninformed guesstimation of the destructive power of nuclear weapons. Which is why we should investigate Mars before we try teraforming it. Of course there are limits to how much you can wait and to what extent you should study something before you can make an educated assumption. I personally doubt that there is any life on mars... But that's an uneducated guess.
Of course nothing is stopping us from teraforming some places on earth we already fucked up... Chernobyl? Sudbury?(which looks like the surface of the moon thanks to all the pollution), Bhopal?
This will have a huge effect on the long term and will cause Microsoft to think twice before monopolizing the market.
If there is another time I wonder how much it will be $5bn? 10? who knows.
Why did they use VIA chips for a cluster? I doesn't seem like a good choice considering the whole point is performance.
IBT (link:www.ibt.ca) sells 533FSB P4 boards in mini-ITX form factor! They also sell 800FSB P4 boards with ISA slots for some reason? It's kind of cool if you got some old hardware lying around.
This investment probably has to do with Europeans wanting Independence from the American market. This means that most military equipment will probably use AMD processors from now on.
I hope Linux makes it before 5 to 10 years. But before that happens there has to be a major change in the OS's Interface ! KDE is getting nicer yes but not that much better in terms of simplicity, for example changing resolution can be a complicated task in most distributions, X doesn't revert to VESA mode when the driver fails, the names for the utilities are complicated for nothing, konqueror? Kcalc?
If you compare to an other OS such as Windows or MacOS X, they all use simple names for simple applications such as notepad, calculator etc...
RPM's don't self-install when clicked on just look at Windows ! Look at the way Windows manages drivers from the user perspective. Why is it that we still have to type./configure;make;make install ? There's a lot of things that have to be worked out before Linux evolves into a mainstream or even the mainstream OS. Linux isn't evolving that much recently on the other hand Microsoft is taking all the good idea and putting them in their OS.
Honestly i've never seen an American city misspelled in a Canadian Article. Not that I am saying it has never been done. But just to point it out. And it's not like it's some little town... It's the capital and there's also an Ottawa in the United States.
Alright thats enough ! I live in Canada's Capital Ottawa... And I am getting tired of people calling it Ottowa !!!!!!! grrr ! Do you see me saying Wachingtin or Nu iork...
My problem in life is being lazy i always feel tiered and unmotivated due to the fact im tiered ! Does this mean im going to become 1000% more productive well from what it sounds like yes !!!!!! nice !!! I dont care if it makes me grow horns this really amazing ! a cure for lazyness ! woah imagine that America 1000% more efficient then is is today!!!
I have an old IBM mainframe in my room sounds like a turbo jet engine starting up. And the Xeon's dont help cause i have 19" rackmount fans... Im used to the noise but im unable to talk on the phone... And I find the noise rather loud... Anyone have a suggestion for any perticular device ? because I have no idea where to get these so called noise reduction devices...
Well what the goverment should do instead of fighting Microsoft is simply vote a law that says they will no longer protect products under Copyright laws that violate our laws... And since most of the stuff is stolen anyways on top of being a total monopoly I dont see how this would be wrong. And as is mentioned else where.. Windows IS!!!!!!!!! Modular !! and can work without IE , Explorer , Media Player etc... Look at Windows XP Embedded..!
In Other words violate Anti-Trust laws ! and your product becomes free...
Well what the goverment should do instead of fighting Microsoft is simply say they will no longer protect Microsoft under Copyright laws (violate our laws and the laws dont proctect you)... That will keep them quiet... And since most of the stuff is stolen anyways I dont see how this would be wrong.
You fail to realize that this is about getting ready for the future... 1ms is not very practical right now but in the future I when we start to use the potential of 64 bits we might realize that using 192bit or 256bit wasnt such bad idea after all... plus with 256bits we wouldn't have to worry about changing anything for a hell of a long time... We would be alright for at least 25 years in worst case senario...
Okay everyone knows x86 MacOS X is just not going to happen right? the reasons are obvious... that means no more support for MS Office on the MacOS X platform and it also means Apple wont be making alot of sales with their hardware... Anyways lets say they did this... Well just look at a very similar example... Solaris 8 is going to be discontinued for the x86 in future versions this shows this isn't a good solution at all for Apple... however i dont think all hopes are lost as far as seeing MacOS X on PC's, what apple should try is a IA64 versions of their OS rather then attacking Microsoft directly which would result in failure. The current performance of IA64 platforms with old x86 code which in most cases used is what is used makes the platform weak with current windows applications and perhaps this is where apple should come in since we are all eventually going to be converted to IA64 platforms anyways... Right now Apple would have an advantage beacause IA32 is a longer way to IA64 then PPC is to IA64... Making very easy to port... Also note that IA64 isn't as hard to support as the x86 architecture... It would be a safe attempt to break into the PC market without destroying their current strategy...
Apple shouldn't port their OS to x86 platforms we all know what Sun had to do recently because of Solaris 8, Besides Microsoft would hate it a probably stop making Office for MacOS on the other hand Apple could try to go in the IA64 market theres alot less competition there and PC will eventually all be IA64 in the long run... It would be a way to slowly infiltrate the market without taking any risks, driver support would be minimal, and apple could retract their support for it at any time if it turned out to be a failure... Because right now IA64 platforms perform bellow expectations in comparison with their capabilities. Plus is a 64bit chip im sure that will help alot as far as porting goes...

And I suppose all Microsoft code is made in the US? Maybe it's a better idea to stick with OpenSource at least you can see the source!

This will support any 533FSB cpu and it's an ITX! http://www.ibt.ca/mb850.htm

And how exactly do you update ? turn on a UV light?
And they said I was out of context for talking about spelling mistakes.

It is a mistake. I know it's besides the point. But I rather point it out to make sure no one picks it up as being correct.
