When the NEThics office gets a tip that a computer-savvy student has been doing something he or she shouldn't -- like hacking into a company's computer system, or downloading MP3s illegally,...
If they were really that concerned about MP3's being downloaded 'illegally', they could do something about it. Sounds like a story someone wrote in boredom.
Any program or station that starts crap like commercials inside the program is going to kiss my viewership goodbye. I don't care what program or network or sport it is.
Think with your heads, television industry.
Why the hell should the rest of us suffer for what you see as a threat, by a small percentage of users? Eat me.
Thanks so much guys. I started out over a year ago using the binaries for linux. Then I started grabbing source code. Then I started grabbing source off of cvs, for both 1.0.0+ and 1.0rcX.
Absoloutly fantastic product people, keep it up. Now that the API is frozen, it's going to be very interesting watching all the nifty tools roll out.
In fairness, there are people out there who end up in charge of systems that don't have the time, inclination, or experience to install patches, upgrades, updates, etc. The people who did the default install and left it at that.
These 'admins' are one of the biggest problems out there. It's my strong belief that doing just those things you listed are critical parts of being an admin. If you can't or won't do them (perfect world or not), DON'T ADMIN.
Because more and more sites are being written with on ly one standard in mind - the IE standard
Definately true. Definately sad. But that's okay, it helps me filter out sites who are serious about web design and sticking to standards. They certainly won't get my business.
IE isn't a product that people pay for, so even if the IE monopoly was broken, it wouldn't have any effect on the MS monopoly.
I disagree there. I don't care how many times MS says IE is 'free', I guarantee you part of what people are shelling out for windows every few years goes into IE.
Besides if you are so digusted with the commercialization of software, shouldn't you feel the same way about the hardware? Maybe you should stop using computers then if it disgusts you so much.
Computers didn't start out free.
If you don't like it then deal with it and don't whine
What's wrong with you people? If we wanted a Windows clone we would be using Windows, wouldn't we?
Nice to see someone else out there thinks as I do. Very nice.
Nowadays all we hear about is KDE/GNOME, Redhat/Caldera, etc. and their right to charge for Linux.
Damn right. I talk to linux users all day who don't know how to do jack shit, because they never learned the command line.
I've been disheartened by the linux world since commercial interests started stepping in. Avoiding such crap was my #1 reason for dropping windows in the first place.
I don't have flash, so i used the html version. Searched for "linux" and it came up, said results 1-10. But there was nothing displayed. moved my mouse around and i got an incredible ammount of annoying ass javascript error boxes, an endless stream of one after another. Couldn't get to X to close the tab, couldn't close mozilla the proper way, had to kill it.
Bad first impression.
Frankly I think it should have warned me about needing javascript or similar stupid shit. I wouldn't have bothered.

I stopped reading the article there.

True. That's why only a tiny percentage of what I do is admin MS networks.

Open source rocks.
Your rant? By that formatting, it sure looks like you ripped off someone else by copying and pasting it.

...are belong to us now!
It's right there in the article.
.... expectations heh.
What, slashdot users read an article? Shame on you for having such...
Thanks!
But i'm not extremeist enough (as you are) to think of those other conspiracies.
Darn.
Gee, big surprise?
Christ, I wish money never would have gotten tangled with linux. And no, I don't give a shit what paid people have contributed.

There is an amateur radio band between 902 and I think 908 MHz, the 33cM band. Certainly not ungregulated.
I still don't agree. I think its in the cost of the computer, regardless if they say so or not.
As far as passing copies on, you're right.

Well said, I wanted to say it myself but there you have it.
Thanks.

Guess things changed. my bad.

Preach on.
When I go to try, i get:
Sorry, this Module isn't active!
Moderators: do me a favor and don't mod me down for reduntant in case this has been said already, just leave it at 1.
... That is, if you like owning two (or more) different cd players/drives to play shit.
Suuure.
