Our higher education system rocks the world over
Based on what data do make that conclusion?
Basically anyone who has anything to say about quality of University level education will say the US leads far and away in number and quality.
A recent Newsweek ranking showed that 80% of the world's Top Ten universities were American and over half the top 50 were American. The Times Higher Education Supplement, arguably one of the world's most respected education comparisons of universities from all around the globe, listed 13 American universities in the Top 20, including 6 in the Top 10. The quality of American university education is second to none.
Where would the increase in public funding for higher education come from? You would be cutting athletics and merchandising income and replacing that with public funds as well...
The current system might not be the best, but a ton of money gets put into the system as it is.
I have been purchasing more and more live music DVDs over the past two years, I guess.
I think its a much better value when you get atleast 2hrs of video for $20-25.
The Led Zeppelin How The West Was Won DVD is $23 on amazon and is over 5hrs of video. Thats a much better value that just an audio CD imo.
I read an article on Ars earlier that details a hidden power grab by the Department of Homeland Security:
H.R. 418 [the Real ID Act of 2005] would provide additional waiver authority over laws that might impede the expeditious construction of barriers and roads along the border. H.R. 418 would require the Secretary of Homeland Security to waive any and all laws that he determines necessary, in his sole discretion, to ensure the expeditious construction of barriers and roads under IIRIRA 102...
Section 102 of H.R. 418 would amend the current provision to require the Secretary of Homeland Security to waive any law upon determining that a waiver is necessary for the expeditious construction of the border barriers. Additionally, it would prohibit judicial review of a waiver decision or action by the Secretary and bar judicially ordered compensation or injunction or other remedy for damages alleged to result from any such decision or action.
Apparently Article 3, Section 2, Clause 2 of the Constitution states:
In all Cases affecting Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, and those in which a State shall be Party, the supreme Court shall have original Jurisdiction. In all the other Cases before mentioned, the supreme Court shall have appellate Jurisdiction, both as to Law and Fact, with such Exceptions, and under such Regulations as the Congress shall make.
The key here is "...the supreme Court shall have appellate Jurisdiction...with such Exceptions, and under such Regulations as the Congress shall make."
So...it seems the Supreme Court can only rule and judge on things the Congress doesnt Exempt from them. This may be only a start to a situation where 'activist judges' are preempted by congressional exclusions and regulations preventing them from making decisions on a number of things Republicans, in particular, dont want Judges ruling on. In addition, the Congress could make a blanket statement, 'thou shalt not rule on gays, abortion, or guns' and be done...who knows what may happen in a republican controled Congress.
If you erased your video tapes every night, or after someone of interst was in your establishment, there would be no problem with doing that at all. If you log all services to/dev/null there is no problem with that either.
Destroying those tapes or logs after you are served with a subpeana for those items would be considered destruction of evidence, and obstruction of justice.
Any evidence is no different from any other evidence...one must only be smart about what one does, and think ahead.
Various radio shows hosted by Emmanuel Goldstein (Eric Corley) such as Brain Damage, Off The Wall, and Off The Hook are online in mp3 format at 2600.com.
Some of these shows go back to 1988, and provide hundreds of hours of listening pleasure, covering a variety of topics ranging from current political events, and technical issues such as the NYC MetroCard magnetic strip hacking, to funnier stuff like Confuse the Opperator where in one eppisode Emmanual tries to get the country code to Myanmar just after it changed its name from Burma.
The online mp3s are only 16kbps but you can buy higher quality ones that were recorded directly from the sound board; and by doing so you help support the show. =)
Another good option could be The Linux Link Tech Show which has high quality mp3s available www.attllts.info. They have a number of very good interviews with people in the FOSS community as well as technical discussions.
In addition to those www.compbeat.com/othershows.htm has a huge listing of online radio shows that one can listen to, some of which have online archives of past shows.
I can see this being easily defeated, just wrap the device in tin foil.
Before you leave your house, wrap the device in foil, go about your business, and unwrap it when you get back home. They will never know you left you home, and cant prove you did anything wrong.
Would be great if this version came without Internet Explorer installed. I guess that the EU case didn't have problems with a browser being installed and integrated, even more so than the media player, and so MS doesn't remove that as well
Apparently there are 3rd party tools that allow one to uninstall IE from 98/2k/XP, but it would be great to have a version from MS like that. Security would be greatly increased to boot.
Today many people are putting LCDs in the headrests of their cars, and things like that. Most have composite, and some s-video inputs, that would allow you to connect to a video card with TV-out.
I haven't found any small screens with VGA input, but I didn't google too much for them.
Your best bet would be to look into the car video monitors. These displays come in sizes from 5-9 inches(and larger), and range in price from $150-$500.
With OnDemand comming into service from Time Warner Cable, you can watch a lot of shows, and also news broadcasts that are on tv at any time. You can also watch a ton of movies at any time you would like to. If the ammount of Tv shows and movies available is expanded to include all tv shows and on for the past week or two, that would be the pinicle. Then all television content would be OnDemand via remote controle at any time. I would think that this tis Time Warners gole, if it isnt, it should be. Of course there are licensing issues that have to be delt with, and i have no idea how that would break this down.
